Elyndor: eyes of the unseen

The Pawn Game

The Pawn Game

Mar 03, 2026

Power is not given in Elyndor… it is tested.
The morning sun stretched across the vast training grounds of the Thornvyl Central Camp.
Three young figures stood before a wooden house at the edge of the field.
This was their new beginning.
Inside the house, a man was waiting.
He had untidy white furry hair, sharp eyes that seemed to observe everything, and an expression that looked… bored with the world.
He leaned slightly against a table, arms crossed.
When the trio entered, he glanced at them for a moment.
Then he spoke.
Master:
So… you are Team 111.
The trio stood straight.
Master:
My name is Valen .
And from what I’ve heard about you three…
you seem interesting.
But remember this—
His eyes sharpened.
Valen:
From today… your training begins.

Listen carefully. Strength is not something you are born with. It is forged… hammered in the fires of effort, patience, and sacrifice.

He paced slowly in front of Team 111, each step measured.

Valen:
Every challenge you face, every failure you endure… these are not punishments. They are opportunities. Opportunities to sharpen your mind, your body, your spirit.

He stopped and looked each of them in the eye.

Days turned into weeks.
Weeks turned into months.
And the training began shaping them.
They ran across endless grounds until their legs burned.
They practiced sword strikes again and again until their hands trembled.
They climbed tall trees, learning balance and agility.
They punched the air until their bodies moved faster than thought.
They learned to ride horses across rough terrain.
And through all of it—
Valen was always watching.
Sometimes correcting.
Sometimes silent.
Sometimes pushing them beyond their limits.
Slowly…
The trio began to evolve.
Not as children anymore.
But as warriors.
Several Years Later
A chariot moved through a vast golden field.
The wind brushed past the grass like waves in an ocean.
Inside the chariot, three teenagers sat together.
They had grown.
Stronger.
Sharper.
Older.
Vihaan now looked calm and confident.
Eryx had developed a powerful muscular frame.
And Liorin carried the same sharp intelligence, now matured with discipline.
A voice echoed inside the chariot.
Voice:
Hundreds of years ago… Elyndor was united.
Everyone had the same eye color—black.
The trio listened quietly.
Voice:
But one day… a man searching for power climbed Mount Vaeloris.
When he returned… his eyes had turned white.
Eryx leaned back.
Voice:
That man founded the first tribe—Aeralith.
And passed his power to his people.
Voice:
Soon, he began ruling Elyndor.
But his rule was cruel and discriminative.
The chariot continued moving.
Voice:
So people searched for other sources of power…
forming three new tribes.
Vihaan closed the history book in his hand.
Vihaan:
That’s enough history for today.
Liorin looked at Eryx.
Liorin:
Me and Vihaan will pass the exam easily.
But if you fail… and our team gets rejected because of you…
His voice became cold.
Liorin:
I will not spare you.
Eryx stared at him for a moment.
Then smiled confidently.
Eryx:
Relax.
Worst case… I’ll just pass by accident.
Vihaan sighed.
The chariot stopped before a large wooden building.
The trio entered.
Inside, rows of benches were aligned neatly.
Pens, blank papers, and question sheets were placed on every desk.
Dozens of students were quietly writing.
But something felt strange.
There was no examiner.
Only a notice written on the wall.
"You are being watched."
Eryx gulped.
He walked toward his seat and sat down.
The exam began.
Vihaan read carefully and started writing calmly.
Liorin answered every question with sharp focus.

But Eryx…
lay slumped on the bench, shoulders slouched.

The paper before him was a battlefield of red crosses. Mistakes clawed at every line, mocking him silently.

He ran a hand through his messy hair, tugging at it in frustration.

Eryx (muttering):
This is… bad.

His eyes darted over the page again, hoping for some miracle, some hidden mark he’d missed. But no—the mistakes stared back, relentless.

He gritted his teeth, tapping his pencil nervously against the table. Each tap echoed in his mind like a countdown to failure.

Eryx (to himself):
How did I mess up this badly? I can’t let this be the end… I just can’t.

He clenched his fists, the paper crumpling slightly under his grip. A small spark of determination flickered in his eyes.

Eryx:
No. I’ll fix this. I have to.

Slowly, he straightened, pencil ready, as though rising from a personal defeat to face a new battle. Mistakes or not, he wouldn’t back down—not today.

Result Day

The trio sat on the bench outside the heavy, metal door.

Eryx fidgeted, his fingers tapping nervously against his knee. His stomach churned with a mix of fear and anticipation.

Suddenly, a voice came from inside.
Soldier:
Team 111.
They stood up and walked inside.
A soldier looked at their result sheet.

The soldier’s voice cut through the room.

Soldier:
Passing marks are above five.

He unfolded the sheet and began reading aloud.

Soldier:
Vihaan.
Strength — 9 out of 10
Other Skills — 10 out of 10
Written — 7 out of 10

Eryx whistled softly, eyes widening.

Eryx:
Not bad.

The soldier moved down the list.

Soldier:
Liorin.
Strength — 8 out of 10
Other Skills — 9 out of 10
Written — 10 out of 10

Liorin smirked, leaning back slightly, clearly satisfied.

Eryx’s throat tightened. Now only one result remained.

The soldier glanced at the paper, then at Eryx.

Soldier:
Eryx.
Strength — 10 out of 10
Other Skills — 8 out of 10
Written — 5.1 out of 10

Silence fell. The numbers seemed to echo in the room.

Then Eryx’s eyes lit up. He leapt from his seat, fists pumping.

Eryx:
I PASSED?!

Vihaan chuckled quietly, shaking his head at Eryx’s excitement.

Liorin smirked, crossing his arms.

Liorin:
Told you, you’ve got the strength… now work on the rest.

Eryx grinned, heart pounding. For the first time in days, he felt a spark of confidence ignite.

Meanwhile…
Inside another room.
Valen stood near a window, looking toward the distant Mount Vaeloris.
A voice came from behind.
Smith:
Your record still stands valen.
Valen turned.
Standing at the door was Commander Smith.
Smith:
None of the volunteers trained by you have ever failed.
Valen smiled slightly.
Valen:
Commander Smith.
You often come with good news.
after a pause
Valen:
This team has a lot of potential.
Smith:
And that is exactly why I assigned them to you.
Because you are the only one who can make their potential useful.
Valen’s expression changed.
Valen:
But this team smells suspicious.
Smith raised an eyebrow.
Smith:
And I think the reason is… Kael.
Valen:
You are right commander.
Valen:
Kael is always one step ahead of  his enemies.
He can change minds… manipulate thoughts.
He even made our loyal Commander Draven betray Thornvyl.
(Valen looked serious.)
So why did he fail with the trio?
And if he really failed… why did he spare them?
Smith crossed his arms.
Smith:
What are you trying to say, Valen?
Valen:
I think… the trio might be a seed of betrayal.
A seed planted by Kael.
Smith nodded slowly.
Smith:
You are right about one thing,
Kael  is a man who does not fight with swords.
He fights with minds.
(He walked closer.)
Smith:
H spared trio because he that Thornvyl would either kill them…
or imprison them.
If we killed them, the game would end in a draw.
But if we imprisoned them…
they would hate us.
And one day… Kael would use that hatred, against us
(Valen’s eyes widened slightly.)
Valen:
So this is a fight for pawns.
Valen:
And whichever side the pawn chooses…
will decide the winner.
Smith:
Exactly.
That is why we did something Kael never expected.
We trained them.
Valen:
You are a genius, Commander.
(But then his expression became serious again.)
Still… what is the guarantee they won’t betray us?
Smith looked out the window.
Smith:
There is no guarantee.
just a calculated risk.
Valen’s voice became cold.
Valen:
Then remember this commander,
My eyes are always on them.
And if I sense betrayal…
my sword will not hesitate to even blow head of my own students.
Smith nodded.
Smith:
Fair enough.
He walked toward the door.
Then stopped.
Smith:
But before you swing your sword…
ask them the reason.
Sometimes… the truth changes everything.
Smith left the room.
Valen looked toward the mountain again.
Valen (whispering):
Kael… what are you planning?
The clouds slowly gathered around Mount Vaeloris.
And somewhere in the distance…
The game had already begun.

Three pawns.
Two sides.
One inevitable war.
