Elyndor: eyes of the unseen

The Path of Sword

The Path of Sword

Mar 06, 2026

The path of sword
Every warrior dreams of their first mission.
But sometimes… the mission chooses them before they are ready.
The morning market of Thornvyl was alive with noise.
Merchants shouted prices.
Children ran through the narrow streets.
The smell of roasted meat and fresh vegetables drifted through the air.
Among the crowd walked Vihaan and Eryx.
Vihaan casually tossed a small coin into the air again and again, catching it with effortless timing.
Beside him, Eryx carried a cloth bag filled with vegetables, looking far less relaxed.
Eryx:
“Why do I always end up carrying the groceries?”
Vihaan smirked.
Vihaan:
“Because you look strong. People trust strong people with heavy work.”
Eryx rolled his eyes.
Eryx:
“You're the worst teammate.”
They continued walking through the busy street.
Then suddenly—
Both of them froze.
Their eyes widened.
They stared straight ahead.
At the same time, both spoke in shock.
Vihaan & Eryx:
“No way.”
Vihaan slowly leaned forward, squinting.
Vihaan:
“Have you seen… what I have seen?”
Eryx nodded slowly, still staring.
Eryx:
“Yes! This is the tenth girl whom Master Valen is dating.”
Across the street, Master Valen walked casually beside a cheerful young woman, speaking to her as if he had all the time in the world.
Eryx shook his head in disbelief.
Eryx:
“How does he even manage this?”
Vihaan flipped his coin again.
Vihaan:
“Master level skills.”
After a few more minutes, the two reached a two-floor wooden building.
They climbed the stairs and knocked on the door.
The door opened.
Liorin stood there, calm as always.
He looked at the bag in Eryx’s hands.
Liorin:
“You took long enough.”
Eryx stepped inside and dropped the bag on the table.
Eryx:
“Blame your genius master.”
Vihaan walked inside and stretched before falling onto one of the beds.
Vihaan:
“You won't believe what we saw.”
Liorin raised an eyebrow.
Liorin:
“I’m afraid to ask.”
After a brief explanation, Liorin simply shook his head.
Liorin:
“I refuse to believe that man is our trainer.”
Eryx collapsed on the second bed dramatically.
Vihaan stood up and walked toward the balcony.
The afternoon wind brushed against his face as he leaned against the railing.
For a moment, everything was quiet.
Then—
A shadow passed across the sky.
An eagle descended from above, its wings cutting through the air with precision.
Tied to its leg was a rolled paper message.
The bird landed lightly on a small wooden box fixed to the balcony railing.
It casually dropped the message.
The moment the letter touched the box—
The lower plate of the box pressed down slightly, triggering a hidden mechanism.
A small metal ring chimed softly.
The eagle immediately took flight again, disappearing into the sky.
Vihaan picked up the message.
He unfolded it and read quickly.
Then he walked back inside.
Eryx looked up lazily.
Eryx:
“What is it?”
Vihaan held up the message.
Vihaan:
“We are called tomorrow morning on the training ground for our counseling.”
Both Eryx and Liorin reacted instantly.
Eryx sat up.
Liorin’s eyes sharpened slightly.
The room slowly faded into silence.
Tomorrow… something important would begin.
The Next Morning
The training ground was filled with rows of soldiers.
Young warriors stood in perfect formation.
Beside them sat several masters, observing silently from their chairs.
At the front, on a raised platform, stood Commander Smith.
His presence alone commanded attention.
The entire ground was silent.
Smith paused for a moment.
His eyes slowly moved across the rows of soldiers.
Most of them were over twenty years old.
But among them stood the trio—
Vihaan, Eryx, and Liorin, only sixteen.
Smith finally began speaking.
Smith:
“Today you all stand here because you have passed the exam.”
He paused briefly.
Smith:
“But the real struggle begins from here.”
The soldiers listened carefully.
Smith:
“From today you have to apply what you have learned so far.”
His voice grew firmer.
Smith:
“But here the real choice comes. You have to choose which path you will follow.”
He raised his hand slightly.
Smith:
“Here are the choices.”
He began listing them.
Smith:
“Border Guards — the ones who safeguard the borders of our territory.”
Smith:
“Village Guards — the ones who maintain law and authority in our villages.”
He paused again.
Smith:
“And Missionary Soldiers — the ones who perform missions inside and outside the territory.”
The soldiers exchanged glances.
This decision would shape their entire future.
A guard began walking through the rows.
He carried a pen and a sheet of paper.
Each soldier wrote their name… and their chosen path.
The guard reached Vihaan.
Vihaan looked at the paper.
For a moment, he thought silently.
His expression shifted slightly.
Then he wrote.
Missionary.
The guard moved forward.
He stopped at Liorin.
Liorin did not hesitate long.
He wrote calmly.
Missionary.
The guard finally stopped before Eryx.
Eryx scratched his head.
He looked toward Vihaan and Liorin.
Then he shrugged.
And wrote.
Missionary.
A few minutes later, another guard approached the rows.
He carried a wooden chest.
One by one, he handed Thornvyl swords to the soldiers.
Each warrior received their blade.
The steel shimmered under the sunlight.
Commander Smith stepped forward once again.
Smith:
“This is not just a sword.”
His voice echoed across the ground.
Smith:
“It is the reason of your life… and also of your death.”
The soldiers stood silently.
Smith:
“This is not only a weapon. It is a part of your body.”
He raised his sword slightly.
Smith:
“And the day you make it your part… no one can beat you.”
His voice grew stronger.
Smith:
“From today your paths begin.”
The wind blew across the field.
Smith:
“No matter which path you have chosen, this sword will be your best ally.”
He looked across the entire army.
Smith:
“As long as you are loyal to it… it will remain loyal to you.”
A final pause.
Then his voice thundered.
Smith:
“But remember… this sword is not made to kill someone.”
“It is made to protect everyone.”
“To protect Thornvyl.”
He raised his sword high.
Smith:
“Long live Thornvyl!”
Immediately the soldiers and masters raised their swords.
“LONG LIVE THORNVYL!”
The cry echoed across the entire training ground.
Gradually the formation dissolved.
Soldiers began leaving their rows.
Some talked excitedly.
Others quietly examined their new weapons.
Among them, Vihaan stood still.
He lifted his sword and studied it carefully.
The blade was sharp and perfectly crafted.
Ancient engraved symbols ran along the steel.
At the guard sat a small green diamond.
The handle was copper, firm and balanced.
Behind him, Eryx swung his sword playfully.
Eryx:
“Feels lighter than I expected.”
Liorin examined the blade closely.
Liorin:
“These markings… they’re not decorative.”
Before Vihaan could respond—
A calm voice appeared behind them.
Valen:
“Report to me tomorrow morning. Early.”
The trio turned.
Master Valen stood behind them with his usual bored expression.
Valen:
“We leave for your first mission.”
Eryx blinked in surprise.
Eryx:
“But how do you know we have chosen missionary path?”
Valen had already begun walking away.
He paused for a moment, glancing over his shoulder with a faint smirk.
Valen:
“That is why I am your master, boy.”
Then he disappeared into the crowd.
The trio stood silently.
Their first mission was about to begin.
