This is chapter 9, it's the next chapter the narrative change happens. It only gets better from here on.
********************************
Noah's POV
Ha
"…What did you…hel…no…"
Ha

It hurts
Ha

Stop crying
Ha

It hurts
Ha

It's tastes weird
Ha

"Help!! Please!!!"
Don't die

*************************************

Beep…beep

The air smelled like antiseptic.

Chilly.

The bright fluorescent lights of room burnt my eyes as I struggled to open them.

Something scraped down my throat every time I tried to swallow.

I taste plastic.

I wanted to force it out of my throat but I couldn't move.

Every thing hurts.

And that beeping? God it hurts!

Ramming me like a high-speed train.

The sound of the door being slid open filled the room but I couldn't move to find out who entered the room.

When I saw a person wearing a scrub enter my field of vision, I sighed in relief knowing where I lie.

When she noticed my open eyes she bolted out of the room.

What happened next was a blur as my consciousness started to fade.

All that I could think, hope for is that Kael is okay.

*************************************
I felt like I'm falling, the darkness and emptiness lonely yet peaceful.

"Who are you?"

What?

"What…are you the…give…"

Huh? I-I don't understand.

What do you want?

"HOW. DARE. YOU?!"

STOP IT!!

I woke up with a start, my heart beating rapidly. My eyes scanned the room in fright, upon noticing I'm alone, I started to calm down.

The pain kicked in the moment I relaxed and a groan escaped my lips, my shoulder and sides throbbing.

The door at the far end of the room slid open, I expected Kael to strut in but Kathleen entered.

When she looked up to see me sitting upright, she burst into tears and ran to me.

She grabbed the sides of the bed and sobbed, her shoulders trembling.

When I reached for her, she pushed my hand away and sobbed even harder.

When she calmed down, she turned to me, her face stern and asked,

"Noah Ware, who is that man you brought into your home?"

*************************************

___POV
In the crowd of patients and staff alike, a lone man stood.

He wore a grab similar to that of ancient Greeks in red and white.

His hair golden like the morning Sun, his skin pale as if he hasn't spent a second under the rays of sunlight. His visible eye the purest shade of gold.

Half of his face is covered with a prosthetic mask, hiding it from view.

The crowd seemed to ignore him like he is not there yet subconsciously making way for him to pass through.

He walked up to the room Noah lay and stared in from outside.

"A tether, huh? Cute"

Noah seemed to notice his gaze, but when he turned his head to the direction the man stood, he was gone.

*************************************

Noah's POV
I could swear I felt a strong, probing, dangerous gaze on me but the moment o turned it was gone.

I stared at the window of the room in confusion.

Am I really going crazy?

"Noah! Are you even listening to me?!" Kathleen raged.

I turned to her slowly then blinked, my mind returning to the present. Sh*t.

"Are you really getting careless at a time like this?! You almost died for Christ's sake Noah!"

"No, no Katie it's not like that okay? I do take this seriously like look at me"

"Then give me a straight forward answer, who is he?"

I sighed and answered "I've told you who is he multiple times, why are you stressing over this?"

The look she gave me let me know that she has started to believe that I've gone mad

Sh*t²

"Why? It's because as you were bleeding out on the damn balcony, the motherfu*Ker was just standing there his hands covered in your blood!"

I winced.

"Wait, where is he though?" I asked scanning the surroundings for any sight of Kael.

"Why are you? Never mind, he's been held in a ward in the hospital. He was originally supposed to be taken to the police station but seeing how he is unresponsive he's being detained here"

Detained? Why?!

Sh*t³

"He's being accused of assaulting me isn't he"

"Accused?! Look at your condition, he assaulted you!"

I stood up from the hospital bed and yanked off all the tubes connected to me and started limping to the door.

Kathleen called out to me anger and worry filled in her voice but I ignored her and limped out of the room.

After asking the nurses around and almost fighting with a few because the wanted me back in my room, I made my way to Kael's ward.

On the way I wondered why Kael wasn't yanked towards me by the tether towards me as usual.

I know for a certain the tether hasn't learnt human decency so then why?

Two police officers flanked both sides of the door to the ward making sneaking in impossible.

I stood at a corner, staring at the door and sighed in frustration. The police men aren't moving an inch away from their post.

God I wish I had magic like Kael, it'll come in handy at a time like this.

"If they could just sleep let me pass through"

Just then I heard the sound of something heavy dropping on the ground, I turned to look and to my surprise the police men lay flat on the floor.

I didn't stand to dwell on it and rushed into the room only to see Kael sitting blankly staring into an empty space just as how I last saw him.

The fear of what happened before bubbled in my mind, my leg shook as I slowly walked up to him calling his name but he remained unresponsive.

Once I closed the distance between us, I gingerly reached out to touch him and once our skin made contact I felt an intense burning pain on my arm.

When I looked down at the spot I saw a spiral chain like tattoo on my arm. The brighter it grew the more the pain became.

I tired to let go of Kael but my hand wouldn't budge. When I felt like I was on the verge of death because of the pain, my grip loosen and I fell.

I looked down at my arm as the pain began to fade and the tattoo was gone.

"Noah?"

I whipped my head towards Kael in shock, he looked confused.

"Where am I? Is this some sort of a hospital?" Before I could answer any of his questions he stood up from the bed but his legs gave up under him and he fell to the floor.

"What the bloody hell happened?"

"We are wondering the same thing" Two men in suits walked into the ward and looked at us.

"What happened on the balcony yesterday and why is the victim sitting with the suspect on the floor?"

Kael's POV
A terrible gut feeling simmered in my gut, I just know that what ever just happened, whatever I just went through it's not over.

I could feel it, something at the back of my mind trying to get a hold of my consciousness.

It didn't help that a detective's burning gaze is being directed squarely on my face.

He wasn't even focusing on what my summoner explaining, rather on me.

But I'm not going to fold under his gaze, I looked directly into his eyes. He tsked and moved his gaze away but my hardened.

I know the look in his eyes, the distain and distrust. He's not going to let me go easily.

"Are you sure you are not going to press charges, if you are being coerced or afraid we can get protection" Ah I expect as much, didn't take long.

My summoner just waived his hand around frantically trying to dispell the detective's suspicion, "No no there's no need"

After a millennium of reassurances they both left but the fun stuff happened after.

One of the doctors came to check on Noah's injuries fearing that it has been reopened only for it to be scabbed over.

The confusion on the doctor's and my summoner's faces was rich but I remained calm, a faint suspicion in my mind.

Ultimately we were discharged, goodness finally.

Once we arrived at the abode, my summoner spoke up "I think we broke the doctors mind"

"Most likely"

"Do you know why I healed so quickly?"

I contemplated telling him my suspicion but it's too early to give a verdict and such things are myths, they never happened…ever.

"No I'm not sure, maybe a result of what transpired the day before"

He looked hesitant, as if he had words unsaid "Yeah, sure. What exactly happened though?"

Actually, what happened to me? One moment I was sitting on the counch, next thing I'm in the hospital.

"Kael! You need to see this"

I turned to see the human staring at the railings of the balcony. I walked up to him and we made our way onto the balcony.

This stared the beginning of our woes.

Noah is broke, exhausted, and one bad decision away from losing everything.
Accidentally binding himself to a three-hundred-year-old demon wasn’t part of the plan.

Kael is ancient, sharp-tongued, and deeply unimpressed with modern life. Being tethered to a human is inconvenient. Being unable to break the pact is worse.
But when memories begin slipping and a silent presence starts watching from the shadows their uneasy partnership turns into a fight for survival.
With a tether binding them together and trauma's cold hand on their shoulder, these two see and survive situations they rather not repeat.

This is slow-burn BL urban fantasy with psychological thriller elements, supernatural tension, and morally gray choices.
