Fun fact: when I first made this comic, I wasn't fully sure of the lore behind the Darkness yet, and would have described Kaiji's realization here as an indication of the corruptive influence of the Darkness itself. Years later, I can pretty confidently say that this is an instance of the Dark Bringer communicating to her directly. Neat!
