Victor scurries to grab his briefcase and vaults through his open skylight, snapping it shut behind him midair. He flies toward the city, soaring above the surrounding towns, each sealed from the next by colossal gates, custom-built systems designed to regulate and protect their respective cities.
His face is shadowed with worry.
The roar of millions of EyEs reaches him before he lands.
The Royal Vox Concourse stretches endlessly below a sea of bodies all turned toward the throne. Space King sits high above them in a massive chair, larger than the man himself, finishing his address.
Victor lands near the back of the crowd and immediately drops to one knee, snapping open his briefcase. Metal rods unfold and lock together in his hands with practiced speed.
"Hey!" a guard shouts, rushing toward him. "What the hell do you think you're doing?"
"I have a presentation for the king," he says without looking up.
"Pack that shit back up, buddy. The window's closed. We're done for today."
Victor pauses, "Oh, that's too bad," as he starts to slowly disassemble the device.
The guard grunts and starts to walk away.
Very quickly, Victor reassembles the structure. A towering tripod snaps into place with a sharp metallic clang. The sound ripples through the crowd.
Silence follows.
The guard starts to charge in his direction
Space King leans forward, amused.
"It's fine," he says. "Let's see what this is."
The guard stops in his tracks before bowing and walking back to his post
Victor exhales, smiling.
He rises into the air and begins to move his hands slowly, deliberately, almost ceremoniously. Electricity stirs, bending to his rhythm. Threads of light coil together, forming a pulsing orb that hums with contained force.
He lowers it gently onto the tripod.
The crowd holds its breath.
"Your Majesty," Victor begins, his voice carrying across the silence. "This will change our lives in ways we have only imagined. We are divided by our abilities, yet under your leadership, we are able to come to figure out life TOGETHER. Today, I want to show you and everyone here how we can stay and grow stronger".
Victor gestures to the tripod.
"I have created a way to channel electrical currents through every city, regardless of the 'EyE' power residing there. This energy will unlock dormant possibilities. For the Green Eyes, a quick burst of electrical stimulation to neoparticles can induce bioluminescence in plants, allowing them to glow for hours, which can address concerns of a lack of natural light in their nation. And that is only the beginning."
A wave of murmurs ripples through the Concourse.
"Hmm. Fascinating," Space King says, leaning forward and stroking his beard. The murmurs vanish instantly at the sound of his voice. "You... you are the same man who designed the Gates, are you not?"
Victor keeps his gaze steady. "Yes, Sire. I am Victor Fox."
Space King flashes a sharp smile. "So, do we have a demonstration, or is this merely a promise? If what you say is true, this could help end this pandemic of suffering among the EyEs."
Victor smiles back. "I was simply waiting for your approval."
He pulls out a small thermoelectric generator from his suitcase. "Now, I require a volunteer from the Red EyEs."
A forest of hands shoots into the air. Victor points to a large, burly man near the front.
"Thank you for volunteering. I need you to apply your heat directly to the base of this unit," Victor says, handing it to him.
As the Red EyE unleashes his power, the generator hums. The electric orb atop the tripod pulses with blinding light.
"This device will provide stable electricity throughout the Red Eye city. It can be used to regulate ambient temperatures, finally putting an end to the accidental heat explosions that plague your districts. "Placed in your nation, it automatically draws from your heat source and regenerates to stabilize the temperature across your territory." Now... I need one more volunteer. A Purple EyE."
Victor scans the crowd and selects a woman he recognizes from the purple-eyed nation; her eyes are the most stunning he's ever seen. She steps forward, standing near the Red EyE volunteer.
"Watch closely."
Victor pulls out a flat, rectangular pane of glass. With a tap, it flickers to life. He holds it up to the woman. "Focus your intent. Visualize whatever you wish, and channel that energy into the glass."
Space King's expression shifts from curiosity to enlightenment.
The woman closes her eyes, suddenly, a vibrant, comical cartoon appears on the glass, complete with synchronized audio. The crowd watches, mesmerized, before erupting into laughter and thunderous applause.
Victor bows slightly. As the cheers die down, he raises the glass.
"This can be available in every city. It is not just for entertainment; it is also for the spread of knowledge and awareness." He swipes his finger across the glass, showing the ability to replay the animation. "If we work together, we can create a world where we don't just worry about preserving our lives, but actually enjoying them. This is the future we have been waiting for."
Space King's face turns deadly serious. The Concourse falls into a heavy silence. He rises from his throne.
"Starting today, the reconstruction of every city begins including the Royal Kingdom. Each district will be reconstructed to meet the specific needs of its citizens. And Victor Fox..."
Victor's expression hardens.
"...I am hiring you to join my Tech Force immediately. You declined me once before. I see now you are a man who prefers his own time and his own space. I will grant you that flexibility. I expect you at the palace tomorrow to finalize the blueprints."
Without another word, Space King turns and departs.
The crowd erupts, chanting Victor's name. He allows himself a slow smile, the weight of his success finally sinking in.
This is just the beginning.
Victor turns to leave, but his eyes lock with the woman who volunteered. The gaze from her unique gold and purple eyes is beautiful and lingering; a warm smile spreads across her face, stopping him in his tracks.
