I'm very intentional with the way I write dialogue because I want every conversation to sound as natural as possible. I avoid expository dialogue that plainly states the characters' motivations and backstories to the audience because it's one of my biggest pet peeves in comics when done poorly. Not that it's always a bad form of storytelling, I just want to be a lot more intentional with my writing. The downside is that very important details I'm adding, like the entity bringing up "the house on highway 42", is quite confusing to the audience right now because the story hasn't given the proper context for that setup yet. It's going to be revealed why that house, and many other details/characters, are so important in the next couple of chapters, but that hasn't happened yet because this is a webcomic being uploaded in small chunks over time. Plus, as a slow-burn mystery drama, I have to build up our two main characters first before diving into their backstories. If the completed story was released all at once, then this issue would be remedied since all the reader has to do is keep reading while the info is fresh in their mind.
I plan on adding a whole lore sheet once chapter 2 is finished that has all the named/revealed characters mentioned thus far that will give better details on what's going on so that it's less confusing for all you readers!
If there's anything genuinely confusing about the story so far, I'd love to hear any ideas or critiques you guys have so that I can improve my writing going forward to be more concise with information and character motivations. Thank you for reading Teyshas!!!!!! <3
Childhood best friends and grown-up losers, Luke and Kody, are on a road trip through the Lone Star State.
They spend their days driving aimlessly through dry and hilly terrain, fighting off the overbearing heat by drinking entirely too much beer.
Luke has zero plans to change their leisurely nomadic lifestyle, but Kody is beginning to doubt their escape from "normal life" is really the paradise he once dreamt it to be...
Of course, being eternally stuck in limbo doesn't help the boredom much either.
Updates will be sporadic. Teyshas is 100% a passion project, and is made during what little free time I have.
