Bobby Braw Fire and Ice

The Scorching Heat

The Scorching Heat

Mar 30, 2026

In the middle of nowhere, a large glow appeared out of thin air. After a couple of seconds, it vanished and revealed the bus that had been lying underneath the whole time. Bobby, Hannah, Edward and Beth felt the entire process take place, but they weren't sure if it had gone in their favour. "Did it work?," asked Edward. Hannah approached one of the windows and looked through it. She saw nothing but a bright orange sky and an endless supply of sand dunes. "I think so," she replied.

"Should we go out and explore this place?," asked Bobby. "I'm not sure," replied Beth. "Do you know what's out there?," she asked. "Well, we did some research and it turns out there's scorpions, beetles, mosquitos and snakes in this area," answered Bobby. "The mosquitos are only in the rocky areas but still," he added. "In that case, we're not walking around The Sunlands,". replied Beth. "But we need to, we have to find that castle and stop those people from messing up the weather," explained Bobby. "Besides, you used to be a nurse, surely you'd know how to heal wounds," he added. "I know how to heal lots of different things, but it still isn't fun to get bitten by a snake or stung by a mosquito," explained Beth.

At that moment, she thought of something. "Do you have mosquito repellent in one of your bags?," she asked. "Let me check," replied Bobby before walking towards the pile of bags. He went through each bag one by one, searching every pocket. On his third bag, he found what he was looking for. "Yes we do," answered Bobby while holding the can for Beth to see. As he walked back to her, she came up with another idea. "Since this is a new environment for all of us, how about we spend the rest of today adjusting to it, and start looking for the castle tomorrow," suggested Beth. "Sounds good," replied Bobby. "Can't argue with that, do you mind if we go out of the base for a little bit?," asked Edward. "Sure, but be cautious of hazards and don't walk too far from the base," explained Beth.

Without any stalling, Hannah and Edward walked out of the base. "Are you coming?," asked Bobby. "No, I'm going to stay here," answered Beth. Just then, she grabbed the fan near her and turned it on. A cool mist clouded the room as it kept turning its head side to side. It reduced the temperature when the clouds were not available to provide a nice breeze. Bobby didn't get to experience it for long, since he shortly walked out of the base in order to join Hannah and Edward.

Upon going outdoors, Bobby felt as if he had entered an oven. Hot air blew into his face and surrounded him in every direction. Hannah and Edward were walking in the distance. Both of them had left many shoeprints in the sand. Within a couple of seconds Bobby ran up to them. "So, what do you think of this place?," he asked. "Very hot, I can't imagine what it would be like living here," replied Edward. He was squinting in an effort to protect himself from the sunflare. "I'm sure Hannah's enjoying it," he added. "No, I'm not," she protested. "I may live near the beach, and my favourite season may be summer, but this is too much even for me," she explained. "At least it's giving me some new writing material," she added while grabbing out her notebook.

For the next twenty minutes, Bobby Hannah and Edward walked along the wavy sand dunes, while making sure the base was still in sight. During the whole thing, Hannah wrote about many things on her page. Such as the intense heat, the wide sandy landscape, the beautiful orange sky and her dehydration. She had only been taking small sips of water, in an effort to save as much as possible for the actual mission. Bobby appeared to be doing the same, but Edward wasn't. His bottle hardly had any water left.

When they least expected it, the three of them found something amazing from afar. It was a group of trees, huddling together in the empty desert. Bobby, Hannah and Edward ran towards it, hoping it was some kind of oasis. Once they got there, it turned out to be better than they imagined. The area was a lot bigger than they thought, and there was a lake hidden behind the circle of trees. "Would you look at that, I knew there would be a water supply around here somewhere," commented Hannah. "Is the water safe to drink?," asked Bobby. "I think so, it looks relatively clean," assumed Hannah. "Besides, we can filter it, boil it or whatever if we need to," she added.

Without hesitation, Edward took all of his footwear off and dipped his feet into the water. "Ah, I needed that," he muttered. "You should try it," he suggested to Bobby and Hannah. Shortly after, the two of them removed their sandy footwear and submerged their feet into the lake. It wasn't much, but in the dry smouldering desert, it was very refreshing. For the next fifteen minutes, Bobby, Hannah and Edward chatted to each other, while letting the cold water flow past them. Upon remembering Beth's instruction, Bobby turned his head to see if the base was still in sight. Fortunately, it was. A couple minutes later, Hannah and Edward began to lose interest in the oasis water.

"We should probably go back now," said Hannah as she released her feet from the lake. She put her sandals back on, trying as hard as possible not to get sand all over them. Bobby and Edward agreed with her and decided to do the same. Shortly after, the three of them walked away from the oasis, while keeping a mental note of its location. Ten minutes later, Bobby, Hannah and Edward reached the base. When they got inside, they were shrouded in a cool mist. Bobby recognised it, but Hannah and Edward didn't.

"Good idea bringing that fan," stated Edward. "Thank you, Oliver and I have owned it for six years," replied Beth. "It's helped make the house refreshing in the hottest Fluvaria summers, we can't sleep without it," she explained. "Fluvaria doesn't get this hot," replied Hannah. "I know, but the fan seems to be effective against all heat, even though we're in one of the world's hottest places," explained Beth.

"Another thing, we have some good news to tell you," announced Bobby. "What is it?" asked Beth. "While we went out, we found an oasis near the base," explained Bobby. "It can be our water source while we're here," he added. "I'm not sure about that," replied Beth. "We don't know if it's safe to drink, besides we'll be driving all across The Sunlands, we won't always be near it," she explained. "True, but Hannah said we could filter or boil the water," replied Bobby. "Before we leave this spot, we could leave something near the oasis so that we can easily find it," he suggested. "Like what?" asked Beth. "I don't know, just something that's easy to track down and spot in the distance," he explained. "It's surrounded by a group of trees in the middle of the desert, It's already easy to spot," commented Edward. "Okay," replied Bobby.

The rest of the day was easy. They all made some wraps for dinner and did their own thing afterwards. Once they all decided to go to bed, the sun had only just started to set. The fan was kept on throughout the entire night. Without it, nobody would ever get a chance of catching some sleep. Bobby, Hannah, Edward and Beth all spent the evening wondering how the others were doing.
