Shop Lifting

Shop Lifting

Apr 15, 2026

Tilly really did like to keep us on our toes! As I have previously mentioned, Tilly loved toys and treats, so as you can imagine, a pet shop was Tilly's own personal doggy heaven. We would take Tilly there as a special treat to grab a little snack or maybe a new toy to keep her entertained for a few minutes; however, we learned quite early on that one of us would need to have an eye on her AT ALL TIMES! I hate to say it and break the illusion of this perfect, innocent little dog, but Tilly was a shop lifter. A shop lifter who showed no remorse, I would say she was a kleptomaniac doing it for the thrill and irresistible urge, but to put it simply, Tilly did it for her own gain. Why should she not have that bone? It was just sitting there on its own. What is the point in that?!?? We discovered Tilly's law-breaking tendencies one day, when, after a visit to the pet shop, we were looking down to see what she was sniffing (and to make sure she wasn't eating anything off the street), and were astonished to find something in her mouth! We knew it was not the treat we had just purchased, which was safely secreted in my mum's shopping bag; a closer inspection revealed the "something" in her mouth as a stolen bone. Then followed the embarrassed trudge back to the pet shop, during which Tilly dug her paws in (I think she knew she had done something she shouldn't have!). On our return to the shop, we explained the situation and paid for the stolen goods. Tilly was overjoyed. We were mortified. This story is about the lessons Tilly (and other animal friends) taught me and is a way for me to share them with others. Here is a key lesson. DO NOT SHOP LIFT!

Tilly. No words will every do justice to describing this joyful little dog, who was the living definition of sunshine and everything positive. Although every second dog I meet is called Tilly, my Tilly was anything but common. Tilly’ story deserves to be told and needs to be told. Tilly lived life to the absolute fullest and we could all learn something from her. How to laugh a little longer, take pleasure in the small things and love with your entire heart. Tilly was my best friend, and she did not belong to me, we belonged to each other. She was the light to my dark, and for 10 years I had the pleasure of loving her. This is her story.
