Elyndor: eyes of the unseen

The Man at the End of Every Path

The Man at the End of Every Path

Apr 19, 2026

Everything fell silent.

No movement.
No reaction.

Even thoughts—

Felt… frozen.

The forest held its breath.

The wind stopped.

Time itself seemed to hesitate.

—

Then—

Eryx stepped forward.

His grip tightened on his sword.

A faint grin crossed his face.

Eryx:
“Finally found you…”
“…and I am trained now.”

Kael stood still.

Unbothered.

A cigarette burned quietly between his fingers.

He took a slow drag—

Then looked at Eryx.

His eyes calm.

Almost amused.

Kael:
“You are like this burning cigarette…”

A thin trail of smoke curled into the air.

Kael (continuing):
“Capable to burn a whole forest…”

He lowered his hand slightly—

Then crushed the burning embers with his thumb.

The glow died instantly.

Kael:
“But only if used in the right place.”
“…Dry grass.”
“Not a running river.”

Silence followed.

Heavy.

Sharp.

—

Liorin’s voice cut through it.

Cold.

Precise.

Liorin:
“Why are you here…?”

Kael didn’t look at her immediately.

His gaze drifted across the forest.

As if he already owned it.

Then—

Kael:
“I am there… where I should be.”

—

Vihaan stepped forward.

Eyes steady.

Unyielding.

Vihaan:
“Don’t come in our way.”

Kael finally looked at him.

A faint smile appeared.

Not mocking.

Not friendly.

Something deeper.

Kael:
“I am not in your path…”

A pause.

His voice lowered.

Kael:
“Every path… ends at me.”

—

A moment passed.

Liorin smiled.

Slightly.

As if she had expected that answer.

—

Then—

A shadow dropped from above.

Silent.

Controlled.

—

Landing between them.

—

Dust rose slightly beneath his feet.

—

Master Valen.

—

His presence alone shifted the balance.

The air grew heavier.

Sharper.

—

Three sides.

One center.

—

And the battlefield—

Was no longer theirs.

Without wasting a second—

The trio turned their horses.

And rode.

Fast.

Away from the confrontation.

Kael didn’t move to stop them.

Didn’t even try.

Because he didn’t need to.

His eyes remained on Valen.

“Valen…” he said softly.
“A demon of speed.”

A pause.

“If you are here… then who is with Sue?”

Valen’s eyes sharpened instantly.

“What do you mean?”

Kael’s smile widened slightly.

“What I mean… you already understand.”

He took a slow step forward.

“Sue is a perfect strategist…”
“…but not a legendary fighter.”

A flicker of anger passed through Valen’s eyes.

Kael continued—

“‘She is safe till you are with her.’”
He paused.
“That’s what Smith told you, right?”

Valen’s body shifted.

Just slightly.

Turning—

Ready to move.

Toward Sue.

“Wait, Valen.”

Kael’s voice stopped him.

Sharp.

Precise.

“Have you made your decision… to lose Smith?”

Valen stopped.

His fists clenched.

“He is already safe,” Valen replied.
“With Team 111.”

Kael exhaled softly, almost disappointed.

“You have trained them well.”
“To identify traps…”
“To survive…”
“To create… and destroy.”

A pause.

Then his tone changed.

“But are you sure…”
“…they can survive a trap made by me?”

Valen froze.

For the first time—

Uncertainty appeared.

Kael lit a cigarette.

The faint red glow reflected in his eyes.

“They are perfect,” he said quietly.
“But survival…”

He took a slow drag.

“…requires experience. Not perfection.”

Valen’s voice came out tight.

“What are you trying to say?”

Smoke drifted into the cold air.

Kael turned slightly.

“If you want to save Sue…”
“…forget about Team 111… and Smith.”

A pause.

Heavy.

Deadly.

“And if you choose to save Smith…”

He looked back over his shoulder.

“I promise you…”

“…you will never see Sue alive again.”

Silence.

Absolute.

Kael stepped back.

And vanished into the shadows of the forest.

As if he was never there.

---

Valen stood still.

Frozen between two choices.

Two lives.

Two paths.

Both leading to loss.

His legs gave way.

He dropped to his knees.

The ground beneath him felt heavier than ever before.

For the first time—

The man who moved faster than sound…

Could not move at all.

---

Dark clouds began to gather above.

The forest dimmed.

Light faded into a cold gray, as if the sky itself was holding its breath.

Everything felt… still.

Too still.

In the middle of that silence—

Valen remained on his knees.

Unmoving.

A slow wind passed through the trees, brushing against his untidy white hair, making the strands shift softly across his face.

His eyes were closed.

But his mind—

Was not.

—

Two paths.

Two lives.

And one choice.

—

Kael’s voice echoed faintly in his mind.

“If you want to save Sue…”
“…forget about Team 111… and Smith.”

Another voice followed—

Calm. Firm.

Smith.

“She is safe till you are with her.”

—

Valen’s grip tightened slightly against the ground.

—

What is strength…?

Speed? Skill? Victory?

—

A memory flashed.

A younger Valen—

Falling again and again during training.

Breathing heavily.

Failing.

And in front of him—

Smith.

Watching silently.

—

“Stand up.”

—

Another flash—

A battlefield.

Chaos.

Valen standing frozen for a second—

And Smith stepping forward, cutting down an enemy in a single motion.

—

“On a battlefield… hesitation kills more than the enemy.”

—

Another memory—

Team 111.

Eryx laughing.

Vihaan observing silently.

Liorin calculating every move.

—

“You don’t train warriors to follow you…”
“…you train them to survive without you.”

—

Valen’s breath deepened.

His fingers slowly moved—

Reaching his sword.

—

If I choose one… I lose the other.

If I hesitate… I lose both.

—

The wind grew stronger.

Leaves rustled.

—

Kael is right about one thing…

Perfection is not enough.

—

His grip tightened around the hilt.

Firm.

Unshaken.

—

But he is wrong about the ending.

—

“I don’t know…” Valen whispered under his breath.

“…if I can save both.”

A pause.

His head lowered slightly.

“…but I will try.”

Another breath.

Stronger.

Steadier.

“…till the end.”

—

He stood up.

Slowly.

But with absolute control.

—

His eyes opened.

Sharp.

Focused.

Alive.

A faint green glow ignited within them—

Burning brighter with resolve.

—

I am not choosing between them.

I am breaking the choice itself.

—

The air around him shifted.

The hesitation—

Gone.

Replaced by something far more dangerous.

—

Decision.

—

Without another word—

Valen moved.

And in the next moment—

He disappeared into the forest.

Like a shadow…

Faster than doubt itself.

Scene — Command Room

The command room was quiet.

Only the soft rustle of papers broke the silence.

Commander Sue sat at her desk, revising documents with calm precision. The faint light of a lantern flickered across the room.

Outside—

The wind grew violent.

Windows rattled.

The air shifted.

Sue’s hand paused mid-page.

Something is wrong.

Then—

BOOM!

The door burst open.

Wood splintered.

Dust scattered into the air.

At the entrance—

A shadow stood.

Still.

Silent.

Watching.

Sue’s eyes sharpened instantly.

Her hand moved to her sword.

“Who are you?” she asked firmly.

The figure stepped forward.

Slow.

Measured.

“Death itself.”

Kael.

The door slammed shut behind him with the same force it had opened.

The sound echoed through the room.

Sealing it.

Sue stood up.

Her blade slid free in a clean motion.

Steel gleamed under the dim light.

Across from her—

Kael raised his hand.

Dark energy gathered.

Forming—

His Aeralith sword.

The air grew heavier.

So this is it…

Sue’s grip tightened.

Valen is not here.

A brief pause in her thoughts.

Then I fight.

Her stance lowered.

Controlled.

Calculated.

Delay him…

Or defeat him.

---

Scene — The Forest

The horses slowed.

Then stopped.

Abruptly.

Vihaan pulled the reins slightly, scanning ahead.

The path—

Split into three.

Left.

Right.

Center.

Silence stretched.

Eryx frowned.

“…This wasn’t here before.”

Liorin’s eyes moved rapidly, analyzing.

“No… this is wrong.”

Vihaan’s gaze hardened.

“A trap.”

A moment—

Too short.

Too late.

—

THWIP! THWIP! THWIP!

Arrows rained from the shadows.

Fast.

Relentless.

The horses panicked.

They neighed violently—

Rearing up.

“Control them!” Vihaan shouted.

But fear had already taken over.

The animals broke formation—

Running wildly.

Pulling them apart.

“No—wait!” Eryx yelled, trying to turn back.

Another arrow struck near his horse.

It jerked—

And bolted toward the right path.

“ERYX—!” Vihaan’s voice cut through the chaos.

But distance had already begun to form.

Liorin pulled hard on the reins, trying to resist the movement.

Another arrow—

Closer.

Her horse turned sharply—

Dragging her toward the left path.

Her eyes widened for a split second.

They are separating us.

On purpose.

—

Vihaan’s grip tightened.

His horse surged forward—

Straight into the center path.

“No… no this is bad—”

—

Behind them—

A heavy thud.

Something hit the ground.

Hard.

—

Smith.

His body rolled across the rough earth, dragged off balance by the sudden chaos.

The chains clinked violently.

His shoulder slammed against a rock.

A sharp pain shot through his body—

But he didn’t react immediately.

His eyes remained half-open.

Dazed.

Heavy.

So this is… how it unfolds…

Another arrow struck near him—

Dust rose around his fallen form.

He tried to move—

But his body refused.

No strength…

No control…

Only awareness.

And realization.

—

From a distance—

Vihaan turned back.

“COMMANDER—!”

He pulled the reins hard—

Trying to return.

But arrows blocked the path.

Precise.

Calculated.

His horse resisted violently.

Refusing to move against the barrage.

“Move!” Vihaan shouted, frustration rising.

But it was useless.

—

Eryx, from the other path, twisted his body to look back.

His eyes widened.

“Smith—!”

He tried to jump off—

But another arrow forced him back.

His jaw clenched.

Damn it… DAMN IT!

—

Liorin’s gaze locked onto the scene for a brief second.

Smith—

Lying alone.

Unprotected.

Still.

Her expression hardened.

This is controlled.

Every movement… planned.

Her horse carried her deeper.

Further away.

We were led here.

—

Back at the center—

Smith lay still.

The battlefield noise faded around him.

Only the wind remained.

Cold.

Empty.

—

So this is Kael’s move…

A faint, almost invisible smile touched his face.

Separating the board…

Before removing the king.

—

His eyes slowly closed.

—

The three paths stretched deeper into darkness.

Each carrying one member of Team 111—

Further apart.

Further alone.

—

And behind them—

On the ground—

Commander Smith remained.

Still.

Silent.

And completely exposed.
