I was thankfully able to get some sleep last night, so I'm now rested. We were all idle in the yard when we heard 3 whistles coming towards us, and we knew exactly who they were. Edward, Duck, and Donald pulled in beside the yard, and they were relieved to see we were alright, but Percy of course wasn't happy, I suddenly felt him shaking violently, and I hopped out of the cab to see what was wrong. When I saw his face, oh god he was petrified. His pupils were as small as they could be and his eyes looked bloodshot again! Percy suddenly screamed and shot out of the yards, taking Greg with him! I quickly hopped into Thomas' cab and Thomas took off after his best friend!
We sped down the line as fast as we could, but Percy had a sizeable head start. I could hear Greg screaming and yelling at Percy to stop, but he kept going. I'm guessing he was trying to stop Percy himself, but since he doesn't use the controls, there's no way he could stop Percy on his own. Thomas pounded the rails trying desperately to catch up, he was scared but angry at the same time.
We rushed through Wellsworth and I could've sworn I saw James in the yard. As we were approaching Gordon's hill, we heard the puffing of an engine coming from behind us, and we were shocked to see James pull up next to us! Thomas quickly explained the situation to James and the two engines charged on down the line.
Soon enough we were over the hill and we had a problem; we had lost sight of Percy. Since James was faster, Thomas told him to go ahead and James sped up. Thomas then yelled for him to whistle loudly if he found Percy, James agreed and we soon lost sight of him. Bob noticed Thomas was low on water, and we would need to stop somewhere or risk him exploding.
We pulled into Cronk-Abbey to fill Thomas up on water, he was really exhausted and worried for Percy. I went up to him and told him about how Percy's mentality wasn't strong at all, and Thomas' face fell. Soon enough, Thomas was filled up with water and topped up on coal. We quickly sped out of the yard in a desperate bid to find Percy and James.
While we were heading down the mainline, we were also keeping an eye out for any other engines, and we mostly found nothing. All we really saw were blown up trucks in sidings. We soon made it to Kellsthorpe Road, and what we found was horrifying. James was sitting in the middle of the line, crying softly to himself. I knew exactly what, or- who he was looking at.
In a siding, crashed into a flatbed of pipes, was Percy. I jumped out of Thomas' cab and ran over to the saddle tank. I first went to check on Greg, and he was thankfully breathing, but he was out cold. Percy on the other hand was not in good shape. He was covered in cuts and bruises along with having a hole in his cheek from what I'm guessing is a pipe. He was also out cold, and I, along with Thomas, were especially worried. Thomas tried to comfort James, but James kept saying that if he'd pushed himself harder, this wouldn't have happened. Thomas and James just looked sadly down at their buffers.
We soon got coupled up to Percy and started pulling him back to Crosby. On our way, we heard an engine coming closer, followed by a whistle we all recognized. Screeching to a halt beside us was Gordon! He was shocked to see us but when he saw Percy's condition, he immediately froze. We told him what happened and he agreed to come back to Crosby with us.
Instead of going to Crosby, we actually stopped at Wellsworth since the others moved here while we were gone. When they saw Percy's condition, they were very worried for him. Thomas shunted Percy into the goods shed and me along with some of the other crews put Greg in a nearby workmen's hut. Once everything had calmed down, we all just sat in silence. Thomas was incredibly worried about Percy and I could tell he was trying not to cry. I think I'll just stop writing for today, since we all need some time to settle down. I pray to God tomorrow will be better.
