Alright, so that diesel still hasn't come back yet, and surprisingly, some of the engines are worried for him. A little update on Percy, he still hasn't woken up which is making me very concerned. Greg is also worried about him, along with Thomas. He's been sitting beside Percy keeping him company since we got back yesterday, and I can't imagine how heartbroken he'll be if Percy is gone. I do check on him regularly and he is breathing, so that's a good sign, I think. I'll write again if something happens.
Percy finally woke up! He started by making all these groaning noises but was eventually okay. Thomas kept trying to hold back his tears, and he told Percy how worried he had been for him. Percy gave a small smile, which gave me a very warm and comforting feeling. Me and Greg went to talk to him, and he was relieved to see that Greg was alright, as he thought he might've killed him because of his little stunt, but Greg said not to worry about it, and move on. I asked Percy if anything had happened while he was out for the last few days, and he did say that he had some disturbing dreams, but he didn't want to get into specifics. Thomas then filled him in on everything that had happened, and Percy was worried for the others down at Brendam. Now that I think about it, maybe we should send an engine or two down there to try and find that diesel. I talked it over with the other engines and crews, and it was decided that James would go. He got a consist of a flatbed in front for protection, followed by a coach, a van, and finally a brake van. We all wished him luck before he set off.
Well, it's been quite a while since James left, and we haven't heard anything from him or his crew. I forgot to mention earlier but we also gave them a radio so they could get in contact with us, but once again, there's been nothing from them. Edward is starting to get concerned about the red engine, and he told us that he maybe should've gone with him. Thomas and Percy told him that James is a strong engine, and he'll pull through.
Well, this is a shock. We kept waiting for about another hour, when we heard some noises coming from up the branch. Suddenly, there was a loud clang near the junction, and the noises stopped. Bob, Ted, and myself hopped into Thomas' cab, and we went to investigate. We pulled up to the junction and we couldn't believe what we saw. Sitting just before points, was a very beaten up Gordon! He seemed to be out cold like Percy was. He also had a bloody nose, had a chuck of his face missing, and was in very bad shape. The clang we heard was his front bogie coming off the line. We realized we needed a crane once again and that we should've brought the one from Callan with us, and I don't think any of us are willing to go all the way down there just for a crane. But then again, it was the only crane we knew about, so we may not have a choice. Duck volunteered to go get it, so we'll have to guard Gordon until he gets back.
It took about 2 hours, but we finally heard the familiar whistle of Duck, and he thankfully had the crane! We quickly got it set up and put Gordon's bogie back on the track. We put him into the goods shed which is now starting to get filled, and I noticed Percy with the most haunted look on his face staring at Gordon. I walked over to him and asked if he was okay, and he said in a soft hurt voice, "Was this how I was?" I responded with a pained yes. Percy didn't say anything and just looked down at his buffers. After that, I decided to go and rest in Percy's cab to keep him company. After I got comfortable, I started to think of what we should do next. Maybe we should just make a break for the Mainland at this point, as every day, we either lose engines, or they get more and more injured. The only engines we have left are Thomas, Edward, Gordon (who might not even be alive), Percy, and Duck. We still haven't heard from James, and we have no idea what happened to everyone else down at Brendam, so by this point, we're really risking ourselves when we should just let the professionals handle this, which brings me back to that diesel. He might be working for the military and was sent onto the island to help evacuate and find survivors. But considering he's been missing for quite a while now, I'm wondering if he's been dealing with the Germans at Brendam, or if he's been taken prisoner too.
Suddenly, we all heard the sound of a helicopter above us, and we couldn't believe who it was, it was Harold! He landed in the yard near the engines, and everyone was overjoyed to see him! Percy and Edward were a bit scared though, they thought they saw his remains at Dryaw, and Harold explained that what we saw was a new helicopter the owner had just bought a week before the attack. It was faceless but it looked strikingly similar to Harold. Percy and Edward breathed a sigh of relief hearing that. We asked him how he hadn't been blown up by this point, and he explained. He was up at Ffarquhar when the attack started. He heard several explosions in the distance, but there luckily wasn't any Germans coming near Ffarquhar, so he was safe. The next day, his pilot got his engine going, and he took off into the sky. He made sure to always be keeping an eye out for enemy helicopters, so he stayed low to the ground to keep a low profile. He soon made his way to Knapford, and it was totally destroyed. He thought that since this place had been bombed and destroyed already, that it would be safe to stay here. His pilot thought to just be extra safe, that they should head down to the airfield at Dryaw, and Harold agreed. They soon landed and were horrified to find the faceless helicopter on fire! His pilot found a fire extinguisher and put the fire out as quick as he could. Once the fire was put out, they were finally able to rest. The next day, they took off again, and they made their way down the Little Western to try and find anyone, but since we would've been down at Elsbridge by this point, we were long gone. He did find traces of us, like the smashed buffers at Arlesbrugh, and the giant hole Duck almost fell into. Harold and his pilot decided to spend the next few days at Callan as Harold was starting to run low on fuel, and his pilot needed to find some. For the next several days, his pilot would go out and find any fuel he could, and eventually, Harold had a full tank again! He took to the sky's again today, and decided to go along the Mainline, and that was when he found us.
After he was finished, I had an idea. Now that we had a helicopter with us, we could use Harold to our advantage. I went over to his pilot, and told him about what happened down at Brendam, and I asked if he could fly Harold down there from a high point to limit the noise the Germans would hear. He said it was risky, but Harold said he would be alright, and seeing the look on Percy's face made him even more determined. So, it was agreed. Harold would set off in about half an hour as by this time, it was around 5:00PM, and the sun would be starting to set soon, so it would limit how much the Germans would be able to see Harold. When the time came, Harold took off. We obviously had radio contact with his pilot so we will be able to get information from them, so I'll write in here again if we hear from them.
Well, we got something! Harold's pilot got us on the radio, and he said that there was more than we were expecting. Harold's pilot told us that from what they could see, all the engines had been moved to the very back of the docks. They also saw James crashed in a siding, so that explains what happened to him. Finally, we got our answer about that diesel, he is working for the military! Harold and his pilot could see that the diesel, the military, and the Germans were in the middle of a gun fight! Men were being shot down left and right! So they quickly decided to get out of there before any Germans noticed them. Now we're waiting for them to get back, and I just can't believe what's going on down there.
Well, I'm not really sure what we can do now. We could try and equip Harold with some guns or something, but where the hell would we get machine guns? We might just make a dash for the damn bridge in the morning at this point, as if we go down to Brendam, we'll either end up like James, get captured, or killed considering all the gun fighting that was going on. Maybe if I have a good rest and think all this over, I'll think of something we can do, but I highly doubt it.
