July, 25. 1998.
So, we actually woke up early this morning to get ready for Brendam. Some engines don't want to or can't go, so Thomas, Toby, Daisy, Donald, and Oliver will stay behind. While us, Percy, Diesel, and Barry will go. Duck isn't happy about Diesel coming, but I told him to play nice as this isn't the time for arguing. Since some engines had more than 1 lamp from their train before the mist dropped, we gave extra lamps to other engines that didn't have any. After that, we set off down the branchline; hopefully Edward and the others are alright.
We pulled up to the Vicarage Orchard to see if Trevor or Jem Cole were there, but there was no sign of them. We decided to worry about them later, as Brendam is our priority. Now, there's this 3 way bridge just a little further up the line; there's a river next to it and well, that's where we found Trevor, he had drowned in the river beside the line. I noticed Jem Cole's hat floating in the water, and that told me where he was. We felt bad for them, but continued on.
We didn't see anyone in the abandoned Suddery Harbour, so we didn't bother checking it. There was also nothing heading up the line towards Lower Suddery. When we arrived there, we found a signalman named Peter in the signal box. He told us that when the planes started dropping the clouds of mist, he saw Edward reversing down the line with a passenger train heading straight for Barry! He quickly switched the points just missing a collision! A moment later, Gordon rushed past with his express. The next day, Barry went past heading back towards the docks. About an hour later, BoCo rolled casually past heading towards Wellsworth. Not that long later, BoCo raced by the box heading backwards with Murdoch chasing him! Lastly, Barry raced by once again leaving the docks.
This information gave us some bad news, that meant Murdoch was still at the docks somewhere, so we had to be extra careful. We thanked Peter, and continued on. As we entered Upper Brendam, we saw Salty sitting in the goods shed! We were excited to see him, but he told us that the docks weren't safe and we had to leave immediately. We told Salty that we would be alright, and continued on our way.
When we pulled in, it was silent. No sign of any engines, no sign of Murdoch. We decided to spilt up. Barry would stay at the entrance of the docks in case anyone would happen to leave so he could tell them to stay at Upper Brendam or go to Wellsworth. Us and Percy will check the main dock area. While Diesel can go check the Claypits. We slowly and carefully entered the docks, incase if Murdoch was nearby.
We made it into the main area, and there was no sign of anyone. Duck then remembered Cranky! We went to see if he was alright, but obviously not. We all felt like such bloody idiots, until we noticed a big blue express engine smashed into the back of a goods shed like how Barry said. Percy broke down in tears, but that was the least of our troubles.
We all suddenly froze as we heard the sound of slow deep puffing coming closer, and closer. And what rounded the bend made me almost fall out of Duck's cab; it was Murdoch! His face looked just as horrifying as Henry described! I threw open the regulator, and we charged out there as fast as we could; but the beast was hot on our tails!
We saw Barry still sitting at the entrance, and we told him to make a run for it! He did, but instead of leaving the docks, he charged into it! Murdoch didn't care about Barry, and continued on after us! We raced past Salty and he was shocked! I then had an idea, I blew Duck's whistle long and loud to make sure Peter would hear us. Thankfully he did, and he sent Murdoch onto the loop-line that would eventually connect up to Maron. We all breathed a sigh of relief, as we made our way back.
As we got back, Salty was relieved to see we were alright. We asked if he wanted to come to the docks with us since Murdoch was gone, and he agreed. We decided to check the Claypits. Percy said he would try to find Barry, so we let him go. We pulled up to the junction, and Erick got out to switch the points.
As we headed down the line, we didn't find anyone, but that was soon to change. We finally arrived and everyone was there safe and sound! We told them Murdoch was gone so we could leave, and they were all very relieved. As we made it back to the docks, Percy and Barry were nowhere to be seen; suddenly, Percy came charging through the junction bunker first yelling at us to run! That was when a now infected Barry came charging through after Percy! BoCo who was at the front of the second consist gave chase! The rest of us followed suit.
Everyone picked up speed as we charged down the branchline; we saw BoCo up ahead but Barry and Percy were out of sight. We then heard BoCo shouting that they were heading for Wellsworth, so we continued on. As we were approaching the Orchard, we heard a loud crash coming from up the line, and we all feared the worst.
We pulled up near Cronk Scrapyard and we saw Percy had crashed in a siding and had landed in a pile of scrap with Barry standing right in front of him! BoCo went and charged at Barry and started to fight him off; us, Edward, and Salty coupled up and we managed to pull Barry away from the saddle tank. While this was going on, Diesel went to fetch the breakdown train from Wellsworth. Suddenly, we heard 3 familiar whistles coming closer, and in came Henry, Stanley, and Neville! They ran-round behind us and helped us pull Barry away! Eventually, we dragged him a fair distance, and with the help of the 3 extra engines, we managed to pull him up the hill and bashed him through the buffers of the shed at Suddery! After that, we made our way back to the scrapyard, and found Diesel re-railing Percy; once he was back on the track, we went back to Wellsworth.
Once we arrived back, we filled the others in on what happened; Thomas was really glad that Percy made it out alive. After everyone got settled in, Edward, BoCo, and Salty told us their stories.
Edward's Story:
Edward was at Suddery with his passenger train when a plane dropped a cloud of mist! He blew his whistle, and raced away backwards towards Brendam. As he was about to reach Lower Suddery, he saw Barry heading straight for him! Luckly, he got switched onto the other track before there was a collision. He quickly got to Brendam, and went into the shed with Salty and BoCo. They saw Gordon rush in before he crashed into the back of the harbour shed! He jumped ahead and told us that after Barry raced away, he and BoCo raced towards the Claypits while Salty fled the docks! They stayed there until Diesel showed up earlier.
BoCo's and Salty's Story:
BoCo said he was resting in the shed when he heard the commotion with Barry and Salty! After Barry raced past, Salty came and joined him in the shed shortly before Edward showed up.
Suddenly without a warning, Edward yelled, "WE FORGOT ABOUT BILL AND BEN!" He quickly raced out of the shed and back down the branchline! Everyone was shocked; no one had ever seen Edward freak out like that before! Henry and Neville said they would go after him. We wished them luck before they took off after the blue engine. We all took a moment to process the situation that just happened before Thomas spoke up saying that there was someone else here. We were all confused until we heard an all too familiar whistle followed by an engine puffing out of the rear of the yard. There, with infections but still alive, was James!
