We decided to stay at the Ironworks a little while longer to get some shuteye. I know the others are probably worried about us, but oh well. We should probably go check in with the others but since we're so far from Wellsworth, we thought it would be a better idea to continue down the Mainline. The soldier who we finally learned his name as Sam, had tried to get in contact with his general, but sadly, no luck. After we got turned around and coupled up in front of Percy, we set off.
We soon arrived back at the siding where Murdoch crashed, and he was gone; Paxton's train however was completely destroyed! We now had a problem, we had no clue where Murdoch was now, so we would have to be careful.
Well, our plan for continuing on was just screwed up, as when we got off the branch, we heard a familiar whistle, and Henry with a train of coaches stopped next to us! He was relieved we were alright. We caught him up to speed on what happened and asked him he'd seen Murdoch. He told us that he and the others had seen Murdoch pass by Wellsworth late last night heading in the direction of Knapford, but he and Edward hadn't seen him at all as they went to collect their evacuation trains. He told us that the general was waiting for us at Wellsworth for if we were to come back, so after thanking him and wishing him good luck, we set off back for Wellsworth.
Once we arrived back, the general was indeed waiting for us. He greeted us with a whole-hearted smile, and congratulated all of us on our escape. He then told me and Erick that there was still 1 last evacuation train to take, and we had been scheduled to pull it. Once the 3 of us were ready, we started the journey to Knapford.
Once we arrived, we found the coaches already waiting at the platform for us. I backed Duck up to the coaches as the final remaining passengers climbed aboard. Once the guard blew his whistle, we set off on our journey. We had barely left Knapford when we heard a distorted whistle coming from behind us with the fast puffing of a big engine getting closer and closer. Erick then screamed in panic and jumped in front of me to pull Duck's throttle fully open as Murdoch was behind us! I almost fell out of the cab as Duck quickly started to pick up speed and the passengers started screaming in fear as Murdoch got closer to the coaches!
We raced through Henry's tunnel but after we got through it, Murdoch was right next to us! Erick then threw a large piece of coal which caused Murdoch to brake and lose pace with us! As we approached Crosby though, that was when it all went wrong. We got switched into the yard and before we could stop, we smashed into a line of trucks Dennis had shunted and came off the rails! I was thrown from the cab and landed hard on the ballast somehow not breaking anything in the process. The passengers started to get out of the coaches and tried to run but failed as Murdoch grabbed several of them with his tendril and ripped their bodies clean in half! He was about to approach Duck when we heard 2 whistles coming towards us, and there were Percy and James! They charged at Murdoch and started to fight him off, but there was no use as he was much too strong. Just before Murdoch was about to kill Percy, Henry came racing in with a flatbed in front and smashed Murdoch off the track as he'd been over a set of points, but Murdoch wasn't done yet; He used his tendril to grab Percy's buffer and started pulling him in closer! James tried to pull him back but it was no use! Henry's driver then pulled out a gun and shot at the tendril snapping it in half allowing James to pull Percy clear of the beast! Henry's driver got a little closer, and shot Murdoch several times in the face, finally killing him. We all breathed a sigh of relief as Percy and James' crews came to see if we were alright. Thankfully I was alright other than some major scratches on my arms and right leg from smashing onto the ballast, but as for Erick, it seemed that he had been one of Murdoch's victims. I fell to my knees when I saw his upper torso lying on the ground as Percy and James' crews tried to comfort me. As for Duck, he wasn't in great shape either; his buffers were broken, his paint was very scratched up, and his face was covered in scratches from flying pieces of wood. There was no crane nearby so Percy rushed back to Wellsworth to fetch the one we had. After Duck was back on the rails, we made our way back to Wellsworth.
Once we arrived back, the general was waiting for us and he apologized for what had happened to us; everyone felt sorry for Erick's passing. Percy shunted Duck into the shed as he looked very shaken up while I went to talk with the general. I asked if we were to be leaving the island now, and he said that we would be leaving until the military rounded up all the men behind this whole thing that are still on the island. We arranged for all of us to leave in small groups of about 3-4 engines to be on the safer side incase any more of those "things" show up. Since I couldn't drive Duck myself, I was asked to stay in Duck's cab. Me and Duck got pared with Donald, Oliver, James, and Toad; Donald and James would be pulling both Duck and Oliver along, and we would be the first group to leave. We said our goodbyes and set off on our journey to the Mainland.
While we travelled, I decided to write a lot in this journal to get caught up to speed, but after we passed Gordon's hill, that was when I heard Toad screaming from the rear of the train! I looked back to see a familiar Caledonian twin charging up behind us as Douglas was getting closer! Donald and James started to go faster as their wheels pounded the rails! We thankfully managed to gain some distance as James' driver pulled out his gun again and started shooting at Douglas! Donald yelled at James' crew saying that we might be able to get Douglas back to normal but James' crew yelled back saying how Douglas was too far gone, and needed to be killed; Donald was having none of it and his brakes suddenly slammed on as we sped through Abbey! Douglas passed us and Donald yanked forward hard snapping the coupling between him and James before switching onto Douglas' track and pushing him forward and out of sight! James' brakes slammed on and the whole train came to a stop; everyone stayed silent as we suddenly heard a loud crashing sound coming from up the line and decided to investigate. We kept getting closer as the sound continued over and over; we then found out what it was, Donald was in a small siding smashing Douglas against some buffers trying to get him to snap out of it! James yelled saying we had to leave but Donald wasn't leaving without his twin; suddenly, Douglas broke through the buffers and smashed head first into a tree letting out a loud roar before going quiet. This was followed by silence, but then, there was a loud sound of flesh which was one of the most disgusting things I've ever heard in my life. Suddenly, there was a groan, and covered by layers of blood was Douglas! Although, he wasn't the same; his eyes were gone, and he had several red marks all over his face. Donald started to tear up in both happiness while also being upset at seeing the state of his twin. After a few minutes, the second group of engines consisting of Thomas, Percy, and Henry pulled up beside us shocked to see what was going on. Luckily, Donald was able to pull his twin back onto the rails while Douglas was still trying to speak under all the blood and such; after that was all sorted, we decided to just take Douglas to the Mainland and have him tended to there.
The rest of the trip was quiet, and it got me thinking about many things as I sat on Duck's cab floor. Considering how much we've been through and had to survive through already, I'm honestly shocked that we're still here. I'm still very upset over the loss of Erick, but at least he's in a better place now, and he'll always be remembered as the great man he was.
Shockingly, we found nothing heading up the line towards Crovan's Gate, but when we pulled into the yards, we found a huge surprise! We found Harvey, Rheneas, Rusty, Sir handel, and Duncan! We were shocked to see them all; Harvey, Rheneas, and Rusty greeted us warmly, while Sir Handel and Duncan just stared down at their buffers crossly. We asked them what happened to them and Rheneas told us that he, Rusty, Duncan, and Sir Handel had been here since the mist was first dropped, he then began his story.
The Narrow Gauge engines Story:
Rheneas and Rusty were in one of the other sheds that had doors. Rusty was asleep, and Rheneas was just waking up. Rheneas had seen Skarloey at the platform with a passenger train along with Bear pulling a train of flatbeds. Over in the yard, Peter Sam had collected a line of trucks to take up to the slate mines. There was suddenly the sound of a plane above the main station which was then followed by the plane dropping a pretty large cloud of the mist above the station! Skarloey blew his whistle to get the passengers in the coaches just before the mist dropped on them and Skarloey took off! Peter Sam raced backwards past the sheds and they hadn't seen either of them since. None of the Narrow Gauge engines have showed up either, so maybe they're all hiding up in the hills or something. As for Rheneas and the others, they stayed in the shed as a workman came and shut the doors to keep them safe until a few days later when Harvey arrived with a works unit coach and several workmen who had come from Vicarstown. They opened the doors so the little engines could get out of the sheds and were brought over to stay in the works shed where they had all been ever since. They had seen Neville and BoCo with their evacuation trains and had a quick chat with them before they left for the Mainland. Edward and Henry had passed through with their evacuation trains as well and saw them heading back afterwards with Neville and BoCo.
After they finished, we told them that we were all supposed to evacuate the island for the time being, and luckily for us, there was a crane nearby along with some flatbeds so we could take the Narrow Gauge engines with us. Harvey moved the flatbeds into place while Percy brought over the crane. As we were getting the little engines onto the flatbeds, we saw the other groups of engines pass by heading for the Mainland; they saw what we were doing and called out good luck as they passed! Just as we were getting Sir Handel set, we heard a whistle as Duke came racing in! He told us that we needed to get out of here because he was being chased! We were all confused until we heard a distorted whistle coming closer, and in came Peter Sam, but he was now infected! One of the workmen swung the crane arm around knocking Peter Sa on his side just before he got to Duke! We luckily had an extra flatbed and got Duke onto it. He also said that Skarloey, Bertram, MightyMac and Freddie had all been killed by Peter Sam. We fell silent as Duke was situated on the flatbed. Once everything was set, we finally started on our last leg of the journey to Vicarstown and the Mainland.
While on our way there, I realized that several engines were still unaccounted for, and I decided to have a talk with the general once we reach the Mainland. I'll write in here more later as I'm extremely tired from writing and my hand is killing me so badly, god this hurts.
