A Duck in Red Mist | A TTTE AU

An Untold Past

An Untold Past

Apr 29, 2026

July, 30. 1998.

I woke up a little earlier than everyone else and went to look over the town of Killdane just as the sun started to rise, it was a nice view, and it really calmed my nerves. It took a little while for everyone to get up, but once we were all up, all us crews were getting the engines ready.

We had just gotten all the engines steamed and fuelled up when we heard the sounds of helicopters, trucks, and a deep slow puffing coming closer to the area. We all stood in shock as Murdoch rolled into the station, luckily not noticing us; I had my hand on the regulator while Greg had his hand on the machine gun. Suddenly, one of the helicopters spotted us and proceeded to call out to the others while dropping a cloud of the mist on us! We luckily managed to escape the cloud as there wasn't much that came out of it, guess they're running low on the stuff. Murdoch was quick to notice us too as we charged on down the mainline with the 9F after us!

Murdoch was quickly catching up fast, Henry was our main source of power to keep away from him, and I could tell he was being pushed to his limits. Greg was continuing to fire towards Murdoch and the helicopters which was slowing them down thankfully. I used a radio I got from the military saying that we were being chased and needed backup, to which they set out right away!

Once we were approaching Kellsthrope I could see them coming! They started to fire at the helicopters taking them all down! So now it was just Murdoch left to deal with. The general said he and his men would take care of the people in the helicopters while we take care of Murdoch, to which we agreed. We continued to gain speed which thankfully got us farther away from Murdoch! Soon enough, we were approaching Vicarstown and we had quite the distance from Murdoch, but I knew we couldn't let him get off the island so we would have to derail him or something. We charged through the station, and I noticed some fuel tankers in the yard. I applied Duck's brakes and the entire consist screeched to a halt as Greg quickly changed the points just as Murdoch rushed past us! He smashed into the tankers causing a massive explosion that rocked the area! When the dust settled, we looked over to where the train had been, and now there was nothing but a flaming crater. We had a moment of silence for our 9F, before we made our way back to Barrow.

When we got back, everything seemed normal. All the men behind this whole thing were in custody, but what was shocking was the sight of D261 and D199 sitting in a siding with a military truck sitting on the track blocking their way. We quickly found out that they had both contributed to this whole ordeal and would be locked away for quite a long time. After a bit of time, one of the soldiers brought over a man who looked very distraught and angry. The soldier told the man that if he didn't tell the engines why he was the one behind this, he would put a bullet through his head. The man proceeded to introduce himself as Jason Laurier. He took a deep breath, and explained.

April, 17. 1992.

Jason and his family were on a trip to Sodor for a week; they had enjoyed themselves, and were looking forward to going home. They were waiting at Vicarstown for Gordon to arrive with his express to take them along with several other passengers to the Mainland. A few minutes later, Gordon pulled into the station. Jason and his family boarded the train and Gordon was just about to leave when they all heard a whistle in the distance. Suddenly, there was a huge smash from the back of the train! The coaches were smashed and broken, while the screams of several passengers could be heard all around.

A little while later ambulances had arrived to take the casualties away, and 3 of them, were Jason's wife, daughter, and son. The engine who crashed into the back of the train was Murdoch with a goods train. He was heavily damaged, and was taken away to the works for extensive repairs.

After the accident, Jason was so upset over the loss of his family, that he wanted revenge on Sir Topham Hatt and the entire railway. So for the next 4 years, he started creating a chemical that could cause mutations, and this would later be the chemical that he used to transform Murdoch into the creature he was.

Then, he met up with his brother who owned an airfield with a bunch of planes and helicopters, and asked if he could use them. He agreed, and shortly after, got a huge group of people together to help with the attack. Lastly, he put a modified version of the chemical he made into mist which turned it red. This version of the chemical would cause you to cough badly, and eventually would cause many red skin infections that could either kill you, or partially infect you, and this counted for engines too.

A while later, he met D261 and D199 on the Mainland, and they told him of their past grievances with the engines on the railway and wanted revenge as well, so they decided to join him. Then he told us something that made us very happy, he told us that after the 2 diesels decided to join him, he injected them with a cure for the mutations that the red mist could cause!

We demanded to know where some of the cure was so we could give it to all the engines that had been infected that were still alive, and one of the soldiers gave us a suitcase which had the cure inside it! They said they found it inside one of the helicopters after the air shooting. The soldier walked over to James who was sitting nearby and injected him with the cure; he started screaming as he felt his face start to change, a few seconds later, his mutation went away! Everyone including James cheered with the success of the cure, and we proceeded to inject the other engines and rolling stock who had mutations.

Just then, a man in a black suit with a top hat walked up, and we were relieved to see Sir Topham Hatt again. We asked him what happened after we last saw him and he said that he went to explore the town near Elsbridge for a while, but while he was there, 2 of the group members found him and took him to be held hostage until the military found him after one of the gang members confessed to where he was being held.

After that, we put the engines in a set of sheds and left to go find somewhere to sleep for the night. Hopefully we'll be able to go back to Sodor soon now that we have a cure.
