Here's a brief summary of what happened, all jokes aside:
So Hitler had these puppet states that would bend to his will without question, such as Vichy (northern France) Norway, Finland etc. These states were completely taken over by fascists.
Luckily Hungary wasn't one of them. Until 1944.
It was because we wanted out.
Of course, there's a reason why Hungary suddenly went, 'whoops we're on the wrong side!'
You see, Germany had started attacking the Soviets and taken our troops along. After failed invasions... the Soviets were the ones eyeing our borders. Fearing we didn't have a chance against their armies we arranged secret meetings with the other party.
Negotiations with the Allies didn't go too well, tough.
We were found out.
Hitler, scared that we might get out of the Axis like Italy did, immediately invaded Hungary and turned us into a puppet state, forcing their Nazi regime on us.
Shortly after came our 'saviors', the Soviets, but that's a story for another time.
