Exalted - A Stranger in Olympus

Shattering

Shattering

May 13, 2026

The sound of the statue shattering had been deafening. The shock in the room was thick, hands raised to mouths. Nothing like this could ever have been expected, because nothing like this should ever happen. The university had always doubled as a place of worship. A place to devote yourself to Creation. No one had ever doubted that, how could you? The being that had created everything. That still continued to create even now, the greatest of all the gods, full of love and beauty. Yet right now, the very symbol of all life was currently crumbling before their very eyes. The fear of the very implications were settling in the minds of some, others were just gripped with fear. Chrona ran past them all as they tried to figure out what to do during such unexpected events.

Well...maybe not unexpected to all. One in the crowd already knew this was likely to happen. One already knew where Chrona would turn, where she would go, what she would do and how it would all turn out. One already knew why the statue had broken, why the books were burning. One already knew exactly whose voice it was that Chrona had heard say 'okay'. They already knew it all...well...maybe not exactly all, but enough. The issue with seeing the future is that there are so many futures. So many possibilities, and the further you go the more the possibilities branch out. But this person had seen them all, they had digested this information and considered it from every angle. They had meditated on their actions and the impact they could have on these events. They had considered the facts as they knew them, and they had made their decision.

The head teachers had recovered from their shock first, one lifting a hand to start a spell, another rushing forward to catch Chrona. She would be detained, she would be questioned. She would likely never see the light of day again. For these events meant one clear thing to the rest, she was not on the side of Creation, on the side of hope and love and beauty. No, it was clear she was on the side of Destruction. The being that had raised armies, caused wars, razed whole lands to nothingness since the very moment they had gained consciousness.

Any who sided with them must be stopped. The endless war raged by the primordial being, who had named himself Dinistr, could not be allowed to gain another fighter. Another being who could supply them with intelligence. Especially one as strong as Chrona. So she would be imprisoned, if lucky. If not, executed. For even a god can be killed. They may not die as easily as a mortal, but that certainly did not mean it was impossible. So the teachers moved, she would not escape, none would let it, none would want it. Even if they did, none would be strong enough to fight against them anyway.

Or at least, that is what they thought. For the one who knew, definitely did want to stop them, and more, they were strong enough. They had remained at the back of the hall this whole time, loitering near the doors. Waiting just in case this was the timeline that the spells had shown. Not that anyone else even suspected their power. How could they? She was so well known for not being great at magic. She had felt the pity those around had for her lack of talent, her lack of skill. She knew they all wondered why she hadn't just quit. However none of this bothered Sia, for she had a plan, and today it came together.

What the rest did not know, is that the first time Sia had accidentally used Time magic, before she came to the university. The spark of ability that got her referred, that one spell had shown her everything. In that one moment she had seen all the possibilities, she had seen all the answers. But more, she had seen all that was. She looked forward at Creation, she looked backwards at Creation and found them both lacking. Sia knew that Destruction was wrong, she had seen the past, she knew their actions and it terrified her. But the future, now that could not be decided on the fears of the past, and she knew what she had seen, what she had learnt. Sia would trust her choices, because she believed it would lead to a better future. So as Chrona ran past, Sia stepped forward, between her and those following. She muttered a word and the door slammed closed behind her. She could already see the surprise on the faces before her.

How could she be so strong? She had never shown any talent in the entire time she'd been here. But the answer to that was easy, when the spells you are learning are incredibly hard to get right, all that means is that they are incredibly easy to get wrong. No one would doubt she was struggling when everyone was struggling. What reason was there to ever suspect her? Sia had seen the future once and it had taught her everything.

She has seen the possibilities where she had shown her skills, where she had graduated, where Chronos had congratulated her. Where she'd left, made friends she'd loved, married and enjoyed her life to the fullest. She'd seen the possibility where she was called back here, where she was consulted on the very events happening around her now. She had seen it and she had decided against it. So she lifted her hands, raised them to the sky and screamed the spell she had been planning for centuries.

Sia smiled. She was content with her decision. She wished Chrona well. A part of her regretted not telling the younger woman more, preparing her more. But she knew she couldn't have, she'd seen that. However, she had said it would be okay, she'd reassured Chrona as much as possible. Sia knew one thing for certain, everything would be okay. Of course it would, they had said so. Her spell activated, no one would be able to follow Chrona after this.
