The pale morning light slipped through the hospital window, falling softly across Viki's bed. The room was unusually quiet except for the faint beeping of machines and the distant footsteps of nurses moving through the hallway.
Azaan sat beside Viki's bed, his fingers wrapped carefully around the edge of the bedsheet. Even after spending the entire night awake, he still refused to leave. Every few hours, he would quietly step out of the room and return with healthy meals, fruits, or medicine for Viki.
At first, Viki didn't know how to react to Azaan's sudden kindness.
No one had ever taken care of him this gently before.
But because of his shy and reserved nature, he didn't show much emotion. He simply accepted everything in silence while Azaan continued caring for him without expecting anything in return.
Viki secretly found himself watching Azaan more and more.
The way Azaan smiled warmly… The way he asked if Viki had eaten… The way he stayed beside him without complaining…
All of it slowly began softening Viki's guarded heart.
Still, Viki convinced himself that Azaan was only helping him because he was his teacher.
Nothing more.
A few hours later, Azaan walked back into the hospital room carrying bags filled with fruits, nuts, and homemade healthy food. A small smile appeared on his face the moment he saw Viki awake.
But Viki only glanced at him quietly.
Azaan's smile faded for a second, though he quickly hid it.
Soon, a nurse entered the room with discharge papers in her hand.
"You can leave now," she said with a gentle smile.
Relief washed over Viki's face immediately.
Meanwhile, Azaan felt strangely disappointed. Once Viki left the hospital, there would no longer be a reason for him to stay beside him like this.
Even so, he helped Viki pack his things carefully and supported him while walking out of the room.
After finishing the discharge process, Viki turned toward Azaan.
"You've already helped enough," he said softly. "I can manage from here. Thank you… for everything."
Those words made Azaan's chest ache slightly.
Still forcing a smile, he handed Viki the bag of food and nodded.
But even after stepping away, Azaan couldn't stop himself from following behind Viki quietly, making sure he was safe.
Outside the hospital, Viki tried booking a cab several times, but none were available.
Seeing this, Azaan walked toward him immediately.
"If you don't mind… I can help you get home," he said carefully.
Viki hesitated for a moment.
Normally, he would have refused.
But Azaan's worried expression made it impossible to say no.
Finally, Viki gave a small nod.
The two of them began walking together silently.
To break the awkward silence, Azaan spoke first.
"You should sleep properly from now on, sir."
Viki looked at him but didn't answer.
Azaan kept talking anyway, trying his best to make Viki comfortable.
After a few minutes, he asked quietly, "Do you… have many friends?"
Viki's expression changed slightly.
But instead of answering, he simply kept walking.
Azaan immediately realized he had touched a sensitive topic, so he stopped asking questions and changed the subject instead.
Soon, they finally reached Viki's house.
Viki turned toward Azaan slowly.
"This is my home," he said softly. "And… thank you again."
Azaan smiled brightly at those words, but the smile slowly faded when he realized this was probably where they would part ways.
He stepped back slightly.
"Then… I'll leave now."
But before Azaan could turn around completely, Viki suddenly spoke.
"Wait."
Azaan froze instantly.
Viki looked away awkwardly before speaking again.
"You can come inside."
For a second, Azaan couldn't believe what he had heard.
Then a genuine smile spread across his face — brighter than ever before.
And together, both of them stepped inside Viki's house.
