Shebuel is happy to have seen Aachen and to have escaped the mad professor, but then he finds a piece of paper in his pockets which is not his. By the way: In times before we had computers or mobiles, we had to use so-called typewriters to write letters, which were sent by an institution called the Post or Mail, which, these days, was state-owned, so jobs were safe -- but I'm losing track. Anyway, Shebuel apologizes in a letter to Prof. Batt and sends the paper back, when he suddenly becomes aware that he knows the handwriting. So he gets the letter and the paper back. He seem really touched.
