"Disaster," Derek repeated. He rubbed his chin and looked around the room. "So was Diane telling us what happened, what she witnessed, or was she warning us about something that is going to happen?"

"Either way, that was amazing!" Tate declared. "That has to be the most coherent, definitive EVP we've ever recorded. That wasn't just a few words, it was a whole conversation. It's incredible!"

"What if it was a warning, though?" Bob asked. "Shouldn't we listen to her? I mean, the lady literally pierced the veil between life and death to send us that message."

"That's true," Nora agreed. "But I think we owe it to her to find out exactly what did happen. If she's telling us about what she saw or heard, we need to investigate more."

"We'll be cautious," Derek declared. "This place is obviously dangerous, we knew that coming in. Now we've been warned. So we take every possible precaution."

Every precaution, it seemed, besides leaving.

"No one goes anywhere alone," Derek continued. "Not anyone, for any reason. Zac, if you're floating between groups, the groups meet for you to switch off. Skye, I want you glued to an adult at all times. And keep your brother informed of who you're with and what you're doing. No one goes anywhere Bob hasn't inspected and approved."

Nods all around. Skye's face did something odd when Derek singled her out for extra precautions. Zac didn't know her well enough to interpret her expression, but something about it was soft.

"What's the plan?" Amy asked. "Do we operate as usual or do we change things up?"

"Change it up a little," Derek said. "I know we usually have you go off alone at this point to get a read on a place, so we know where to focus our attention. We're not doing that. Zac, you'll be with her. Bob, I want you to take Tate, and have a look at whatever components of the heating and air system you can reach without going into the basement. Maybe take some temperature readings at random points. We need to know if there's a verifiable, physical explanation for the cold we all felt. We did all feel that, yeah?"

More nods from everyone.

"I got it on camera, sort of," Zac informed them. "You can see the vapor from your breathing when you talk on the footage. It stopped when we got into the hallway."

"Thanks for that," Derek said. "Keep doing what you're doing, Zac, you're a lifesaver. I should have had us recording the temp with handheld units and I did not think about it."

"We were not expecting anything this… extreme," Tate said. "I'm gonna hand out the handheld thermometers. We'll check the rooms as we go and record in our notepads."

"Good idea," Derek agreed. "Nora, I want you and Skye in here with me on cameras. I'll monitor our teams. You two divide up the other screens and sing out if you see anything… well, anything."

"Okay," Skye said.

Zac figured it was probably a good idea to have her where she could watch everyone, just in case. He'd be with the psychic, so in theory he could protect her.

It wasn't as good a plan as simply getting the Hell out of the clearly very haunted death trap of a building, but he doubted anything could convince them to leave when there was so much tantalizing evidence of life after death lurking around every corner.

Skye didn't seem upset, though, so she obviously had things under control. Zac knew she wasn't shy. If she wanted these people to leave the building, she would find a way to make them do so. She'd wrangled a group of men who hated her for existing. A few friendly ghost hunters were nothing in comparison to the Hunt Initiative.

So Zac followed Amy through the building, utterly unworried about leaving his "little sister" behind.

Amy walked the hallways, pausing at various points to describe any psychic impressions she felt. Most of it was vague, describing feelings that made sense in a hospital: echoes of worry, fear, and pain. At one point she retched, and apologized to the viewers for being dramatic.

"That was odd," Amy told both Zac and the future viewers, "I'm not usually physically affected by psychic resonance. But I felt the strongest sense of nausea just now."

Zac shrugged and stretched his own senses out. He didn't feel anything 'extra,' but he'd never been particularly sensitive to ghosts. He didn't smell anything odd, so it was unlikely she was reacting to a chemical in the air.

"Let me just check the temperature here," Amy said, noting their location and the temperature in her pad. "It's a few degrees lower than it was in the other hall," she declared. "That could just be a draft. Do you see any, I don't know, mold? Weird stains?"

Zac panned the camera around and shook his head. This bit of hallway looked just the same as the rest. He pointed to a nearby door. "Maybe there's something in there. You were closer to that room when you reacted."

"Yeah, let's see if we can open this," Amy muttered. She wiggled the knob, and the door creaked open slowly.

The psychic leaned into the room while Zac filmed her. She turned to the camera to announce, "It looks like this was an office."

Zac stepped into the abandoned office and panned the camera around to show a small room with a desk, a chair on three rollers with half rotten upholstery, and several filing cabinets. Zac wasn't sure whether the room had been an administrative office or if patients had been treated there. He couldn't spot any obvious reason for Amy's earlier reaction. It just looked like an old, abandoned room.

"Hm. The impression I gain from this room is… solemn," Amy reported to their future viewers.

She paced the confines of the room, gently touching the surface of the desk.

"I don't feel any trace of nausea now," Amy continued, "but I do think this room was the source."

Amy moved to the center of the room. "I don't believe there is a singular presence here," she explained, "not a ghost or a spirit as most people imagine them. This room most likely collected traces of the various patients and doctors who passed through, each one leaving a little thread of emotion. It's like the dust on that desk, built up over years. I simply breathed in too much at once and it overwhelmed me for a moment."

Zac supposed that explanation made as much sense as anything else.

"We should move on," Amy decided. "I need to get impressions of the second floor, too."

Zac nodded and lowered the camera. Before they could leave the room, Zac's radio beeped. He held it up and hit the button.

"Hello?" Zac asked.

"Zac, you and Amy need to get back to the base now," Derek said. "Skye's missing."
