Our Love Our Respect

Chapter 10 — The Morning After Happiness

Chapter 10 — The Morning After Happiness

May 27, 2026

The rain finally stopped sometime near dawn.

Bangkok slowly awakened outside the café windows.

Soft morning light slipped quietly through the curtains while the city stretched itself awake after a storm-filled night.

Inside—peace still remained.

Ploy had fallen asleep leaning against Ananya’s shoulder sometime after midnight.

One hand still loosely intertwined with hers.

As if even in sleep, she was afraid of letting go.

Ananya sat quietly watching her.

And for the first time in a long while…

her heart felt painfully full.

Not from sadness.

Not from fear.

From love.

The overwhelming kind.

The kind that silently changes the meaning of ordinary things forever.

Ploy’s hair fell slightly across her face.

Ananya smiled softly before carefully moving the strands away.

Such a small action.

Yet it carried so much tenderness.

Ploy stirred slightly.

“Mmm…”

Ananya froze immediately.

Then slowly—Ploy opened her eyes.

For several sleepy seconds, she simply stared at Ananya without speaking.

Then softly—

“You’re still here.”

The sentence hurt beautifully somehow.

Ananya smiled gently.

“Where else would I go?”

Ploy’s tired expression slowly softened into something warm.

Safe.

Then suddenly she realized something.

“Oh my god.”

“What?”

“I drooled on your shoulder.”

Ananya burst into laughter instantly.

“You did not.”

Ploy covered her face dramatically.

“This relationship has become humiliating.”

“You survived.”

“Barely.”

The heaviness from previous days lifted slightly again.

Not fully.

But enough to breathe.

Enough to smile.

Enough to pretend the world outside could wait a little longer.

—

A little later, Ananya stood inside the tiny café kitchen trying to prepare breakfast.

Ploy watched suspiciously from nearby.

“Why does the toast look emotionally damaged?”

Ananya frowned.

“Cooking is art.”

“That bread is suffering.”

“You’re very rude for someone getting free food.”

Ploy laughed softly again.

God.

That laugh had become home.

Eventually, they sat together near the window eating terrible toast and slightly burnt omelets.

And somehow—it became one of the happiest breakfasts of their lives.

Because happiness was never really about perfection.

Only comfort.

Only presence.

Only the right person beside you.

—

After breakfast, soft music played quietly from Ananya’s phone again.

An old Tamil melody filled the café gently.

Ploy listened carefully.

“I like this song.”

Ananya smiled.

“My father used to play it every Sunday morning.”

Ploy looked at her softly.

“You miss home today.”

Not a question.

Ananya nodded quietly.

“A little.”

Then after a pause—

“I wish you could see India with me someday.”

Ploy’s chest tightened immediately.

Someday.

Such a hopeful word.

Such a dangerous word.

Still—she smiled softly.

“Will your city like me?”

Ananya laughed quietly.

“No.”

Ploy gasped dramatically.

“You answered too fast!”

“You’ll steal everyone’s attention.”

Ploy leaned closer proudly.

“So you admit I’m beautiful.”

“You’re impossible.”

“And loved.”

Silence.

The beautiful kind.

Ananya looked down shyly while smiling helplessly.

Ploy’s expression softened instantly seeing that reaction.

God.

She loved making Ananya blush.

Maybe too much.

—

A few minutes later, Ploy suddenly stood up and extended her hand seriously.

Ananya blinked.

“What are you doing?”

“Dance with me.”

“What?”

“There’s music.”

“At eight in the morning?”

“Love doesn’t follow business hours.”

Ananya laughed uncontrollably.

“You’re insane.”

“And you’re avoiding the question.”

The song continued softly around them.

Ploy kept her hand extended patiently.

Waiting.

Always waiting gently.

Finally, smiling helplessly, Ananya placed her hand into hers.

Warmth spread instantly again.

Ploy slowly pulled her closer carefully.

Respectfully.

Like she was holding something precious.

The morning sunlight wrapped softly around them while they moved slowly across the empty café floor.

No perfect dancing.

No dramatic romance movie moment.

Just small laughter.

Stepping on each other’s feet accidentally.

Teasing.

Smiling.

Living.

And for several beautiful minutes—they forgot everything else.

No parents.

No fear.

No future.

Only this moment.

Only love.

Only happiness.

Ploy rested her forehead gently against Ananya’s.

Breathing slowed.

Hearts softened.

Then quietly—almost like a confession to herself—Ploy whispered,

“I think this is the happiest I’ve ever been.”

Ananya’s eyes filled instantly.

Because hearing that made her both happy…

and afraid.

Ploy noticed immediately.

“You’re crying again.”

Ananya laughed weakly.

“I hate how easily emotional I become around you.”

Ploy smiled softly.

“Good.”

“What?”

“It means your heart feels safe with me.”

That sentence entered Ananya’s soul quietly.

Deeply.

Because it was true.

And maybe that’s why love became so frightening too.

Because once a heart finds safety—losing it becomes unbearable.

Suddenly—Ploy’s phone vibrated loudly on the table nearby.

Both girls froze immediately.

Reality returned too quickly.

Ploy walked slowly toward the phone.

Her expression changed the moment she saw the screen.

Father.

The warmth inside the café disappeared instantly.

Ploy answered carefully.

“Yes?”

Silence.

Then her father’s cold voice echoed faintly through the speaker:

“Come home. We need to discuss your future.”

Ploy’s heartbeat dropped painfully.

Because deep inside—she already knew.

The storm they feared had finally arrived.
