Chapter 7

“Every second that we were apart was agony,” Fox said, gaze cast away to avoid Rose’s watery expression.
“Oh, Fox.” Rose hardly dared to breathe.
“There is no version of me that exists without you,” he continued. “I’ve never been mad at you. All I’ve ever been is in love with you.”
“Fox,” Rose started, stopped and took a breath. She tried again, “I shouldn’t ask–”
“Ask.”
“Kiss me?” she whispered.
And he did.
Fox’s warm, soft lips pressed to hers.
Their lips met over and over again, growing more feverish with each press of lips and tongue. Fox felt so real against her, a steady presence while her mind warred with everything that had happened. There had been so much pain and loss in such a short amount of time that she felt inches away from shattering into a thousand pieces. But each press of skin, of lips, of hands, grounded her. Reminded her that even through all of that, she still had Fox.
