<Note: I am writing this while really, really sleepy and dealing with waves of Sleep Inertia still pushing against my frontal lobe - so if I write nonsense...you know why.>
I know I should be advertizing the comic - so please buy one if you can. Ads take forever to make so I just re-use the old one. (: Oh, and leave a review if possible - they really help to fight the alogyrithm gods in Amazon.
This phone call happened last week (I think), and it demonstrates how little some people - especially government officials (and doctors, don't get me started on the doctors) don't understand, or CARE, how to communicate with people like me...like us.
In my papers reads that I have memory issues, and I always state it in the calls too. I have notes ready so I remember what I am supposed to say, and all they would need to do is to accomodate that and not do everything this person did in the call. I also reserve specific amount of time for calls so I know I won't be too worn out after.
None of my personal accomodations help if I am not given SPACE to use them.
So this is a note to people on the other end:
-Slow your pace. Fast talking is hard to process.
-STAY ON TOPIC, do not yap about information that isn't important to the receiver.
(In the case of this call, I heard information about what 50,60,and 70yo people need to know when I am in my 30s. THIS ISN'T HELPFUL.)
-Allow moments to write notes down WITHOUT YOU TALKING ON TOP.
-Ask questions, and LET US ANSWER.
-ONLY REPEAT THINGS IF ASKED.
-Don't assume information has been processed - ASK. AND WAIT FOR ANSWER.
-Silence doesn't mean you are on fire, it means you are failing at a conversation. And phone calls are ALWAYS supposed to be a CONVERSATION, not an info dump. Info dumps can always be an email.
-Mind the time, because not everyone can take long ass calls.
-Do better.
And yes, I had to fight sleep for 2 hours and hated every second of it.
Trying my hardest to cope with a rare neurological sleep disorder some people don't even believe exists and yet manages to ruin my life.
