“So, guys. Should we go now?” Ley excitedly says towards the group.
“Message him,” Jia turns to Joshua, firmly informing him.
In a single second, as Jia instructed him, Joshua sent a telepathic message to Headmaster Grimm saying that they’re ready for transfer.
After Joshua sent the message, the group led Ley to the hidden room of the Weird Club, where inside could be seen a black circular base with a metallic border.
Smooth walls, no windows, just a simple room with what looks like a teleportation pad or a teleporter. Ley assumed as he observed the circular pad with a metallic border on the floor.
“Come,” Jia says to Ley, as she enters the pad with Joshua and Rain.
“Oh,” Ley exhales, stepping onto the pad per Jia’s instruction. “The others aren’t coming?”
“Rui, Sean, and Xander will stay so they can watch over the room and so the school doesn't get suspicious," Jia answers.
Faced with Jia’s answer, Ley complied with the group in silence as he stepped his way inside the teleportation pad with Jia, Rain, and Joshua.
“You can close your eyes if you want to,” Jia said to Ley, while the rest of the group who stayed silently waved their goodbyes.
In an instant, as the teleportation pad activated—no lights, no sounding sequence, just a simple one-second blink—the group was transported from Goltear Academy to a place where they could meet Headmaster Grimm.
Huh…? No lights, no sounds, no immediate warning that it’s about to be activated? Isn’t that some kind of poor design…? Ley questions. But right now is probably not the appropriate time to question that…
“Welcome, Ley Rych.” Headmaster Grimm welcomed Ley, his deep voice filled with subtle excitement and joy. “You may not know me, but I am Headmaster Grimm.”
“It’s finally nice to meet you, Headmaster Grimm," Ley greeted back politely. “But may I ask, where are we?”
“We’re inside the power of Triggers,” Headmaster Grimm said proudly. “We are in a separate dimension outside the world.”
“Triggers?” Ley said confusedly.
“I’m surprised you don’t know what you are, or what we are," Headmaster Grimm emphasized. “Especially when your family are all triggers."
“My—” Ley hesitated, knowing the idea of talking about his family has been something he’s always avoided, now especially with a stranger. “My family?”
“I’m sorry if all of this is too much to handle.” Headmaster Grimm softly and gently apologizes.
“Oh… N–No, I’m fine. I was just surprised," Ley assured the headmaster. “So, please continue. I am very curious about this place and being a trigger.”
“To give you a proper tour, we must get out of this room first,” Headmaster Grimm said, gesturing at the room with only a teleportation pad inside.
“This room is our transportation room; only a handful of people, like the group, can use it via headmaster Grimm’s permission," Jia leaned towards Ley, informing him.
As they exited the room, Ley was faced with a university-looking hallway with its refined tile floor and smooth walls. Amazed by the sight, he quietly followed Headmaster Grimm and the three as they led him to their first destination.
But before they could reach their first destination, Ley spotted rooms with tables and chairs, figuring out that those were probably classrooms.
And after walking the hallways and passing through classrooms, they finally arrived at their first destination—crowded with tables, chairs, and people in school uniforms along with the noise they made.
“Welcome, Ley. To Trigger Academy," Headmaster Grimm proudly declares, showing the students in their natural behavior. “This place is created to hone our powers into mastery so that we don’t hurt people accidentally.”
“The classrooms filled with tables and chairs we passed by earlier are where the students get their real-life education," Headmaster Grimm added. “Now, we’ll show you where our students practice their powers into mastery.”
Having introduced the students, they led Ley to the most important section of the academy, the Trigger Biome, once again filling the tour with nothing but semi-uncomfortable and awkward silence.
“This is the room called Trigger Biome," Headmaster Grimm announces, having entered the empty stadium-sized room with Ley and others.
The room felt like an empty world waiting to be filled with color, and the only reason it didn’t feel like an eternal prison was because of the watch rooms with small windows.
“Who are they?” Ley asked, having the people inside the watchroom in his right eye's vision.
“Those are Triggers who possess the powers of the generation of each element: fire, water, air, and earth.” Headmaster Grimm answers, then signals Rain to join the three people inside the room. “This room is a byproduct of my technological invention that allows the room to use a trigger’s powers through biometrics.”
“I see. By pressing their hands onto the hand scanner, the room gains access to their powers of fire, water, earth, and air generation, which allows it to generate biomes of your choice. Am I correct?” Ley said continuously.
“That… is correct," Headmaster Grimm said unsurely. “You must be very smart if you figured that out quickly.”
“I see. Thanks, I guess.” Ley responded. “But I’m not that smart.”
“Don’t be fooled by it, Headmaster. Ley figured out everyone’s powers during our first meet," Jia mentioned gleefully, making Ley let out a soft smile.
“Uhm. Can I ask about my family?” Ley asked softly. “How do you know they’re triggers?”
Headmaster Grimm made sure to gently and softly inform Ley of his deceased family so as to not upset him in any way possible, so he told him through a story.
He began the story with the curse placed upon humans called the Black Curse, which affects some of the population of the world and gives them an extra organ called the Black Orb.
The Black Orb has two components, the processor and the container. The processor converts the human negative emotions into a black mist, which the container contains.
When the container is filled with black mist due to excessive conversion of negative emotions, the human undergoes a process called "trigger awakening."
And because the container is broken due to overfilling, the mist that it contains gets leaked onto the outside world.
The human eventually reabsorbs the black mist and is then processed again by the processor, but because the container is broken, the body is forced to contain the mist and convert it into a superpower.
The Academy was created by Headmaster Grimm over a hundred years ago. Its purpose was to navigate the danger and unknown that the powers of triggers bring into mastery and perfection so that they could never hurt another being.
The Academy is a worldwide organization that has a branch in every corner of the world, watching and observing as more triggers begin to awaken.
The Rych family are no exception to this observation. Especially as a family whose every member each possesses an incredible prowess.
Leyanna Rych, mother of Rychs, is a powerful telekinetic whose potential had never been measured and now never will be known.
Larrie Rych, father of Rychs, whose power gives him enhanced vision, allowing him to even briefly grasp the spiritual world.
Francine Rych's power is accelerated thought processing, giving her the ability to think a thousand thoughts per second.
Andrea Rych, the parallel visionary, is the only trigger whose powers are able to see through the barriers that separate the other dimensions.
Lus Rych, the enhanced human. A trigger whose powers give a great deal of superhuman strength and incredible body autonomy durability.
“And you, Ley Rych. As a member of a family filled with powerful triggers, you are also blessed with incredible prowess.” Headmaster Grimm ends the story. “You are the first person—no, the first trigger—to have multiple powers.”
“I am?” Ley asked doubtfully.
“Yes. No other Trigger in this academy possesses multiple powers, not even me," Headmaster Grimm answered. “Though, I am quite sure that you are more curious as to why you’re here.”
“I… I am," Ley said sensitively.
“You are here because you saw them. The agents of the organization that calls itself White Triggers," Headmaster Grimm said gently. “They are a global force dedicated to killing us, triggers, simply because we exists as people with superpowers.”
“You’re here because I want you to join the academy’s cause of bringing down the White Triggers," Headmaster Grimm declares. “And because your family sent me a letter requesting that you, Ley Rych, be trained in the academy, for your safety.”
After hearing this, Ley turned his head down and closed his eyes, unable to look at anyone as he feared others would be able to see the tears almost about to fall in his eyes.
“Will you generate me a biome filled with buildings?” Ley requested calmly, quickly opening his teary eyes away from the group as he moved his way onto the very center of the room.
Upon Ley’s request and in the quiet peace, he stood in the center of the room. Headmaster Grimm turned to Joshua, who sent a telepathic message to the people inside the watch room.
By fragment and fragment, the room of complete whiteness slowly became a biome of a city filled with generic skyscraper buildings.
It started with the empty two-lane roads aligning themselves as they bore the shape of a cross, an intentional choice for a biome where Ley stood in the center.
Then after ten seconds the road materializes smoothly, and the buildings start to materialize, working their way at the bottom, eventually reaching the top to mark their completion.
But despite seeing the amazing sight of all of his surroundings materialize as he stood at the center, Ley couldn’t help but be alone in the sadness and grief he felt.
So, in an attempt to free himself from the void that exists in his heart, Ley raised both his arms up, positioning himself in a t-pose as he faced his palms at the ground.
In a second, his raised arms began to tremble aggressively, but so did the buildings that were surrounding him.
But even though his excessive use of his powers caused physical pain, he managed to disconnect every building from its root.
Then as he faced his palm upwards, forcibly levitating the heavy buildings all by himself, he persisted because no amount of the physical pain it gave could compare to what he felt.
And the trembling stopped. Ley moved his hands, bending his fingers three times as he made a clenching gesture, using his telekinesis to crush every building into tennis-sized balls.
All of his feelings collided in each attempt he tried to crush every building into a ball. Beginning with the first that created an outburst of air as the building became suddenly and forcibly compacted. Then the second, and finally the last.
Ley vowed that no tears that came from sadness would ever fall from his eyes again, yet he broke it again, not because he wanted to, but because his body needed to.
The people around Ley who witnessed his display of power showed a stunned expression except for Headmaster Grimm, whose face lit up, showing great satisfaction and excitement.
After the biome was destroyed by Ley, the buildings and the roads on the floor slowly faded back into their original form of complete whiteness.
Now refreshed of any previous negative emotions, Ley wiped his tears off and silently and quietly marched back up to the group.
“I’m fine now. I’m very sorry for my outburst; I just didn’t expect my family would still be taking care of me even now," Ley said, smiling, trying to hide the sadness in his eyes and face. “And I would love nothing more than to bring justice for my family.”
“Thank you for joining the academy and its cause, but I am afraid that the academy can’t help you with controlling your powers," Headmaster Grimm said regretfully. “But I hope you’ll still accompany Jia and the rest at Goltear, just in case something comes up.”
“Of course. Headmaster Grimm," Ley responded.
“I’m afraid that is all there is to the tour," Headmaster Grimm said informatively. “Rain and Joshua will take you back to the teleportation room so you can go back to Goltear.”
As they ended their meet at the biome room, giving farewell to Headmaster Grimm, the three went back to the teleportation room and got teleported back to Goltear, where the rest of the Weird Club greeted their arrival.
Headmaster Grimm and Jia, whom he made sure stayed with him, conversed, still standing at the edge of the biome room, near the door.
“Did you think it was smart of me to not inform him of your mission at Goltear?” Headmaster Grimm questioned Jia. “You saw what happened earlier and how powerful he was. Do you really think I was wise for not telling him?”
“I believe so, Headmaster Grimm. His early display of destructive power and reaction to just the news of his family made him behave that way, so it would be a smart decision not to tell him at the moment," Jia said confidently. “He may be powerful, but there are just some things we can’t force in order to achieve victory.”
“Thank you, Jia. I order you to observe him and inform me whether he’s ready to know our mission and the identities of the agents living at Golden Pillar Heights," Headmaster Grimm said firmly. “An illogical behavior from him would surely halt our mission, so we must hold on to the fact that he’s been living with agents of the opposing organization, the one that killed his entire family.”
