A Pirate’s Gemstone

Chapter Three: Change of Winds.

Chapter Three: Change of Winds.

Jun 01, 2026

The hospital room all cozy and cold from the introduction of the two women tha Cade honestly didn't plan to get to know, grew a little more friendly. He of course has has no plans to stay long but maybe these two can be useful. Or at least one of them.

The second young woman, presumably the same age as Amber, perhaps a little younger, speaks up in which he could match the tired rasp to her, “Yeah! And the doctors have been taking good care of you! And we’ve been here since… uh well… today. Kinda had classes yesterday and the doctors called us here for today. The doctor couldn’t find any family of yours to contact since we didn’t know your name.”

This other woman had lighter brown skin than the first. She had colored mahogany brown hair, that was more in a messy curl of a ponytail than the bun she probably attempted on the way to here and purple highlights through it. Her eyes were more of a hazel than her friend’s dark brown. And her mouth was currently being covered by her friend who wanted him to stop panicking therefore covered it for her. His grey eyes could do nothing but look wearily between the two women who talked to him so easily. Unlike the fear he was used to, they seemed suspiciously nice. So that ruled out his theory of this being a captive situation. Which only raised more questions rather than answers. Because where the hell was he exactly?

“We tried to contact your family, but honestly, we didn’t know who to contact for you.” The first woman said before she smiles, “I don’t know if you can say much, but do you at least know your name for us to contact someone.”

Cade considers the question for a moment before quietly admitting, “Cade.” It wasn’t much for them to fear his name and certainly not enough for them to threaten him by. Yet these women sound like they wouldn't know his name anyways.

He slightly adjusted to try sitting up a little better, though everything in his body protested his movement as did Amber at first. But Amber, seeing his instance to sit up, just sighs then starts trying to help guide him to sit up gently and helps support him. Somehow this stranger’s help was the kindest he had ever come across in all his years of piracy. And more than likely the last time he’ll ever accept help like this if he can help it.

But before he could answer, the door opens and the woman with what looks like trousers and some sort of short and baggy tunic comes in to help him with his IV bag, “We’ll have to ask him some family questions, ladies. We want his relatives to know his whereabouts. Its procedures to alert some kin of his injury.”

The captain watching the nurse change the bag then hold her clip board readily just softly mutters, “I… don’t have… a family. Friends… left.”

That quieted the room. Pity mainly. Some concerns but mainly just pity. The main one being questions on who would help him get back on his feet if not some sort of temporary help.

“Well we think it would do you some good to at least be staying with someone while you’re healing. Do you have anyone else we can contact? Anyone at all?”

That just cues another shake of his head. The nurse shares a look over to the two other women in the room and gives something close to a  small frown and Cade just looks at his hands. It was becoming clearer to him now that this had to have been some sort of witchcraft. That princess. She did this to him. Maybe she’s tied to some dark magic that sends him to fluorescent ceiling boxes with weird wands and boxes. The exact sorcery he’s heard tall tales and legends for from washed up men and loose-threaded heads of the insane men he’s thrown off board time and time again. Yet none of them happened to mention it was in the hands of royals. Otherwise he would've stolen a power like that quite some time ago. And yet technically he did, but it was unfortunately just used against him.

Whatever this was, it was clear to him that this obviously  had to be some type of witch craft that brought him here… but how to get himself back home was the real question. He still has people who depended on him at his position of captain. At least he hoped he did. He was possibly in a whole other universe. Not to mention he was truly more alone in this strange place than he ever was on a pirate ship in the middle of the ocean. With no one to help him get back on his feet as captain of the Stayerd Mary.

The second woman, that he learned was Juniper, raised her hand a little guiltily, “I mean, I was the one who hit him… he can stay with me for now. I can take care of him.” She… was offering to let him, a no good killer pirate, stay with her?

Amber looked at her friend, “Juniper, you can barely take care of a plant without immediately killing it the next day from lack of water or sun. Or too much of both. How are you alone gonna take care of a whole human?”

Juniper, since that seemed to be her name, quickly protested, “Hey! This is different! Besides, plants are hard to take care of!”

“And humans aren’t? He’s not a doll, June. You can’t agree then go and forget bout him.”

Juniper almost immediately crosses her arms halfheartedly to defend herself, a little offended by the jab at her, "I know that."

The nurse just sighs at the small, necessary banter and states, “We’ll only agree if he’s ok with it. We’d need his permission for an arrangement like that. And even if he agrees perhaps a statement so we won’t have wrongful deaths”

Though Cade saw something else. A world he knows absolutely nothing about and he’s being offered a place to stay. This was basically his ticket for free housing in this new world. Something he would have trouble affording if he said no. So against his better judgment and despite the thought of staying with strangers seeming a little weird, he gave a small nod and agreed to the suggestion. Perhaps this Juniper woman would be someone who could work in his favor in this new world.

The nurse gives a reluctant nod  “Alright, then I’ll get those discharge papers.”
