= SARAH POV =
I was playing on my phone when I heard footsteps approaching the door.
I put down the phone just as the door swung open and looked up to find Ms. Jun smiling at me while holding a familiar stack of papers.
“Once again, I am so glad you returned. I hope you didn’t get sick from getting caught in the rain?” she asked as she sat down across from me on the other couch and put the papers on the table with a pen.
“I was lucky enough to make it to the shelter. After I had a bath, I felt much better; thank you,” I said, deciding not to go into detail about the spa treatment.
“I’m glad to hear that. Now if you could just look over the application and sign on the dotted line, I’ll be happy to put you through a brief orientation, and we can discuss your schedule for your first day” Ms. Jun smiled as she explained.
“I’m a bit parched, would you like some water or coffee?” she asked as she rose to her feet, her eyes still on me.
“I umm… I’m good,” I said, not wanting to impose.
“No need to be so shy, we are all practically family here” Ms Jun chuckled.
“You know what? I remember you ordered a Latte when you came here to work. I’ll be right back with a Latte for you, and I’ll see if I can get Amber to throw in an espresso; it’ll pick you right up.” Ms. Jun grinned and strode out of the room, leaving me alone to fill up the contract.
My eyes lingered on the space where Ms Jun had been. Was it just me? Or had she been looking at me a little too long each time, leaning in a little too close…
Maybe it was just me. Aside from the hand thing the other day, she hadn’t said or done anything explicit… Yeah, why was I noticing all these things? It must be all in my head.
I sighed and ran my hands through my hair, my hair tie coming apart in my hands. As locks tumbled around my shoulders, I tried to calm myself down, re-tying my hair nervously.
But my heart was pounding at the very thought of her hands on mine the other day, and maybe it was the compound feeling of Chris having been so distant lately… I was longing for a gentle, soft touch from hands that wanted to hold me, and not just control me.
The idea of Chris being the one, running her hands over mine…. Her long fingers stroking the pen…her hands running across the surface of the couch across from me…
Dirty thoughts about Chris be gone!
I swear I needed to calm my fleeting heart down.
