My boyfriend is a secret billionaire

It's time to keep my promise

It's time to keep my promise

Jun 06, 2026

I signed those written documents that very night without reading the fine print. In my desperate excitement to escape the heavy golden cage of the Roy estate, I simply didn't care.

The very next morning, I packed a single suitcase and left for my medical studies abroad.

I had made a strict vow to myself the moment my plane took off. I would keep my head down and blend completely into the background.

I didn't want to be treated as Sanjay Roy, the multi-billionaire heir.

I just wanted to be Sanjay, the guy fighting with everything he had to save lives. Because of that, I never told a single soul about my powerful family background or my immense wealth.

Money changes people in the worst ways possible.

It twists genuine friendships into cold, calculated business transactions, and I had already seen enough of that toxic lifestyle inside my father's house. For years, I chose not to talk to anyone outside of my classes.

I became a ghost in a white lab coat, studying until my eyes burned and surviving on endless sleepless nights.

But during those long, grueling years of our medical program, I met one person who changed everything.

Kalix.
Kalix was a brilliant, hyper-intellectual guy who naturally gravitated toward me.
With just a small initial gap between us, our bond rapidly increased until we became absolute best friends. He didn't study oncology like me;

Kalix was a psychology doctor. Because of his deep understanding of the human mind, he was the only person in the entire world I could truly trust with my real identity.

He knew about the psychological chess player my father was, and he understood the terrifying, invisible traps my family layout possessed.

He stuck by my side through the hardest semesters, helping me navigate the mental toll of my isolated life.

When I finally completed my residency, I braced myself for my father's inevitable move.

As per our agreement, I returned home and went to him directly, asking for a state-of-the-art facility where I could actually practice oncology.

To my absolute shock, Martin Roy didn't argue with me or throw a tantrum.
He simply nodded his head and handed me the keys to the brand-new Grand Roy Hospital.

It completely terrified me.

In my father's ruthless world, a normal, cooperative attitude is the ultimate danger sign.

When he acts aggressively or shouts, you at least know exactly what he's planning.

But when he is perfectly calm and generous? That means the trap is already set, the steel jaws are wide open, and you've already walked right into it without realizing.

Two years quickly passed under those conditions.

Under my constant leadership, Grand Roy Hospital thrived, and my personal work in oncology started gaining massive national recognition.

Because I trusted Kalix completely and knew I couldn't navigate my father's shadow alone, I invited him to join me at the hospital. I created a special psychology department office just for him.

Working together daily, our work and friendship increased even more. While I was with him, the heavy loneliness of my childhood completely vanished.

I loved our life just the way it was—our days full of busy schedules with patients, our brief break times spent talking in our offices.

But the background anxiety never truly left my mind. And today, the fear I had been running from finally arrived.

"You're pacing again, Sanjay," Kalix said, leaning casually against the doorframe of my private office during a break.

"This entire hospital is yours, but no one here even knows who you really are. What is going on in that head of yours?"

I aggressively rubbed my temples, staring out the glass window at the sprawling city skyline below.

"It’s my dad, Kalix. You don't know him. He doesn't just do favors out of the goodness of his heart. Martin Roy never forgets a debt. And right now, I owe him big time."

Kalix opened his mouth to reply, his sharp psychologist's instincts already analyzing my distress, but his voice was instantly cut off by the demanding buzz of my phone vibrating on the desk.

My heart violently dropped into my stomach. The glowing screen displayed a single, heavy name.
Dad.

I answered it immediately, my throat tightening up.
 "Dad?"

"Come home. Immediately," his cold, flat voice commanded from the other end.

The line went completely dead before I could even draw a breath.

The fear in my heart was sudden and paralyzing. The ticking time bomb of our original agreement from five years back was finally about to explode.

I rushed to the ancestral mansion, my chest full of a suffocating tension.

The drive felt like a complete blur of flashing streetlights.

When I finally walked into his oppressive, suffocating study, my father was sitting silently behind his giant mahogany desk.

A thick, heavy stack of legal documents rested right in front of him.
He didn't bother to greet me.

He just slowly looked up, his sharp, predatory eyes drilling directly into mine.
"Have you kept your word, Sanjay?" he asked coldly, his voice echoing in the quiet room.

"Did you fall in love with any girl while you were away studying?"

"No," I replied instantly, locking my jaw. I had kept my mind completely locked on my work, successfully sealing off my heart from any distractions.

"Okay. Good then," my father muttered, casually adjusting his expensive gold cuffs. He tapped his fingers against the thick stack of papers on his desk.

"What about the second condition?"

I took a deep, steadying breath, standing as tall as I could.
"As per my promise, whatever you ask me to do, I will do it."

A rare, terrifyingly sharp smile cut across my father’s stony face.
"Really?"

"Yes, Dad. I keep my word."

My father slowly pushed the massive, heavy stack of corporate documents across the desk toward me.

 "Fine. Take over the business."

The room went completely silent. The words echoed in my ears, making absolutely no sense to my brain. I stared blankly at him, my mind short-circuiting.

"What?" I stammered, my voice cracking under the tension.
"Can you... can you repeat that? I think I heard you wrong."

My father’s brief smile completely vanished, replaced instantly by his usual commanding, icy glare.
"Take over Roy Enterprises. Hand over your hospital duties to someone else. You are running the family business now."

The shock hit me like a physical blow. I sank slowly into the chair opposite him, staring blankly at the contracts.

"Dad... but you said I could follow my dream!"

My dad leaned forward, a calculating glint in his cold eyes.

"Yes, that's what I am saying. I let you follow it for seven years. Now, it's my turn."

Panic flared deep in my lungs, paralyzing my ability to breathe.

"Dad, I can't do that. Please, Dad," I pleaded, my voice lowering as I tried to suppress the rising terror.

"Tell me a proper reason why should I leave. I don't want to leave medicine to be a businessman. I want to be a doctor!"

"Why, Sanjay?" my father replied, his voice terrifyingly calm.

"There is nothing to worry about because your Grand Roy Hospital will run fine without you. I will hire the most famous doctors in the country to take your place.
But look at my position. I have only one heir who can take over the Roy empire. You are the only option I have."

After listening to my dad's words, a chilling realization washed over me.

Yes, my dad was right about one thing—he knew exactly how to convince me, and he had planned this from the very beginning.

He had intentionally let me become a world-class doctor just to waste my time.

If I signed those papers to hand over company right now, all my hard work, my sacrifices, and my dream would be completely wasted.

But I knew my dad.

He never did anything without a backup plan.

He never walked into a room without a solution already mapped out in his mind.

If I stood my ground and refused to sign, I knew he would drop his real trap.

I stared at him across the desk, waiting to see exactly what card he was about to play next.

But a chilling thought suddenly echoed loudly in my mind:

why had my dad let me choose my dream job in the first place?

Was there a dark intention hidden behind his generosity all along, or did he simply want to play with my life?

A man like Martin Roy never did anything out of the goodness of his heart.
Every permission he granted was just a calculated move to set up an even bigger trap.
