Beach Town [Rocky & Jimboy]
“I wanna go kayaking and I’ll also try banana boat, you think we could do island hopping too?” Rocky said, but when he looked around no one else was there, he sighed and walked out.
He walked on the beach, a coconut fell from the coconut tree, he looked up and saw a young boy. “Oops sorry po”
*po is a term that are used for respect in Filipino.
“What are you doing? That’s dangerous you know” he said while looking above the tree. The boy came down and walked towards Rocky. “Are you okay ha?” the boy asked. “Yeah I’m alright, it’s far from me so it’s fine” Rocky responded.
“I’m Jimboy, what’s your name?” the boy asked, “I’m Rocky, I’m from California” Rocky stated as he shakes hands with Jimboy. “How old are you Jimboy?” Rocky asked, “I’m 15, and you?” Jimboy responded and asked. “Ohhh we are the same age, that’s cool” he stated happily. “Where are you…ahmm staying?” Jimboy asked, they walked by the beach while asking each others questions. “Ohh just over there, on that big house” Rocky responded and pointed at the direction of the house he’s staying in.
After a few weeks of staying close together, Rocky fell for Jimboy. He felt the welcoming presence he never felt before, the warmth, the love and anything else he never experienced. A summer romance begins between two teenagers.
At summer's end, one promises to return next year.
“It’s time to say goodbye now, babalik ako promise ko yan” Rocky stated in broken tagalog. He learned the language just so they could communicate well. “I’ll contact you if I have the chance, I’ll miss you guys” he added, a farewell after that.
He promised to return. Promised to come back but he never does.
The other waits every summer afterward.
Many days and nights, a few years and summers had passed. And that friend that was so close, will just be part of a memory.
The Missed Chance was the Promise. A Promise that was broken.
