Translation of the Dutch verses in this page:
"'Oh brother, may I go to Halewijn?'

'Tis all the same to me wherever you go,
As long as you maintain your honour
And wear your crown justifiably'

Then she went into her room
And donned her finest clothes

And she went to her father's stables
And chose the finest steed of all"

It's rather challenging to translate the text in a satisfying way. I'm not even going to attempt to make it rhyme! I also skip quite a few verses, like the ones describing her outfit, in order to improve the pace.

For this page I took a lot of inspiration from a depiction of Johannes Andreae in his study and a bit from the architecture of fougeres sur bievre. I decided to go for a slightly older style of architecture (like romanesqe), instead of the vaulted ceilings, but to use more gothic elements for the moveable parts, such as the furniture and decorations.

An (in my opinion) fun detail is that books were often stored lying down, with the fore-edge facing the outside. Titles were sometimes written on the fore-edge on paper bookblocks, but this comic is set before the use of paper in Europe.
