The Fuhrer stands behind his podium to address the thousands of faces stood before him. On this day Patrice McNulty, the former guard of the regime's largest prison, the district 1 prison, is about to be given the title of vice president of the faced regime.
“A special, special thanks to all of the wonderful faces I see before me to celebrate such a momentous occasion. With the deaths of both Huler Viere and Cyrus Boar over a month ago the regime looked to be facing some tough times, tough times that were to echo throughout everybody’s life. But there was one very special man who acted as my right hand man through it all. Without this man I believe the world as we know it would’ve fallen to complete chaos. Without him District 13 would still be a source of great anxiety for us here in the regime, not to mention his treatment of crossover prisoners from the District 11 jailbreak has been nothing if not exceptional. The revolution has grown significantly weaker, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the man who I am very happy to announce as the new vice president of the faced regime, ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for Patrice McNulty”.
Patrice walks onto the stage with a piece of blank A4 paper covering his face, when he turns the paper to reveal it to the audience a picture of his face is on it, he then moves the piece of paper out of the way to reveal he no longer has a face.
Patrice pushes the Fuhrer out of the way of the podium and prepares to speak to the audience
“Greetings, my name is Patrice McNulty. I had a secret love affair with one of my most notorious prisoners Melanie “the barbarian” Insignia. Together we had a beautiful half breed baby named Timothy who grew up to be a vital figure in the now dead unification group as well as the faceless revolution”.
Guards stop frozen, not sure how to respond to what they’re being told, the fuhrer stands next to Patrice laughing, waiting for him to reveal the trick he used to make himself appear faceless
“I set the dogs on Cyrus Boar but they did not kill him, Cyrus lived on as a faceless for over a month until he was assassinated by the revolution two weeks ago, right where you sit. He lived as a faceless due to an operation discovered by the late Dr Modrok, I too received this operation by the hands of a surgeon who learned it”
The fuhrer points his gun at Patrice and pulls the trigger, but it isn’t loaded.
“Two faceless spies, named Graham and Meagh, got a similar surgery that made them appear as if they had a face; they spent three months undercover as members of the regime. Over 800 of you in the audience have also received the same surgery and sit posed as faced people.” A group of people can be felt marching towards the capital, a group so large the ground can be felt to faintly shake, as they get closer they are revealed to be a group consisting of those that are both faced and faceless, some holding pictures of what they looked like before surgery while others weren’t, at the front was Tim, the disgraced half breed proof of McNulty’s proudest sin. Behind him faced and faceless marched together, sharing hugs, food and handshakes. Many signs are carried, some hold positive messages, some offer their condolences to Alan Caine, some say ‘down with the regime’, some of them hint at the impossibility of telling faced from faceless saying things like “can’t shoot us all”. The most glaring and huge of these signs is a massive banner being carried a few rows from the front, flying way overhead everyone else saying, “face is abstract, character is key”.
The fuhrer calls for the army to be brought in, resulting in Patrice pointing a gun at him urging him to not move. A guard points his gun at Patrice only for the guard next to him, the one planted by Patrice, to shoot him. It was at this moment every faced person in the area realised they had no clue who was faced and who was faceless. That’s when guards started firing indiscriminatorily into the crowd of marchers. Some of the marchers pulled out handguns and fired back, others weren’t lucky enough to have brought any. Patrice drops to the floor following a bullet to the forehead, the fuhrer takes Patirce’s gun from his dead hands and starts firing at his own guards, the army is mobilised in its entirety and shows up at the scene, shooting at everybody in sight including each other. Fuhrer Johnstone's body goes limp, blood escaping his body. Marchers try to run but are shot as they leave. Bodies drop like flies, red blood paints the capital.
The regime is stripped of most of their highest ranking officials. Those who remain work in secret, eliminating anyone they come across for fear they are a faceless in disguise. The capital remains vacant for a few days until the last remaining member of Benjamin's unification group Frenchine joined by a few former revolutionaries burn the capital and toss the corpses left behind by the massacre into the flames. At the end they offered a christian, muslim and jewish prayer for all the departed souls.
The regime was at an end, but so were millions of innocent lives both faced and faceless. The regime ruled for one-thousand years and had nothing to show for it, there were no winners.
