TW: Religious references, religious questioning
It is not my intent to upset anyone who is religious, I am simply writing about some societal issues that I have in terms of people abusing their religious power.

Repent,” they demand. “read the word of the lord,” they say.

They hand us a church and a book and force us on our knees to pray.

You must not sin, you must not judge, you must not get to be free,

Because God in the sky and Jesus on Earth will not bow to you with one knee.

Instead you must bow to them and clasp your hands, begging for forgiveness,

As you fail on this Earth and fail your life as you fall into resistance.

How can we truly know a book written post 2000 years still reads the truth,

When the past has gone and the modern has come to influence the youth.

Women no longer have to follow a man, and people love eating shrimp,

Yet people like to nitpick their verses to bully people with a limp.

Because when you’re not perfect, you don’t fit the standard,

All of a sudden, God appears and tells you you’re abandoned.

Because his kingdom doesn’t accept minorities,

Because they only want people who follow the invisible authorities.

If you’re not a good Christian girl wanting a husband and kids,

Serving the household and making a dinner of roast ribs,

Then you are not worthy for God’s heavenly gates,

And will be forced into the hell that society creates.

If you’re not pro-life, pro-gun, and pro-straight,

Then you are thrown into the unwinnable debate.

These conservatives are dumb, but their words sound smart,

So people believe their bullshit and don’t listen to their hearts.

Because what’s so wrong with loving your soulmate with passion?

It’s not a choice, its not a sin, its not the newest big fashion.

What’s so wrong to having rights to your own body?

You can choose what you want without your mind being foggy.

If its not your life than its not your choice to make,

So what makes them think freedom is something they can take?

Let people be people. Stop using religion against rights.
