The South-Imperial Federation
To the south lies the federation most outsiders misunderstand.
The South-Imperial Federation is often dismissed as old-fashioned.Its kingdoms maintain ancient traditions. Its rulers wear crowns rather than elected titles. Its ceremonies and customs stretch back hundreds of years.Yet beneath this traditional exterior lies one of the wealthiest regions in the world.
The kingdoms of Astoria, Valcrest, Kalmont, Southwatch, and Eldenreach together control vast trade routes and valuable natural resources.
At the center stands the Kingdom of Astoria. Not merely a kingdom. The symbolic heart of the entire federation. From Astoria's capital, emperors, kings, nobles, and scholars coordinate policies that affect millions.
The federation's greatest institution is the Royal Strategic Academy.
Unlike other academies that emphasize technology or military strength, the Royal Strategic Academy focuses more upon leadership, logistics, administration, governance, and grand strategy.
Many of the continent's finest statesmen have graduated from its halls.
Despite its current reputation, the South was once the undisputed master of Eldoria.
Long before the rise of the Four Federations, the southern kingdoms were the most influential, prosperous, and powerful states on the continent. Southern monarchs dictated continental politics, controlled major trade routes, and possessed wealth that rival kingdoms could only dream of.
Many of the laws, diplomatic traditions, and administrative systems still used across Eldoria today originated in the southern courts centuries ago.
Even the mighty kingdoms of the North, West, and East once looked to the South as the center of civilization.
One of the most famous events in Eldorian history further cemented the South's legendary reputation.
Several centuries ago, a devastating plague pandemic swept across the continent.
Cities in the North suffered catastrophic losses.Trade ports in the West became centers of infection.Entire regions of the East were depopulated.
Millions perished.
Yet the southern kingdoms remained largely untouched.
Not because they possessed superior medicine. Not because they had discovered a cure.
Instead, the southern rulers made a ruthless decision.
They completely severed contact with the outside world.
Borders were closed.Ports were shut down.Foreign merchants were expelled.
Travel between the South and the rest of the continent was forbidden.
The policy protected the southern kingdoms from the plague, but it came at a terrible cost for everyone else.
At the time, much of Eldoria depended upon southern exports, including medicinal herbs, alchemical ingredients, food supplies, metals, and other critical raw materials.
When those trade routes vanished overnight, shortages spread across the continent.
Many regions already weakened by the plague found themselves unable to obtain medicine or essential resources.
Historians still debate how many additional deaths were caused by the South's isolation policy, but most agree that the number was enormous.
To some, the South's actions were a necessary measure that saved millions of its own citizens. To others, it was one of the most selfish decisions in continental history.
The debate continues even today.
Yet despite its wealth and traditions, the South-Imperial Federation faces a difficult reality. Now Its military lags behind its rivals. Its institutions struggle to keep pace with the rapid modernization occurring elsewhere.
Its naval forces are particularly weaker than those of the Western Concord and the Eastern Democrate Federation. While the South possesses respectable fleets capable of defending its coasts, it lacks the maritime reach necessary to compete for dominance over the Four Kings Sea.
Its enemies see it as a giant weighed down by its own history. Many believe the South-Imperial Federation has entered a slow decline.
One reason for this stagnation lies in its attitude toward summoning. For centuries, many Southern rulers viewed summoning as a dangerous form of black magic capable of disrupting the natural balance of the world.
Several kingdoms attempted summoning rituals throughout history, hoping to gain knowledge and power similar to that acquired by other nations.
Every attempt was met with fierce resistance.
Powerful religious organizations condemned summoning as heresy.Priests, monks, and spiritual leaders argued that bringing outsiders into the world violated divine law and threatened the harmony established by the gods.
As a result, every proposal was blocked, delayed, or abandoned.
While the North, West, and East benefited from knowledge brought by people from other realms, the South remained committed to tradition.
Many historians now believe this decision contributed significantly to the federation's growing technological and military gap.
But times are changing.
The South-Imperial Federation brought new royal political leadership.
At its center stands a old and unusually liberal king of Astoria whose views differ greatly from those of previous generations.
He has studied the rise of the other federations. has seen how summoning transformed nations.
He has reached a troubling conclusion. If the South continues to follow the same path, its decline may become irreversible.
For the first time in history, the federation is now preparing to conduct an official large-scale summoning.Religious leaders continue to oppose the plan.Temples across the South warn of disaster.
Traditional nobles fear the consequences.Yet the king remains determined.
He believes that doing nothing is a greater danger than taking the risk. And somewhere within the halls of the Royal Strategic Academy, plans are already being made to change the future.
The War of Liberation (One of the most recent famous war)
The event that truly established the Eastern Democrate Federation as a continental superpower occurred only ten years ago.
For nearly fifty years, the republics of Unionvale and Brightfield had remained under Southern occupation.
They had originally been conquered during the height of South-Imperial power, when Southern armies marched deep into the eastern lands and forced numerous smaller states into submission.
For decades, the occupied republics endured Southern governors, Southern taxes, and Southern military rule.
Many believed the territories would never regain their independence.
Then came the Summoning.
When the Earth-born summoners arrived in the East fifteen years ago, they brought more than ideas. They brought knowledge of industry.
Of logistics.
Of modern warfare.
Most importantly, they brought knowledge of firearms.
Within a few years, Eastern workshops began producing primitive muskets, rifled firearms, and field artillery unlike anything previously seen in Eldoria.
At first, Southern nobles dismissed these weapons as curiosities. Many generals argued that no machine could replace heavily armored knights and battle mages.
Three years after the Summoning, the Eastern Democrate Federation launched what would later become known as the War of Liberation.
Its objective was simple:
Reclaim Unionvale and Brightfield.
The first major confrontation occurred during the Battle of Unionvale Plains.Southern commanders relied upon traditional tactics that had brought victory for centuries.
Thousands of armored cavalry charged across open ground, supported by elite infantry and battle mages.
Waiting for them were disciplined Eastern formations equipped with firearms and artillery.
When the Southern cavalry entered range, the battlefield changed forever.
Thunder erupted.
Entire ranks of knights were torn apart before reaching enemy lines.Artillery shattered formations from distances previously considered impossible.
For the first time in Eldorian history, heavily armored cavalry found themselves powerless against something.
The Southern army suffered a catastrophic defeat. Many historians describe the battle as the day the Age of Knights began to die.
The second decisive engagement occurred one year later during the Battle of Brightfield.Determined to restore its honor, the South committed one of the largest armies assembled in generations.
Yet the East had learned many things from its previous victories. Rail-supported logistics, industrial production, modern artillery, and coordinated firearm formations devastated Southern forces.
The result was even more disastrous than Unionvale. The Southern army was forced into a complete retreat.
Brightfield was liberated.Unionvale was liberated.
And for the first time in centuries, the South had suffered a humiliating defeat against a former vassal state.
The consequences reshaped continental politics. The Eastern Democrate Federation emerged as the strongest military-industrial power in Eldoria.
The South-Imperial Federation lost not only territory, but prestige. Many Southern nobles continued insisting that firearms were dishonorable weapons unworthy of true warriors.
The East had changed the nature of warfare itself.Since then, military academies throughout the continent have studied Unionvale and Brightfield as turning points in history.
To Eastern citizens, they are remembered as wars of liberation. To Southern historians , they are remembered as the beginning of the South's decline.
And to every ruler in Eldoria, it serve as a warning: A nation that refuses to adapt will eventually be defeated by one that does.
