Rhea's POV

It was just another Monday for me that started as usual.

But from the moment I woke up today morning, I've been feeling somewhat jittery.

The only other time I've felt this way, was when I almost died during a failed assassination.

So, as a precaution, I took out one of my battle suits, which I hadn't touched in ages, and donned it beneath my professional attire. 

I also had a pair of daggers strapped to my thighs – one on each leg.

Finally, with a little assurance, I reached the school and started my classes.

Though, as time went on, the nagging feeling that something was very wrong, only got stronger.

And just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, that uneasy feeling suddenly intensified by more than a hundred–fold.

Before I could even pinpoint source of danger, the world as I've known it,

was gone.

It was like the end of the world.

Similar to the apocalyptic scenes, described in novels, thousands of ominous–looking crimson portals opened across the whole world, and began releasing grotesque monsters and unholy horrors.

That wasn't all. 

I also saw something materialise right before my eyes, accompanied by a sound akin to that of a bell chime.

[ Emergency quest : Survive the apocalypse

Quest description : Due to the sudden influx of mana , Earth has started to evolve, disrupting it's spatial stability in the process. Using that opportunity, monsters are descending from the dimensional gates with a single goal in mind – Slaughter.

Quest objective : Survive for one hour without dying.

Quest reward : + 5 Levels to every survivor.

Note : After an hour, Earth's evolution will be complete and the rampaging monsters will be pushed back into the gates by the universal system. The gates will then be temporarily sealed – until someone clears them or a gate break occurs. ]

Reading through the information present on her quest window, Rhea didn't waste time wondering why was all of this happening. 

For the sake of her students, she just hoped beyond hope that none of those portals had opened nearby.

But her hopes were soon dashed.

One of the portals was standing right in the middle of her school's playground, releasing monsters beyond her imagination.

Shouting at the students standing there in a daze, to evacuate as quickly as possible, Rhea began running towards the monsters, desperately trying to think of something – anything at all – that could stop them.

But no matter how much she racked her brain for it, the only way she could think of to protect the students, was to throw herself at the monsters and draw their attention away from the others.

So that's what she did...

Wielding her twin daggers, Rhea cut apart her teaching attire since she already had her battle gear underneath. 

Then, without an ounce of hesitation, she leapt through the nearby window, landing directly on the bloody battlefield.

The first thing that greeted her when Rhea's feet touched the ground was the jaws of a six legged monster shaped like an enlarged spider closing in on her head.

Just as the monster was about to bite her head off, Rhea used her unreal flexibility to escape from it by bending her back like a spring.

Missing it's target, the monster stumbled forward. 

Capitaling on the opening, Rhea sprang into motion.

Channeling every bit of her strength through her daggers and aiming them at one of the monster's legs, Rhea made a swift strike, intending to reduce the monster's mobility.

Tunning around to see the results of her handiwork, her expression soon morphed into a scowl.

Even with all her efforts, Rhea had only managed to cut a tiny wound – barely leaking any blood.

"Shit...! It's skin is too thick. It seems I can't pierce them with my daggers", 

Rhea analysed, muttering to herself.

After recovering, the spider jumped at her once again.

With no other choice, Rhea continued to jump around the monster.

 

Despite its enormous size, the spider wasn't even able to touch the hems of her clothes so far.

With her unreal flexibility, practically defying normal human anatomy, she deftly evaded all of it's attacks, infuriating the monster.

After sometime of trying to injure the monster to no avail, she decided to take a risk.

Separating from the monster, Rhea retreated to a comfortable distance. Then bracing herself, she clutched the daggers tightly in her hands, until her knuckles turned white.

*Grrr....*

When the monster saw her standing still without moving, it released a threatening growl and propelled itself towards her.

Just as the it was about to collide with Rhea, she jumped with all her might – using the monster's head as a leverage. Nimbly landing on the monster's back, she clamped her legs around it's body to stabilize herself.

During that stunt, if her timing had been even slightly off, the monster would have caught her by the legs and started feasting on her flesh. 

Fortunately, she succeeded.

Seated on the monster's back, Rhea raised her twin daggers high above her head, before plunging them straight down – into two of the spider's eight eyes. 

*Skrreeeeee------------* 

The monster screeched in pain and started thrashing around to shake her off.

Holding on to it for dear life, Rhea removed her daggers, now covered in a slimy liquid – from the monster's eye sockets and stabbed it's remaining eyes without mercy.

Suddenly losing it's sight, the spider descended into a mad frenzy, shooting it's webs everywhere. It also kept running around in agitation, sometimes crashing into other monsters, adding more injuries to itself. 

As Rhea had already jumped off the monster's back – after wounding it, she was spared from the agony of those crashes.

Shifting her focus from the blind spider, she began her assault on another monster that was now moving towards the students. 

Struggling with it for some time, Rhea finally managed to find an opening to launch her daggers into the monster's eyes, robbing the sight of one more monster.

Like this, Rhea continued to target one monster at a time. Damaging their sight, she made them crash into other monsters, causing more chaos.

But she wasn't entirely unscathed in that deadly dance.

Once, while she was focused on evading the pincers of a scorpion–like monster, another one nearby, managed to swipe it's claws across her back, cutting a deep wound that nearly reached her lungs.

And another time...

as tiredness began to slow her down, she failed to dodge the jaws of a giant wolf. 

The result?

Her left arm was now hanging loosely at her side, after barely blocking the attack.

Even with all her skills, Rhea was only an ordinary human. 

The blood loss and fatigue were slowly catching upto her, making her head spin and blurring her vision.

Her unyielding determination to protect her students, was the only thing still keeping her on her feet. 

But even that...

had it's limits.
