When the day came that Swan was allowed to fly out, she immediately took it, not thinking twice. She flew across clouds, trying to see as much of the world as her sisters did, but the chance to do so was stolen from her too soon.
Man stole her feathers, and Swan was forced to stay by his side, instead of soaring the sky as she wanted to.
She tried to grasp why it happened, and her confusion turned to anger at the mortal. She couldn't do anything, as long as he held onto her wings. Swan feared she wouldn't be able to do anything, forced to be seen as possession for the rest of her life, until traveler from nearby came into the village. Even if traveler feathers were hidden, she could see them. Owl gave back her hope and, in the end, freedom, and she wanted to return the favor later on.
Jadwiga woke up in her bed the next day. She couldn't recall how she ended up back here, since she fell asleep at the kitchen table. Did she sleep walk or did Shivane somehow carried her here? Strzyga tried to imagine swan maiden carrying her and held back a laugh. So she leaned towards the first option in her thinking.
As she checked the day, she felt her yesterday's worries go away, as she realized it was the end of a week. Whenever it was the weekend, Shivane would be able to stay at home, and the two could spend the time together. This time, Shivane was going to use her free days to help strzyga learn various things about modern world by presentation.
Shivane sat in the living room, waiting for Jadwiga to come. It took some time, as Jadwiga's legs would be unsteady in mornings, but she always refused help, wanting to do it on her own. Even if she struggled with a lot of things, she tried to do best and on her own for Shivane's sake.
When she finally got to sit by swan maiden's side, the other was poking the keys on bottom of two connected box. While she couldn't understand what it did, she only knew it could easily break, so she didn't dare to touch it and let Shivane do what she did.
"It's bright…" Jadwiga finally spoke, to get swan maiden's attention. Shivane paused her typing and turned towards her with smile.
"Yeah, it is." She replied, as she poked a key, which dimmed the light that was coming from top box.
Leaving it at that, silence came over them again and Jadwiga slipped into her mind again. As she observed swan maiden, she pondered how she was able to get used to this world. Were the changes easy, or did she struggle too? Between the two, Shivane was always more attune to world and others, while Jadwiga, as beast, couldn't even understand her own feelings.
Jadwiga's gaze turned towards the outside again, and Shivane immediately decided to gain her focus again.
"This place is our nest, basically." Shivane hummed, as she turned the box towards her. On it was shown a picture of what looked like outside of their house. Jadwiga would only see glances on it from window.
"We live here like everybody else. I'm not a monster, neither are you." Shivane continued, tapping on a key. The picture changed, now showing two pictures.
One was of bunch of ladies in lake, with swans swimming among them, the other was of creature, with wings instead of hands, sharp teeth in its mouth and unnatural overall. She knew that the first art was of people like Shivane, while the other was of creatures like her. Ladies in first were described as 'Swan maidens', the being in second was called 'Strzyga'. Swan and Owl.
Jadwiga remained silent for a few more moments.
"Hmph, right." She replied, nodding, not wanting to reveal her true thoughts to Shivane. She was a beauty, while she was a monster, to both themselves and to mortals. There was no comparing the two, no matter how Shivane felt or what she said.
"And what about your friend?" Jadwiga said, changing the subject. If both of them were beings of feather, then was the case same for Shivane's acquittances?
"My friend?" Shivane asked, blinking twice, "You mean the one that came here the other day?"
Out of all responses, she didn't expect what was clear dismissal and then curiosity about others. Her presentation didn't include anything that wasn't about these two.
"I will tell you about her some other time, alright?" She finally said, with a light smile. She ignored the feelings that arisen, at the idea of strzyga deciding to concentrate on knowing others, than getting to know about swan maiden or herself.
Jadwiga hummed in acknowledgment, as she glanced back towards the window, letting the subject and talk pass.
