Am I Alone?

Chapter 10.1 : The Chaos

Chapter 10.1 : The Chaos

Jun 30, 2026

My blood ran cold. I grabbed Min-jae's arm, pulling him closer as I scanned the area. Across the street, barely visible in the shadows between two buildings, I caught a glimpse of a familiar shadow before it disappeared.

Jin-seok.

"What's wrong?" Min-jae asked, noticing my sudden tension.

I showed him the message, watching his face pale as he read it.

"He's not supposed to be here," Min-jae said, voice tight with panic. "The restraining order—"

"I know." I was already dialing the police, but even as I did, I knew it was probably too late. By the time they arrived, Jin-seok would be long gone.

We waited in the bakery until the patrol car showed up, giving our statements to the officers who took notes and promised to increase patrols in the area. The thing is, we all knew the truth. That restraining order? Just expensive toilet paper. If Jin-seok wanted to mess with us, really wanted to, some judge's signature wasn't gonna stop him.

Walking home felt like being followed by ghosts. Every shadow made us jump. Every car engine made us freeze."What does he even want?Like, revenge? To apologize? To finish whatever sick game he started?"

And the real question..the one that made my stomach hurt..how far would he go?

Either way, I found myself walking slower. Being selfish about every second before we had to say goodbye.

"You know you don't have to walk me home every day," Min-jae said suddenly, but there was no real protest in his voice. If anything, he sounded... pleased.

"I know," I replied, stuffing my hands deeper into my jacket pockets. "I want to."

The honesty in my own voice surprised me. Three weeks ago, I would have made up some excuse about needing exercise or going in the same direction anyway. Now, I just said what I meant: I want to be with you as long as possible.

Min-jae's smile was small but radiant. "Good. Because I like having you around."

We were crossing intersection near his neighborhood, still caught up in our own little bubble of nervous energy and unspoken feelings, when I heard the roar of a scooter engine approaching way too fast.

"Watch out!" someone shouted.

I turned just in time and what i see a scooter barreling toward us, the driver clearly struggling to control it. My body froze—that stupid deer-in-headlights reaction that happens when your brain can't process danger fast enough.

But Min-jae's reflexes were lightning quick.

"Ji-hoon!" He grabbed my arm and pulled me backward with such force that we both went tumbling to the ground, me landing directly on top of him as we hit the sidewalk.

And then...

Oh.

Oh no..no..no..

Our lips crashed together.

For a split second, No scooter, no delivery driver shouting apologies, no curious passersby—just the impossible softness of Min-jae's pink lips against mine and the way his breath hitched in surprise. My brain short-circuited completely, every rational thought replaced by a single, overwhelming realization: Sweetness.

Min-jae really tastes like vanilla ice cream.

I jerked backward so fast I probably gave myself whiplash, my face burning with mortification. "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to—that was an accident—oh God, I'm so—"

But when I looked down at Min-jae, expecting to see anger or disgust or at least some sign that I'd just ruined everything between us, I found this traumatized chid staring up at me with the most beautiful blush I'd ever seen. His lips were slightly parted, his eyes wide and dazed, and he looked like... like he'd just experienced something wonderful instead of something terrible.

"I..." Min-jae's voice came out breathy and soft. "That was...Awe."

"I'm sorry," I repeated, scrambling to get off him. "I know you didn't want—"

"Ji-hoon." Min-jae sat up slowly, his hand reaching out to steady me as I tried to untangle our limbs. When his palm accidentally brushed against my stomach—perilously close to where my body had apparently decided to hold its own parade without permission—I nearly died of embarrassment. (Yep..You guys are right... my elephant decided to stand again.)

Please tell me he didn't notice. Please tell me..

The way Min-jae's eyes widened slightly and his blush deepened told me he'd definitely noticed.

"Oh my God," I muttered, covering my face with my hands. "This is a nightmare."

"Are you boys alright?" The delivery driver had finally managed to stop his scooter and was jogging over to us, looking panicked. "I'm so sorry! The brakes weren't working properly, I could have seriously hurt you both!"

"We're fine," Min-jae said, his voice surprisingly steady as he helped both of us to our feet. "Just a little shaken up."

"I am so, so sorry!" The driver bowed deeply, repeatedly. "Please let me know if you need medical attention..I can pay for any.."

"Really, we're okay," I managed, still trying to process the fact that I'd just kissed my best friend and my body had responded like a teenager seeing his first Adult Video. "Just... please be more careful."

The driver apologized about five more times before finally leaving, and then it was just Min-jae and me standing on the sidewalk, staring at each other in the most awkward silence of our lives.

Say something, I told myself. Anything.

"Your lips...are so.." I started, "I mean—sorry, I'm just—they're really soft. Like... like vanilla soft serve ice cream when you first bite into the cone and it's all creamy and perfect and—"

I suddenly stopped talking before I could make sense in this things. Me to myself 'WTF..Am saying...'

Min-jae let out a laugh that sounded suspiciously shaky. "Vanilla soft-serve?"

"Shut up," I groaned. "I'm having a crisis here."

"What kind of crisis?" Min-jae stepped closer, and I could smell that sweet scent that always followed him around—stronger now, like his emotions were making it more intense.

"The kind where I accidentally kiss my best friend and then get... you know...little hard elephant" I gestured vaguely at myself, "...and for spilt second i excited about it like some kind of pervert."

"Ji-hoon." Min-jae's voice was gentle, almost amused. "You're not a pervert for having a normal reaction to kissing someone you care about."

Someone you care about. The words sent a flutter through my chest that had nothing to do with embarrassment but everything to do with hope.

"I care about you ," I said quietly. "Maybe... maybe more than I should."

"What if I want you to care about me more than you should?" Min replied.

This question hung between us like a bridge neither of us was sure we were brave enough to cross. Min-jae was looking at me with those warm brown eyes, his cheeks still pink from our tumble, his hair mussed from the sidewalk, and I thought: This is it. This is the moment where everything changes.

"Min-jae..." I said.

"We should get going," he said suddenly, glancing around as if remembering we were still standing in public where anyone could see us. "My mom will worry if I'm too late."

Right. His mom. The fact that we were two boys standing on a street corner having feelings about each other in a world that wasn't always kind to boys like us.It's Reality.

"Yeah," I agreed, even though every part of me wanted to stay in this moment forever.

"Let's go." i agree.

The rest of the walk to his house was filled with stolen glances and nervous energy. Every time our hands accidentally brushed while walking, I felt electricity shoot up my arm. Every time Min-jae smiled at something I said, my heart did little somersaults in my chest.

When we finally reached his front door, Min-jae turned to face me, keys jingling nervously in his hand.

"Ji-hoon?"

"Yeah?"

"About what happened back there..." He bit his lower lip with little shyness—the same lip I'd kissed just minutes ago.(yes yes i know it was accident). "I don't want you to think it was just an accident. I mean, the falling was an accident, but the way it felt... that wasn't accidental. At least not for me."

My breath caught in my throat. "Min-jae..."

"I know you're scared instead of me," he continued, talking faster now like he was afraid he'd lose his courage. "I know this is all complicated and confusing and probably the worst possible timing with everything that's been happening. But I also know that I've been waiting two years for you to look at me the way you looked at me tonight, and I can't pretend I don't want more."

"he mean More kiss?" me in my mind.

he continued...

"More conversations . More  touches . More moments where you tell me my lips taste like vanilla ice cream and then your blush like you've revealed some terrible secret." His smile was soft and hopeful and absolutely devastating.

I stared at him, this Beautiful, brave boy who'd been hurt by someone else's twisted version of love but was still willing to trust me with his heart, and felt something settle into place in my chest.

"I want that too," I whispered. "I want more." I Murmured.

"Yeah..Ah?.what u just said?"- Min

I reached out and finally, finally tucked that stubborn strand of hair behind his ear.

" maybe next time we can plan the kissing part instead of leaving it up to reckless delivery drivers." I said.

Min-jae's laugh was like warm sweet music. "Deal. Though for what it's worth, that was a pretty good first kiss, even if it was an accident." He chuckled.

"First?" I raised an eyebrow. "You're already assuming there'll be a second?"

"Who stops at one kiss?" he blatantly, and the honesty in his voice made my heart skip several beatsprobably because my brain was already ordering wedding invitations.

We kept talking as we walked, our voices echoing softly in the quiet street, until we reached Min-jae's house on the first floor.

"Hmmm..," I said, backing away slowly before I did something stupid like kiss him again right there in front of his door where his parents might see.

I was halfway down the street when I heard him call my name.

"Ji-hoon!" He called.

I turned around to find him standing in his doorway, backlit by the warm glow from inside his house.

"Sweet dreams," he said, grinning. "Try not to dream about vanilla ice cream. And even if you do... don't eat it all in one go. You should save it for other nights as well"

The way he said it with that innocent smile—(okay okay, fake innocent, we knows it)—but eyes that held just a hint of mischief, it made my brain short-circuit like a cheap chinese phone charger. Was he talking about actual ice cream... or was he...? The double meaning hit me like a delivery truck not like scooter, and my face went so redthat  I'm pretty sure I could have powered half city of Busan.

"Min-jae! What You just said" I squeaked, my voice cracking embarrassingly.

"What?" He tilted his head with fake innocence, though the smirk tugging at his lips gave him away instantly. "I'm just saying... vanilla ice cream is a delicate flavor. It deserves to be... savored. Slowly. Little by little."

I choked on air. Pretty sure we were no longer talking about ice cream.

Oh my God, he's going to kill me from his words if i stay here long.

"You're evil," I managed, backing away before I spontaneously combusted right there on his doorstep. "Pure evil."

"Good night, Ji-hoon," he called sweetly, like he hadn't just made my entire brain short-circuit with ice cream metaphors. "Remember—patience is a virtue." he shouted again.

"No promises!" I called back, practically running down the street as his laughter followed me all the way home.

As I walked through the quiet neighborhood streets, I couldn't stop smiling and blushing—even as I burned with embarrassment. My lips still tingled from our accidental kiss, my heart was beating like I'd just run a marathon. Some glowing warmth fluttered in my chest, whispering: This is what happiness feels like, Ji-hoon.

But when I made it home, the adrenaline faded and something else crept in. Curiosity, impatience, a need I couldn't name. I wanted those butterflies in my heart again. I wanted to know what those moments looked like—what it meant to kiss someone you really liked, to want more, to be wanted.

(Adrenaline - is a hormone body releases when you're suddenly excited, scared, or under stress)

So, after pacing my room for twenty minutes and failing to talk myself out of it, I did something I'd never dared to before: I opened Incognito Mode. Not for "straight stuff" like most guys at my school joked about at lunch, but for something I actually wanted to see—something I needed to understand for myself.

My fingers trembled as I typed:
Two Boy Kissing

A thousand sites exploded onto the screen. Videos, ads, pop-ups flashing, "HOT boys like you in your area!" and "I want to meet you—Park Jin, just 2km away, feeling alone and horny!" along with a million tiny windows and I couldn't close fast enough.

My face turned bright red. But I was already in. I clicked the top result, my heart keep thundering so loud that I was terrified my parents would hear it from the other room.

The video began. I bit my lip, telling myself "Just learn—just try, everyone's curious..its normal..hoon"

But ten seconds in, the ads took over again : flying hearts, chatbox notifications: "Connect with boys near you!" "Private message from a stranger?" A pop-up blocked the video: "Click here to meet real boys now."

I swiped the pop-ups away accidentally clicking something, lprobably sending half my phone's information to America then tried to focus again, but... it didn't help but ads still coming . Then finally somehow video start playing, two boys kissing, touching, but—

But all I could see, all I wanted to see, was Min-jae's face. Every time the guys touched, my mind swapped their faces by min face: the way his eyes crinkled when he laughed, the way his voice sounded when he whispered my name, the softness of his lips..

I can't. thisis not i want.
only Thirty seconds. That's how long it took before I slammed the browser closed, my face burning up. "Nope, nope, nope, can't do this. This is too much. This Not for me. I can't look at anyone except him. Not like this!"

I lay back on my bed, covering my face. Love, I realized, wasn't just about wanting someone. It was wanting him, and only him - even in my wildest moments.
God, I was so gone for this boy.

Just as my heartbeat settled, my phone buzzed—a message from Min-jae.

Min: "...hey, what did you just send me???"

Horror shot through me like a caffeine overdose. I scrambled through my messages, and there it was—the accidental link. One of those stupid pop-ups must've sent it straight from my phone... to him. My crush. The boy I had just kissed.

Oh God. Did I just send him a link to an adult site?
