The Fallen Betrayer

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Jul 08, 2026

Marvin’s mom walked into the room to tell Marvin and Bridgette it was time for bed since they needed to wake up early the next morning to enroll in the academy. They both fell asleep peacefully; however, things were not so great in the Demon Kingdom.

The kingdom was in chaos because Stella was absent, and it was left under the control of his half-brother Amon, who was just lounging around.

"Amon, stop being so lazy and get to work." "I really don’t want to. It’s a lot of effort, and I just want to relax." "Just because Stella is gone doesn’t mean you can slack off. Come on, finish your tasks before she returns." "Okay, Father, I’ll start working." "See, that wasn’t too difficult with a little encouragement." Komoku concluded the conversation with his son. "Maybe once I finish all this 'work,' I can send a message to my half-sister asking her, 'How's everything going?'" Amon pondered.

Amon hurried to get everything done; he went to his room to write a note to his half-sister that said: Dear Stella, The Demon Kingdom hasn’t been doing too well since you went back to your hometown. Dad has been on my case every single day because I’m being lazy. I realize I’m lazy since I can’t figure out how you make work seem so simple. I’m writing this to ask, how are you?" Sincerely, Amon.

Once Amon finished his note, he sent it through a portal and anxiously awaited her reply. While the message was on its way to Stella, Amon decided to take a break from the work he had been putting off for days.

"I still can’t understand how she handles everything financially. Clearly, she knows what she’s doing because she’s smart and I’m not. "But if I want to be the next king someday, I need to learn this now," Amon said.

The message successfully reached Angel Kingdom, aiming to find its way to Stella. Bridgette was gazing out from the window, observing how everything was coming together for the festival set for tomorrow when she spotted something fluttering in the sky. She opened the window to get a better look at this ‘mysterious scroll’; the paper floated closer and eventually landed on the window sill.

Bridgette unfolded the ‘mysterious scroll’ and discovered it was a note from her half-brother in the Demon Kingdom. As she read the message, she was shocked to see that everything was falling apart, and she couldn’t help but laugh at how her half-brother hadn’t changed one bit. “I’m really glad Father let me send messages through the portal, even though I thought he wouldn’t allow it.”

Stella decided to reply to her half-brother so he could know how she was doing: Dear Amon, I got your message. I thought you were concerned about me, but it looks like you haven’t changed at all. It would have been nice if you had explained more about why the kingdom is in chaos. I’m sure you’re just lying because there’s no way that’s true. Sincerely, Stella.

After she finished her reply, she sent it back out the window from where it came and shut the window. Bridgette turned around to find Marvin fast asleep in the top bunk. She decided to go to bed too in the bottom bunk, since tomorrow was going to be a big day for her.

Meanwhile, Frederick, James, and Giovanni began to devise a plan following the earlier incident involving Stella.

"Alright guys, the festival is happening tomorrow afternoon, and that’s when we get our revenge," Frederick stated. "Why do you keep calling it 'revenge day'?" Giovanni inquired. "Because, you idiot, Marvin has been dodging us, and I bet he’ll be at the festival with his family. Once he’s alone, we can trick him into coming to the burned-down academy and make him pay for what he’s done," Frederick reiterated.

"Oh, I get it now, our revenge day plan," Giovanni replied, looking surprised. "But what about that little incident with the lady? What are we going to do about her? What if she follows us and tells on us?" James asked, looking anxious. "Don’t stress about that; we just need to keep it under wraps," Frederick assured him.

The angel kingdom was shrouded in darkness; all sounds had ceased. It was utterly quiet.

Meanwhile, in the demon kingdom, things were spiraling out of control. "Sir, where is your daughter?" "I sent her back to her hometown." "Why did you do that?" "Because she’s been spying on her hometown for over a thousand years, and I also sent her on a journey." "Well, sir, I hope she returns soon, because things here don’t look good at all." Komoku wished for the best for his kingdom.

It was 8am in Angel Kingdom, and the sun was shining brightly. Everyone was waking up, making breakfast, and getting ready for the special day ahead. The excitement in Angel Kingdom was palpable as everyone looked forward to the new statue that would replace the 'disturbing one' in the plaza.

Meanwhile, Bridgette woke up, pondering how she could attend the festival.

"If I could convince Marvin's parents to let me skip the festival, maybe I could go to the library instead. But how could I do that without using my powers? I guess I’ll have to handle it like a regular angel would," Bridgette thought.

Marvin was stirred awake by Bridgette's chatter, even though he remembered what day it was. He sensed that something might go awry today, but he hoped for the best. Bridgette got ready and went to the kitchen to speak with Marvin's parents while Marvin took his time getting ready.

"Good morning! Um, I was wondering if I could go to the library instead of the festival today?" "Why do you want to go to the library?" "I feel like I’m new to everything in this kingdom, and I want to get to know the library since classes are starting soon." "Oh, I understand. Well, you can go to the library and come back to the festival when you’re finished, okay?

Bridgette chooses to have breakfast that Marvin’s parents made and steps outside to begin her first task. As she strolls down the sidewalk, Bridgette glances around and notices more familiar houses that appear somewhat damaged or have been left behind. She pulls out a notepad and starts writing, detailing every house she recalls.

There’s a green house at the corner of Beauty Blvd. This house used to be the most beautiful and costly in the kingdom. Everyone dreamed of living there, but one family already called it home. After the incident, that family chose to move to a different place. Years later, the green house stands empty, with shattered glass everywhere, the garden overrun with mold, and the interior untouched. The blue house in the middle of the same boulevard belonged to the person who bullied me endlessly. Inside, it looked like a typical house, just like Marvin’s parents' house but with brighter colors. The hues are striking, just like my bully. After the incident, I have no clue where they went. One particular house that’s hard to recognize is the yellow house. The green house and this one were always in competition with each other. The community loved both families’ homes; the yellow house was unique for its shiny glass features, including the pool. Now, everything there is in ruins.

Once Bridgette finishes describing the three houses she vividly remembers, she arrives at the library without even realizing it. The library appeared so elegant, with beautifully carved expensive stones; even the door looked fancier than the one in my kingdom.

Bridgette was so captivated by the library that she hadn't seen in 5,000 years. She needed to ask someone if there was a book that explained the history of the founder.

"Hello, are you the librarian?" "I used to be one, until that machine took over and nobody needed me anymore. Are you looking for a specific book, dear?" "Yes, I’m searching for a book that contains the history of the founder. I’m kind of new to this kingdom, and I don’t know much about its history."

"Oh dear, that book can only be found underground where the old books are kept. This means I have to check the cabinet and see in alphabetical order where the book is stored. It will take some time, dear, but I’ll call your number when I finally find it."

"My number? How do I get that number?" "You see that machine over there? Just click the home icon and then the 'number' icon, and your number will print out." "Oh, okay, I’ll do that now."

Bridgette walked over to the machine and followed the instructions the former librarian gave her. She got her number {3325} and took a seat. "If this is going to take a while, maybe I should take a nap to pass the time," Bridgette thought. She napped for a couple of hours before she felt someone shaking her.

"Dear, wake up! I've called your number like ten times; it looks like you didn't hear me. I found the book you were searching for. It was in section H, row 39. Is this the book you wanted?" "Yes, that's the book I'm looking for, thanks! Can I take it home and return it when I'm finished?" "Of course, you can take it home and bring it back whenever you're done." "Thanks a lot; you know, if it weren't for that machine, you wouldn't lose your job as a librarian, Mrs. Courtney."

The librarian was shocked because it was odd that this new person in the kingdom knew her name. As Bridgette happily left the library with the book she found, she began walking back to Marvin's parents' house to start reading about the history of this kingdom.

Passing by the festival and seeing how everything came together, Bridgette glanced at the statue that used to be hers but was now empty for the new one. She didn't care that her statue was replaced by the 'founder,' who she knew wasn't the real founder, but the community ignored the rumors.

"Ugh, this festival gives me a weird feeling that something's off. I should fly instead of walking to the house so I can start writing down the information from this huge book." Bridgette spread her wings and took off towards the residence. When she landed in front of the house's entrance, she was greeted by silence. It seemed no one was home, which was better because it gave Bridgette plenty of time to do her research.

"Alright then, let's see what kind of history this book has," Bridgette said as she opened the book to chapter 1.
