As soon as Bridgette finished reading the book and jotting down notes, she felt like her soul had left her body. It seemed her name was mentioned, but she thought it was a mistake because throughout her life, she had never been recognized as beautiful or pretty, never drew attention, and those two names never felt like they belonged to her.
Bridgette checked the time and realized she had plenty of time to make it to the festival. She quickly changed into a new dress in the restroom that she had bought from a store before arriving here.
The festival was so vibrant that finding him would be nearly impossible. It was so packed that everyone looked alike. Bridgette managed to spot Marvin’s parents, but Marvin was nowhere in sight. She had a feeling that something bad was going to happen to him if she didn’t get to him in time.
Meanwhile, far from his parents, Marvin ran into Frederick, Giovanni, and James. His worst fears came to life, and he hadn’t expected to see them here.
“Well, look who we have here,” James said, his face showing surprise. “Isn’t our favorite assistant, Marvin? It’s nice to see you all alone instead of with your parents,” Giovanni added. “Hey, we have a little surprise for you. But first, guys, you know what to do.” Frederick, grinning wickedly, instructed his friends to knock Marvin out cold.
Bridgette continued her search for Marvin by asking people around, but she got no response until she felt his presence nearby. Using her abilities, she traced a path of footprints leading to the academy that had burned down, which used to be the second-best academy before she set it ablaze. Bridgette realized that things would get really bad if she didn't find him soon.
As she sprinted to locate him, Marvin woke up in a daze, unsure of his surroundings.
"Where am I?" Marvin asked. "You're at the notorious academy that was destroyed years ago by someone who was once an angel like us but turned into a demon," James replied. "But why am I here? Why did you bring me here?" Marvin questioned. "Quiet down, you talk too much," Frederick interrupted. "After you left us, it's time for you to face your punishment," Giovanni declared.
Upon hearing this, the three guys advanced and began to hit and kick him in turns. Bridgette, upon overhearing their conversation and witnessing Marvin's beating, thought to herself, "My father warned me not to use my powers here because it would expose my identity, but I can't just stand by and do nothing for my new friend."
Suddenly, smoke appeared, and she found herself standing in front of the four guys.
Frederick, Giovanni, James, and Marvin were all filled with fear. Stella hadn't shown her face in public for many years.
"I am Stella, and I command you to leave this poor angel alone." "So what? You used to be an angel, but look at you now, you're a demon," Frederick replied. "I won't say it again; leave him alone." "No way, he's our toy, and we won't let him go." "I guess I have no choice but to send you to the demon kingdom to face your sins."
"Hey Frederick, I think you should back off," James suggested. "Yeah, I agree with James; if we don't leave him alone, we'll end up in that kingdom," Giovanni added. "I'm not afraid of a demon girl, and I'm not scared of the demon kingdom," Frederick declared.
Stella then used her powers to open a crack in the ground leading to the demon kingdom with her right hand, lifting the three guys up. Before sending them there, she asked, "Any last words?"
One by one, they shared their final thoughts: "Tell my mom I never loved her" (Giovanni); "I can't believe this is happening to me" (James); "I regret everything I've done in my life, but you'll regret it too, and I will destroy you once I find you, Stella" (Frederick).
Stella dropped the three guys into the hole leading to the demon kingdom and sealed the crack. She turned around to see where Marvin had gone and found him trembling in a corner.
"Hey, don’t be afraid; I’m not here to hurt you. I was just doing my job." "Stay away from me; you’re a monster. Why did you do that? Why are you helping me? Aren’t you a demon?" "You’re right, I am a demon, but I helped you because I saw you getting beaten up, and I can’t stand that. I really hate it when people are bullied all the time." "Okay, but how can I know if you’re telling the truth?" "One day, you will, but not right now. Just keep my identity a secret." "Okay, I won’t tell anyone. Um, I need to go back to the festival with my parents and Bridgette. Have you seen her?"
Stella realized she had a few minutes to change her look before Marvin started searching for her. Stella told Marvin that Bridgette was waiting for him outside the academy gate. As soon as she said that, she vanished in a puff of smoke. She needed to hurry back and turn into Bridgette before Marvin got to the bottom of the stairs leading to the school entrance.
"I don’t get why that demon girl helped me fight off the bullies. It was really helpful, but she still seems suspicious. Why am I even thinking about this? I need to get out of here and find Bridgette; she’s probably worried sick about me," Marvin said quietly.
As Marvin was running and flying as fast as he could, he suddenly stopped to look at a portrait. The portrait depicted a radiant Stella with all her accomplishments.
"No way, she was an overachiever? What happened to her? This is totally different from the stories I've heard about her. After seeing her in person, she doesn’t seem that dangerous. So something must have happened to her before she turned away," Marvin said aloud. While he was lost in thought, he heard an echo in his ear. "Marvin, Marvin, MARVIN, are you there?" "Oh, Bridgette, yes, I’m here. Sorry for getting distracted, but I’m coming outside now." "Okay."
After hearing Bridgette's voice, he hurried and hugged her. He told her everything, like how Stella sent the bullied kids to the demon kingdom. She tried to get closer to him, but he stepped back because she seemed untrustworthy.
"You believe me, right? Because if I tell my parents, they won’t believe me." "Of course, I believe you; I’m just a bit surprised that you met Stella in person. Anyone who meets her face-to-face is really brave; most people just run away." "So you think I’m brave?" "Yes, Marvin, but let’s go back to the festival. Your parents are really worried about you, and don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone about what you went through today." "Thanks, Bridgette; that’s what I call a true friend."
Marvin and Bridgette flew together to the festival. Bridgette explained to Marvin’s parents that he got lost while wandering away from the festival, but she found him alone in the old abandoned burning academy. While Marvin’s parents were scolding him for going near that academy, Bridgette noticed out of the corner of her eye three families asking the authorities about their three missing sons who hadn’t returned for hours.
"Should I give a hint to the authorities and let them know where they can find the three missing sons?" Bridgette whispered.
Once an angel, Stella turned her back on her kingdom and became a demon. Now, as the new queen, she returns to her hometown to collect information. There, she encounters Marvin, a timid guy dealing with similar struggles she once experienced. If she falls in love, it could destroy her reputation. Can she keep up her fake identity or find a way to make peace with the Angel Kingdom?
