The day felt like it dragged on, Sequoia was now struggling to move, it was almost like she had lost her foot once again, that same pain shot through her body, but still she carried on, forcing herself to ignore the excruciating pain. It didn’t go unnoticed by those around her, especially Acanthus. Everyone would try to get her to take a break and have a seat, though their concerns fell on deaf ears.
As the sun rose higher into the sky and the inn became busier Sequoia’s vision started to blur and her legs grew weary. It wasn’t long until she couldn’t keep herself on her feet, collapsing to the ground. Acanthus was the first one to rush to her, taking a hold of her hand. Adults started to gather around, Bougainvillea pulled Acanthus away from his sister, allowing a customer to move her somewhere more open. Acanthus escaped from Bougainvillea’s hold “What are you doing?! I need to check on her!” The man grabbed onto the child’s hand before he could get any closer to his sister. “I understand that you’re worried about your sister, but I need you to go get Doctor Balm, we will make sure she’s ok while you’re gone and we’ll look after your brother. Can you do that?” Acanthus looked over at his sister who was laying on the floor with her hand gripping her foot. Despite his mind rushing with worries and fear he eventually pulled himself away from his thoughts, running out the door.
His legs moved faster than they had in a long time, the sudden twists and turns straining his legs, his breath fast and his heart rushing. He finally managed to get to the doctors, bursting through the doors. He shoved through the other patients, ignoring the tutting and angry murmurs. “I need Ba- Doctor Balm.” He sputtered out in a rush. The receptionist, although frustrated, put on the best customer service smile and voice they could muster. “Doctor Balm Gilead is currently with a patient, I can call for another doctor to assist you if that would be alright.” Acanthus’s mind went blank; he wasn't sure if another doctor would be able to help, seeing the panic in the boys face the receptionist flipped through a large book that laid on the desk in front of him, hovering his index finger over a button impeded into the desk next to the book. “It seems Doctor Perscaria hasn’t currently got any patients and has no appointments for a while, so if it’s fine with you I shall summon him for you.” Acanthus stood there, wiping away his tears and nodding. The receptionist pressed the button “Doctor Perscaria please come to the reception room.” He looked down to the young child “Doctor Perscaria will be in shortly to assist you, please take a seat at the seating area.” Acanthus looked down at his feet, deciding to stay planted until the doctor came. The receptionist once again put on his customer smile, saying in a calm, but slightly frustrated voice, “you’re blocking the way of the other patients in line, so please move to the side.” The young boy, still flustered and anxious, moved to the side, shuffling from one foot to the other, nibbling on his fingernails. It felt like an eternity until the doctor came out. The doctor knelt down to be at eye level with Acanthus “You must be the child that called for me. I am Doctor Perscaria.” Acanthus pulled at the doctor’s sleeve “This way, hurry up!” He ran off, the doctor taking to his feet and followed the young child.
The sun was now hidden behind the clouds, still beaming down on the people’s heads. Acanthus and the doctor moved through the streets, following the twists and turns, they reached the doors of the inn. Acanthus barged through the doors, the innkeeper rushed over, showing the doctor to where Sequoia was lying. The doctor furrowed his eyebrows at the sight of Sequoia. The doctors looked around at the adults, Balm was the one to speak up. “She was clearing off the table and collapsed all of a sudden.” The doctor looked down at the patient “She must have been in a lot of pain, did any of you even notice and get her to take a break?” He was clearly frustrated at the situation, Balm once again spoke up “we tried to get her to sit down and rest but she ignored us.” The doctor grew more irritated but decided to refocus his attention on the child. “Although the wound flesh has sealed, the nerves, the magic vein and veins have not healed fully so they are extremely sensitive. I imagine she had been in extreme pain this whole time.” The group looked down, their faces pained with guilt. The doctor continued his assessment. “Luckily, there is no major issue, the tissue hasn’t broken, but there is a bit of an infection, nothing a healing salve and a few days rest can’t fix. I have put some of the salve on and wrapped it up so you just need to make sure that she gets proper rest and her ankle is fully covered with clean cloth at all times. Every two hours apply this salve and replace the cloth. I’ll come back in five days to check.” The doctor handed three medium sized, blue bottles to Chestnut. As the doctor turned his back to leave, Balm picked the girl up, taking her to her room.
Hello, it's somehow been like seven months since I last updated Sequoia, hope you have enjoyed this chapter, to be honest, I was planning on writing at least another four or five chapters before updating again but I have only completed one other chapter and I'm struggling with chapter sixteen, so I decided to just post this chapter now and chapter fifteen next week, hopefully I would have made some kind of progress with sixteen, but we shall see. Anyway, thank you for reading and I hope you have enjoyed this chapter!
