Vivi woke up to the sound of the alarm going off. It was 7AM. She thought she’d wake up to see the sunshine through the window and the sound of birds chirping softly, a perfect morning. Instead, she got greeted by the rain pouring heavily, hiding the skyscrapers behind it.
“Wow!” Vivi exclaimed, “What a way to start the day, maybe the universe is giving me a sign!” Vivi said aloud dramatically.
Vivi took a quick shower and got dressed for her first day at Maple hospital. Vivi grabbed her umbrella and ran towards the bus stop. While waiting she looked around, kids wearing raincoats and holding colorful umbrellas, walking to school holding their parent's hand. The bus arrived at the stop, Vivi closed her umbrella shut and got inside. She flicked her clothes for any droplets of rain left behind. Luckily there was one seat empty, she went and sat there. She looked out of the window but nothing could be seen as the window was covered with droplets of rain and fog, Vivi drew shapes on the window by her finger. She unlocked her phone to check the stop she had to get down at, in the google maps. The next stop was hers, she got up to get down at the stop. The bus had come to a halt, causing Vivi stagger. After getting down, she sprinted towawards the hospital. Vivi stopped, catching her breath before meeting the staff's head. The nurse in charge who was a lady over her forties, dressed in scrubs and a tight bun, was scolding two nurses for delay in providing medical help to an urgent patient.
‘Good Morning ma’am, I am Violette Hart.’ Vivi said forcing a smile trying not to get caught in the heat of the argument.
‘Morning...why are you late?’ the nurse in charge said, squinting her eyes at Vivi.
‘Uh I am very sorry, ma’am. I will try to get earlier tomorrow.’ Vivi was slightly shaking.
‘Fine, I am just sparing you because you are new and a foreigner’ the nurse in charge said scowling at Vivi. ‘Also, I have a different task for you, follow me’
Vivi sighed as the nurse in charge turned around, walking away. Vivi followed the nurse in charge nervous with a tiny bit of curiosity. She followed the nurse in charge wondering what "different" task she would get. She was walking behind the nurse in charge mindlessly, before she knew she dashed into her as the nurse in charge stopped in her tracks abruptly.
‘Ugh! A bit lousy but this will do’ the nurse in charge said, throwing Vivi a disgusted look.
‘Well, these are the lot you will be taking care of’ the nurse in charge said gesturing towards the men, all standing in a line, looking like they were straight out from television.
Their skin shining like porcelain, some of them had their hair colored in an flaming colours too bright for the eye to look at. But each one of them looked handsome and charming. There were total four of them. All standing tall brilliantly.
‘Go on, introduce yourself’ the nurse in charge urged Vivi.
‘Hello everyone, I am Violette Hart and it’s my pleasure to work for you all’ Vivi introduced herself, trying to be as sweet as possible.
She had no idea who these bunch of men were, but they seemed to be very important as the nurse in charge's attitude changed in front of them. The nurse in charge was smiling for the first time in a while, talking to a man dressed in suit, who looked to be their manager. Vivi let her eyes wander towards the men, they looked like they got paid for being so well maintained literally.
One of the guy amongst them made an eye contact and smiled cheekily at her, Vivi quickly fixed her gaze at the nurse in charge and manager pretending like she was hearing their conversation. It looked like their discussion almost came to an end.
'Well, it is final. Violetta or whatever your name was, you will be a personal healthcare assistant to these gentlemen.' nurse in charge said, her smile seeming way too pretentious.
'Congratulations Violette, this is our card to star company.' the manager handed out the invitation card to Violette.
'Thank you' Vivi took the card and read it. It had the company's name in a decorative font and address printed behind.
'We will be leaving now, Mrs. Kim.' Vivi heard the manager say to the nurse in charge as he turned around walking towards the exit.
Mrs. Kim now lead the way to the manager, the men followed him. Two of them looked her way, waving at her. Vivi couldn't help but wave back at them awkwardly.
As everyone left, she took the chance and fleed to the washroom. Vivi entered a stall, slamming the door shut. With her head in her hands, she was processing all the events that took place in such a short span of time. She thought she was here to look after patients, instead, she was now some caretaker nanny for bunch of men she did not even know names of. "So, firstly I had to run all the way in this gloomy weather and pounding rain and the nurse in charge is so rude, that she cannot even remember my name properly and cannot talk politely for hell's sake! And now I have to babysit those men" she whispered to herself making exaggerated expressions.
Vivi hated to deal with people, especially those who were forced onto her. Vivi spent good fifteen minutes crashing out and then got out of the stall, with a look of defeat.
