Many emotions touched us over the last few days. I felt our closeness with every glance... every touch.
Even though we met only a few weeks ago, it feels as if my heart has pulsed for her for ages.
As time passed, we spoke about every unfinished subject, including her lost sister and the “soul manipulation ability”, coveted by that demon.
She claimed she had no blood-related siblings, and that she had been adopted by her former caretakers, which gave credibility to Anne’s words, even if she remembered no one like her.
“So this is the third day, right?” she asked, yawning with her hair completely messy after waking up. I smiled, relieved that I could witness that sight again.
“Yes, he may appear at any moment now, so we should get ready", I stated.
I had already been eating breakfast, and approached her gently, placing a sugar cookie in her mouth.
“We don’t know when we’ll be able to eat this again", I said, waiting for her reaction.
She placed her right palm against her cheek, savoring the sweetness with a happy expression. Once she finished chewing, she looked toward me and expecting something more.
“I’ll get some more", I said, admiring her adorable face searching for sugar. On my way back to the kitchen, I stopped for a moment and asked:
“Fyie, can I ask you something?”
She seemed curious and replied, “Of course, go ahead".
I was curious about that ‘divine’ figure, and I still couldn’t believe in something like that.
“You... saw his soul, didn’t you?... Did you feel anything strange?” I asked.
Fyie tilted her head to the side, appearing thoughtful. After a few seconds, she finally answered.
“Actually... his soul emits a strong and dazzling golden light... I would expect that from someone like him, but...".
“But?” I asked, even more doubtful.
“It fluctuates... as if it’s constantly moving. That’s different from every soul I’ve ever seen... but I don’t know if it can be considered a problem", she concluded.
“We need to be careful. We don’t know where he came from, or what he wants... and he still calls himself the deity of this world", I told her, just as she stood up and walked toward me.
“You... have more cookies?”, she asked, reminding myselfof the most important part of the conversation.
“Y-Yes", I answered, surprised by her sudden approach and realizing I had completely forgotten about her hunger.
About an hour passed. We were already prepared to leave, and as if that ‘God’ had heard us, a rift opened near the front door of the house.
I maintained a serious expression, trying to imagine what awaited us on the other side. Fyie seemed unconcerned, but still held my hand firmly. With one last look toward the world we were leaving behind, we crossed the portal.
On the other side, we could see the same plains where we first met that man, though, this time, they were far below us.
We stood at the top of one snowy mountain we had observed in the distance that day.
In an instant, we felt the intense cold of that place. I could endure it, but I worried about her, so I handed my jacket to her.
“T-Thank you... will you be okay?” she asked, her tone filled with mutual concern.
“It’s fine, I brought another one", I lied, trying to reassure her.
Caught between the emotion of the unknown and the silence of uncertainty, we waited for some sort of sign.
“It will be a pleasure to welcome you...", we heard the voice of the one who brought us there from behind, and we turned around to see him.
Behind us, the man was standing in a massive staircase, leading to an immense mostly white castle that seemed to touch the heavens as it blended into the mountain. Great towers formed a complex structure, and due to its location, I could only imagine how difficult it must have been to build.
“Welcome to...", the ‘deity’ was about to finish his sentence when, suddenly, Fyie pulled my hand forcefully and said,
“I can see... a castle".
My eyes widened in shock at that information, and I immediately turned toward her.
“You... can see?”, I asked.
Her expression looked frightened by something so far beyond the ordinary.
“Yes... I can see the silhouette of a massive castle with four towers at its corners... and we’re near a huge staircase, but... that’s the only thing I can see here".
Surprised by this, I turned my head toward the possible cause of it all, the man who had called us. He wore a small smile, proud and happy about what had happened.
‘Maybe his treatment is really helping Fyie... but why can she only see the castle?’, I thought to myself, trying to understand this fantastical situation.
“Well, we’re a little late... how about we begin our work?”, the man asked, gesturing with his hand toward the direction we should follow.
We spent several minutes in silence. I tried to comprehend everything happening around us, while Fyie seemed amazed to be able to see something other than souls again.
“We’re here", he announced, raising his hands dramatically.
We entered a garden, and warm vapor embraced our bodies, as if we had suddenly changed seasons.
The garden was circular and open at the center of the castle, large enough to house several large animals. I could see sheep and cows, though I doubted those animals could survive in a mountain climate.
“This is… my personal Eden", the man declared proudly.
