Meredith just nodded, “What do you want to talk about?”

“I wanted to apologize for scaring you…twice,” Bayley sighed, “I’m sorry, I’ve never known omegas before. I mean I went to school with a few of them but we were only taught the basics like don't touch an omega so you don't accidentally scent them, don't corner them, you know what not to do but they never told us what to do.”

Bayley scratched her neck as Meredith stared her down, “You know I think we might have gone to school together- you grew up here right?”

“We had math and science together. I tutored you,” Meredith deadpanned.

“Oh…thank you.”

“Is that all?” Meredith frowned.

“Uh..lunch do you want to go?” Bayley choked.

“I'm busy.” 

“Right! Uhm when are you free, we’re going to work close to each other and I want to get to know you-”

“I'm the omega, the most we’ll see of each other is passing in the hall, dinners, and phone calls. You don't need to know me,” Meredith said coldly.

“Right, but I'd still like to get to know you-”

“You heard the girl,” Mr. Phillips growled.

“Darling, I think it’s best you leave,” Mrs. Monroe said sweetly as she put herself between Bayley and Meredith.

“…Okay.”

“You chased her!” Emmanuel squeaked.

“I know, I know,” Bayley sighed, burying her head in her arms.

“Why were you there in the first place?”

“I scared her the other day when I ran up to the beta,” Bayley groaned.

“You ran up to a beta?!” Emmanuel squeaked, his voice going so high that every dog within 5 blocks must have heard him.

“I…I didn't mean to! I made myself known! She seemed fine with it at the time. I mean, she talked to me earlier this morning.”

Emmanuel sighed, pacing the length of Bayley’s office. “Okay, either she’s really nice, or you didn’t offend her.”

“She did seem a little on edge when I looked at Meredith,” Bayley mumbled.

Emmanuel stopped in front of Bayley’s desk. “What do you mean by ' on edge '?”

“I don’t know, her shoulders raised, her chest kind of puffed out.” Bayley frowned, “Everything about her said ‘fuck off’.”

Emmanuel groaned, his head thrown back. “We’re fucked. You have to fix this, but you can’t make her feel anymore threatened…And you already talked to the Beta, you could talked to Alpha Vanessa but she’s likely to say the same if she doesn’t threaten you first and then we’ll be even more fucked.”

“Manny! I will fix this.”

“How?” Emmanuel asked.

“I don’t know, but I will.”

“She did what?” Vanessa growled.

“Vanessa-”

“She has no right! What is wrong with her?!”

“Vanessa- What are you doing?” Meredith asked, lunging towards Vanessa as she reached for the phone.

“Calling her, she has no right to chase you then corner you-”

“She’s my mate!” Meredith grimaced as the words slipped from her lips.

“She’s…your mate…” Vanessa whispered, “Your mate…” her face lit up. “She’s your mate,” Vanessa growled ripping the phone from its rest.

“Vanessa, please!” Meredith screamed grabbing ahold of Vanessa’s wrist.

The door nearly shattered as it flew open, Alex charged in her eyes glowing, “What the hell is going on?”

Meredith and Vanessa froze, Vanessa squeaked, “Chief Abbers chased and cornered her I-”

“She just came in out of nowhere, I didn’t know what to do so I ran- She was just trying to catch up to me,” Meredith rushed placatingly.

“One at a time.”

“Did you know that the Chief is Meredith’s mate?” Vanessa asked pointing at the omega accusingly.

“Yes.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Vanessa pouted.

“Not my place,” Alex shrugged, “Is that why you two were fighting over the phone?”

“No,” Mer and Vanessa both squeaked.

“Did you know she chased her through the streets?” Vanessa asked.

“No, I didn’t,” Alex frowned, “You said if anything happened-”

“It only happened this afternoon-”

“She cornered her-”

“Not on purpose-”

“Not on purpose?” Vanessa growled.

“She thought something was wrong so she followed me. She didn’t mean to scare me or threaten me in anyway…She just was worried.”

“Worried? I’ve been concerned about Alex plenty of times, I’ve never chased and cornered her!” Vamessa said exasperated.

“Eh…” Alex mumbled, crossing her arms.

“Not purposely! I was- Okay fine but this is different-”

“Because I’m an omega!” Meredith growled, anger flowing off of her.

Vanessa froze, turning to face the omega, “Meredith that’s not what I mean’t…I just worry-”

“I can take care of myself-”

“This isn’t because of your title! Do you remember how I was when Ollie met Jason? I was just as protective,” Vanessa sighed, “You guys are like my siblings, if anything happened to you two…”

Meredith sighed, walking into Vanessa’s chest, “I know…I just…I’m scared. She’s human Ness…what does that mean? Do I have to live with her?”

“You don’t have to do a damn thing,” Vanessa growled, pulling Meredith closer.
