The Last Summoning Of Eldoria

Chapter 01 : A New Journey Begins

Chapter 01 : A New Journey Begins

Jul 22, 2026

The morning sun had barely risen above the western horizon when the harbor of Azure, the great port capital of the Western Concord, was already awake.

Hundreds of merchant vessels swayed gently upon the glittering waters, their towering masts forming a forest of wood and canvas. Sailors shouted from deck to deck as crates of spices, iron ingots, silk, timber, enchanted crystals, and barrels of wine moved endlessly between warehouses and ships. The salty breeze carried the scent of the sea, mixed with coal smoke from countless blacksmiths and the aroma of fresh bread drifting from nearby bakeries.

To the people of Azure, this was an ordinary morning.

Until the church bells began to ring.

One.

Two.

Three.

The bells echoed across the harbor with unusual urgency.

Merchants stopped bargaining. Dockworkers paused in the middle of unloading cargo. Even the noisy seagulls seemed startled by the sudden chorus.

Moments later, a town crier climbed onto a wooden platform in the central marketplace. Behind him stood official carrying scrolls sealed with the golden emblem of the Concord Merchant Council.

The old man raised a brass speaking horn.

"Hear this announcement! Urgent news has arrived from the Eastern Democrate Federation!"

The marketplace fell silent.

Even children stopped chasing one another through the streets.

The crier broke the wax seal and began reading.

"A month ago, the Eastern Democrate Federation successfully completed the first operational coal-powered railway connecting the cities of New Providence, Arden, Lakeside, and Ravenport."

Whispers spread through the crowd.

"A railway?"

"What is that supposed to be?"

"I heard rumors..."

"It uses no horses."

"No horses?"

The crier continued.

"The locomotive completed its inaugural journey without interruption, transporting over Five hundred passengers and nearly one hundred tons of cargo."

This time, silence lasted only a heartbeat before the marketplace erupted.

"Impossible!"

"Five hundred people?"

"Without changing horses?"

"A hundred tons?"

One elderly captain scratched his gray beard.

"If that's true... then caravans are finished."

A spice merchant shook his head.

"No. Impossible. Nothing can replace horses."

Another merchant frowned thoughtfully.

"If the East can move goods that quickly between cities... their production costs will fall. Their factories will expand."

The realization spread like wildfire. This was not merely another invention. It was a weapon. Not one forged from steel, but from industry.

Far above the bustling harbor, inside an elegant three-story merchant residence overlooking the sea, someone nearly fell down the staircase.

"I'M GOING TO BE LATE!"

A twelve-year-old boy raced through the hallway while trying to pull on one boot. His messy black hair refused to stay in place despite every attempt to flatten it. His bright eyes sparkled with enough excitement to power an entire lighthouse.

This was Orvion Ashcroft.

Son of one of the Western Concord's respected maritime merchants.

Dreamer.

Troublemaker.

Explorer.

Or, according to his mother...

"Absolutely hopeless."

"Slow down!" his mother shouted from the dining room. "If you break another vase, you're paying for it!"

"I don't even have money!"

"Exactly!"

Orvion laughed as he hurried toward the kitchen.

His father was already sitting at the breakfast table, calmly reading the morning newspaper while sipping hot tea.

Without looking up, he spoke.

"So... I hear someone couldn't sleep."

Orvion froze.

"...Maybe."

His father folded the newspaper.

"Maybe?"

"You woke this house three times last night asking whether the ship would leave before sunrise."

"...I was just making sure."

"You asked at midnight."

"..."

"You asked again at two."

"..."

"And once more before dawn."

"...I was excited."

His father finally smiled.

Today was not an ordinary day.In just two days, Orvion would leave Azure for the first time in his life. His father had finally decided he was old enough to accompany him on a real merchant voyage across the Four Kings Sea.

Since learning the news three months ago, Orvion had spoken of little else.He had already packed his travel bag twice. Then unpacked it. Then packed it again. His mother insisted he had enough clothes for a journey aroundentire continent.

He insisted she was underestimating how much adventure required.

As he stuffed another piece of bread into his mouth, loud knocking echoed from the front door.

Three quick knocks.

Then two slower ones.

Orvion immediately recognized the pattern.

"Raphella!"

Without waiting for permission, he sprinted toward the entrance and threw open the door. Standing outside was a girl almost same age.

Her silver hair shimmered beneath the morning sunlight like freshly fallen snow. Long pointed ears peeked through neatly braided strands, immediately revealing her elven heritage. Her emerald-green eyes carried a calm intelligence that perfectly balanced Orvion's endless energy.

She wore a simple blue traveling cloak despite having no intention of traveling anywhere today.

This was simply because she liked it.

"You're late," she said. "I've been waiting for almost three minutes."

Orvion blinked.

"...Three whole minutes?"

"Yes."

"...That's practically forever."

Raphella sighed.

"You still haven't changed."

"And you still count everything."

"I like counting."

The two shared a laugh before walking toward the garden separating their neighboring homes.

Their families had lived beside each other for years.Raphella's father served as associate of Northern Coalition's ambassador to the Western Concord. His diplomatic duties had kept the family in Azure for nearly a decade.

By now, the two children knew every alley, rooftop, and hidden corner of the district. They had grown up together. Celebrated birthdays together. Argued over board games. And once attempted to dig a tunnel to the harbor because Orvion believed pirates always buried treasure nearby.

The only thing they found...

...was an extremely angry gardener.

Raphella looked toward the harbor, where bells continued ringing.

"So... you heard the news?"

Orvion's eyes immediately lit up.

"The train?"

She nodded.

"I knew you'd be excited."

"Excited?" He practically jumped. "Raphella! They connected four cities! FOUR! Without horses!"

"I know."

"Can you imagine how amazing that must be?"

"I can."

"I want to see it."

"I know."

"I mean really see it."

"I know."

"I want to ride it."

"I know."

"I want to visit every city in the East."

"I know."

"I want to meet one of those famous summoners."

"...I know."

"For three years you've repeated that dream almost every day."

Orvion grinned sheepishly.

"...Have I?"

"Yes."

"You even drew maps."

"They were good maps."

"They were upside down."

"...Details."

Raphella couldn't help smiling.

She had heard this dream countless times.

Ever since stories of the Eastern Federation's inventions began spreading across the continent, Orvion had become fascinated.

Steam engines. Factories. Strange machines. Firearms.

Every merchant returning from the East brought another unbelievable story And Orvion wanted to see every one of it with his own eyes.

He looked toward the sea.

"This voyage... it's only the beginning."

Raphella followed his gaze.Merchant ships slowly departed the harbor, their white sails catching the morning wind. Some sailed north. Others east. A few turned south.

Beyond the endless blue horizon lay the rest of Eldoria.

Kingdoms. Empires. Republics. Wars.

And somewhere far beyond those distant waters...

A train was racing across the Eastern plains, carrying the future with it.

Neither Orvion nor Raphella realized it yet.

But that single invention had already begun changing the destiny of the entire continent.

And in ways neither of them could imagine...

...their own lives were about to change as well.
