In the morning, Crawford woke up with a headache after a strange dream. At first, he couldn’t remember what he dreamed, but right at the moment he got out of bed, everything came to his mind.
His dream was about him and Lawrence, at the beach, having a great time watching the smooth waves on the ocean and feeling the sand on their feet. But they were acting strangely, hugging more than usual, kissing each other. ‘Wait, kissing?’ Was one of the first thoughts of Crawford when he visualised the flashbacks, everything was getting really weird, and the more time it passed, the more doubts he felt.
After almost crashing out, Crawford remembered that he arranged to go out with his friends, Logan Riley and Bernard Williams, that same day, to go for some ice-cream, and they would come for him to pick him up, so he got ready quickly and left his home.
The car journey was a moment of pure reflection for Crawford. While Logan and Bernard were yapping and yapping, he only spoke a few words and sentences. He couldn't stop thinking about his dream. He almost felt like his headache was returning to his tired body.
They arrived at the ice-cream parlour, a nice shop with pastel colours and fun-looking decor. The place was refreshing, it had a cold temperature. They had a counter where you could buy sweets and another for displaying the ice-cream flavours. Bernard asked for a double chocolate and strawberry ice-cream with sprinkles, Logan did only ask for a single-flavour vanilla one.
“Why do you always ask for vanilla? It's too generic, you can just buy pre-packaged ice-cream and it'll taste the same.” Said Bernard, with ice-cream and some sprinkles in his mouth.
“I like it from this shop, it tastes better”
“At least you could add another flavour.”
“Nah, too expensive.”
“You're a stingy guy, huh?”
Crawford was almost trembling at the very thought of telling his friends about his clearly not easy situation with Lawrence, after all, not even him was sure of what was happening. ‘Can't be that bad’ was the last sentence that echoed and was repeated a bunch of times in his head, so he decided to interrupt his friend's ice-cream preferences argument and finally speak up.
“Guys…”
“What is it?” They both, Logan and Bernard, said it in unison, and felt pleased precisely for the perfect timing.
“I've been feeling weird lately”
“Is it about Lawrence?” Bernard just blurted that out.
“Wait, how did you know?” Said Crawford, feeling horribly embarrassed.
“I was right?” He seemed happy to have got exactly Crawford's point.
“I guess. I just feel… weird when he's around. I can't even stand looking at him.”
“Did he say something bad?”
“Did he fight with you?” Asked Logan.
“No, idiot, they don't seem to be angry or that stuff.” Bernard answered instead of letting Crawford speak.
“It's not that.” Crawford tried to correct him.
“Then did you say something awkward that you regret?”
“No! It's not- any of that.”
“Then I have no idea.”
“It's just… my mind has been kind of fuzzy lately… I feel like a strange uncomfortable feeling when he's with me”
“So suddenly? But you adored this guy a few days ago.”
“I don't hate him, it's not that kind of feeling, I…”
Neither of them said a word, they were waiting for their friend to give them answers, hopefully without throwing up.
“Yesterday, at the Limousine, he was too close to me, and-”
“Is he harassing you?” Said Logan.
“No, stop interrupting me! He's a great guy…”
At this point, Logan and Bernard were starting to question their friend's behaviour, with the wires clicking inside their minds. They both chuckled, trying to hold their breath to not laugh.
“The point is I just get too nervous with him, when he hugs me I feel my stomach weird, almost like I'm going to vomit.”
Logan and Bernard couldn't hold it any longer, so they burst out laughing as they looked at one another. Crawford showed a face of confusion.
It took a while for them to catch their breath, but when they did, Bernard proceeded to blurt out another bomb.
“Hey Vic, I didn't know you like ‘em burly!”
Crawford's friends started cackling, while he was processing what Bernard just said.
“What? No, it's not that!”
“Oh Victor Crawford, I don't know how to exactly put it, have you considered…” Bernard didn't finish his point.
“No? You fucking idiot!”
“Hey, calm down, no need to be ashamed.” Said Logan, who was genuinely trying to stay calm, but he could not avoid getting infected by Bernard's laughter.
“I don't think I see him that way!”
“Just consider it, I'd be happy for you.”
“Even if you dated a strong dude!” Added Bernard. He could not take the situation seriously.
“You know what? I'm not having this fucking conversation!”
“Victor, wait!” Logan felt bad when Crawford stormed out of the ice-cream parlour, while Bernard was still chuckling at his side.
