Time's Up

CHAPTER 5: Much to Learn

CHAPTER 5: Much to Learn

Jul 25, 2026

Now, no one had seen the Professor shaken up this much before. In fact it startled most of his closer colleagues to a breaking point. But he walked by, bleeding onto the floor as he did without a word. One of the colleagues tapped his shoulder.

"What's up man!? You aren't acting like yourself…"

"Like you would act like yourself if you witnessed mass slaughter in your mind-scape! Hah! That was the highlight of my day…"

He trailed off, taking note of the look of confusion and worry on the scientist's face.

"Look. I'll be okay. Don't worry about it."

His eyes locked onto the other man's. Then he sighed, shaking his head.

"I apologize…I need some space. Give me an hour. If I don't come back, then you can worry."

The Professor quickly hurried out of the room. Out of the building. Into the fresh air that he desperately needed. After he was far enough away from the premises he commentated on how silly this whole ordeal had been.

"Note to self. Don't get slammed into a wall unless you're begging for it."

He then chuckled softly to himself.

"That sentence has multiple meanings, Creator. Take that as you will."

There was a flashing beam of light and the sound of maniacal laughter.

"You should be ashamed of yourself, Professor! I thought you were smart enough to not tempt fate!"

"Oh shut it, Creator you know damn well you like what you see. Plus you didn't think I was oblivious to you following me around…did you?"

A small pause…

"Because if you did. Then you're quite mistaken."

"Well, fine. You got me."

"Good. Now, cut to the chase. Why are you here?"

The Creator…a being of colorful vibrancy and lover of the theatrical laughed in spite of the mortal being. Well, not exactly mortal…more like the thing that shouldn't exist. Once he had control over himself he looked the Professor up and down then cleared his throat.

"Simply to give you an offer you can't refuse."

"Like what?"

"Like the love of your life back. Who was it again? Violet? Lavendar? Rose?"

The Professor shuddered when the Creator's voice stopped on the name Rose. Almost as if the god had known about the incident…the Professor wouldn't deny that it would make sense. The god of everything would know everything…right?

"You can't do that. It's against the rules of everything I and yourself stand for!"

"And so what? You know you want her back. And I'm giving you the chance to…at the price of a tiny little favor."

"The answer is no, Creator."

"So be it. Have it your way then, Professor. But don't come crying to me when you need help next time."

The Creator chuckled softly to himself shaking his head from beyond the blinding light that surrounded him. He stepped back quickly and the beam of light vanished. Leaving the Professor to contemplate what had just happened before him. His eyes drifted from left to right and noticed that while time for him hadn't seemed to move hours had gone by in the world surrounding him. Had he been put in a time pocket with the Creator? It seemed as if he hadn't been there for quite some time even. The Professor shrugged it off and quickly walked back to the building that he had been minutes before. To an all out red alert. Apparently he had been gone for years. And now he was going to pay for it. Maybe the Creator had been right all along. Maybe, just maybe, he should have taken him up on that offer.

But he shrugged those feelings away. Moving his mind's eye back to the present where he was witnessing bloodshed. He gulped and quickly made the decision to back away from the scene at hand. He had to get back to the school which by this year had apparently been condemned.

He ran down the street in the direction of the university his eyes wide with fear. Yelling and screaming could be heard surrounding him but all his mind could think of was Pendal. He rammed into the university doors so hard they burst from their hinges then sprinted down the hallways until he made it to the lecture room. Which was at this point in major disrepair…other than Pendal who stood tall and almost new looking in the destroyed room.

"Pendal, it's me, the Professor! Open up!"

There was a creaking sound as the yelling drew nearer.

"Please. The Creator contacted me it's urgent…life and death!"

At that Pendal's door swung open and the Professor leapt inside, slamming the door behind him. He let out a yell of anguish stomping on the floor then kicking the console.

"This couldn't get any worse! The Creator did this!"

Pendal whirred as if to say something calming…she wanted to help but didn't quite know how to and neither did the Professor. For once both of them were entirely stumped on what to do. How could they save people if time wouldn't work for them? Why was the Creator around now? Why was time not existing correctly?

All of these were good questions. But none of them had particularly good answers. So the Professor for the first time in ages began to cry. The tears began to fall slowly then became streams down his pale features.

"Why!? Why does this always happen!? Why can't anything go right!?"

He sobbed hiding his face in his hands.

"It isn't fair! It isn't fair!"

He shouted his words echoing through the console room.

The Professor stayed like this for quite some time. Before finally deciding to pick himself up off the floor and meander to his bedroom. It was time to get some rest. Some proper rest. Not rest where he'd have to stab himself in the hand to wake himself. A type of sleep he hadn't had for a very long time. A restful one.

Follow the Professor as he learns time can in fact be broken. What would you do if the very thing that gave you structure and meaning in life began to deteriorate before your very eyes? This story goes into both this and the echoes of tragedy.

An escape that also parallels our world. Shining light on people that normally wouldn't be shown. Showing how hatred harms and destroys lives. The solemn truth that differences will always cause hatred and war when these differences should be celebrated.

The Clockwork Saga is a celebration of history and science fiction. Bringing both together into one series that unlike time won't be disappearing anytime soon.

Can't wait to see you around…

Yours truly ~ The Creator
