The Daisy Theory

Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Aug 14, 2026

April 13, 2026

I do have a plan now.

Mistletoe Blue’s set, as it turns out, is hiring interns and minimum wage employees to clean, set up equipment, and even do actual recording for the movie. Since I have both a co-op position and actual experience in detailed photography as well as photoshop and video editing, I decided to apply for the set.

The job market for teenagers and young adults without a degree or college diploma is dismal. But to my surprise, I got hired as a camerawoman anyway. From what I’ve looked up, Daisy is apparently really nice to her fans - so maybe my mention of being into her music helped?

My job begins today. It is three hours after school every weekday, plus 9 to 5 shifts on Saturdays and afternoon work on Sunday - though shifts are flexible. The reviews online are rather mixed, with some posters complaining about delayed paycheques and fatigue. The intern turnover rate is also notoriously high, even by intern standards. Still, it’s probably the easiest way for me to get close to Daisy Butler - and by extension, her boyfriend.

Also, I will finish my English essay at some point.

Point, Proof, Analysis

Throughout the course of history, jerks have been a ubiquitous part of society. No matter how, where, or when, the unpleasantries of jerks have caused annoyance for many - be their targets gracious, deserving, or anywhere in between. Of course, human nature being flawed, we all exhibit questionable mannerisms from time to time. Nonetheless, it pains me to say that barring genuinely abusive people, Daisy Butler is probably the most unpleasant person I’ve ever encountered.

First of all, Daisy cannot be decent to most of her colleagues. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a veteran employee, a higher up, or a recent hire: she will dislike you. Cleanup regulars Aarya and Rupert warned me not to strike up small talk with her. Indeed, Aarya claimed that she stated the latter was “an idiot” (Aarya) who had “no future in the business” (Aarya) during a brief conversation Aarya started about her hairstyling career goals. This was despite the fact that Aarya had completed a grueling apprenticeship for it which she took her gig on Mistletoe Blue to pay off. Rupert, for his part, voiced similar complaints, asserting that Daisy would tell him to “fuck the hell off” (Rupert) whenever he tried to converse with her on break about anything. I ignored my coworkers, as they claimed today was “practically a holiday” (Mistletoe Blue, behind the scenes). With half the set off, including the director, I figured Daisy could loosen up. Whew boy - I definitely should have heeded their warnings.

Upon trying to talk to Daisy during a brief moment of downtime, one of the first things she told me was that I was “an amateur hack with zero hope in camera-land” (Butler). Granted, this was more about my general work as a photographer than about anything specific related to Mistletoe Blue. However, it was still somewhat aggravating that she called my personal photographic efforts a waste when I had invested so much time and energy into getting both the right angles and the right applications for them - albeit in presumably different contexts from my home universe.

The worst part about all of this, though, is that Daisy is capable of being nice. She is kind to her fans online and in person, even giving some of them last minute free merchandise despite officially pricing them. This is saying something, especially considering how creepy many of those in her cult-following style fanbase can be. Indeed, she even gave a slice of cheese pizza to a crasher who tried to break into a previous concert of hers, letting him take a selfie with her as well. I don’t know how she tolerates this sort of behaviour, but it would be admirable if it weren’t for her off-putting demeanour when the cameras stop rolling.

According to an intern who was set to quit the day I came in, Daisy does have a very small selection of people in her actual circle that she’s kind to. These include “her manager, some girl named Lav, and probably her boyfriend” (Mistletoe Blue, behind the scenes). However, I’m not even sure that is true, particularly given what I’ve already seen and heard from her on duty.

To her slight credit, Daisy does appear to have standards. Upon supporting actor Pierre D. Rocher bragging about yet another one of the girls he scored, Daisy’s response was to bluntly tell him “You only get taken women and homewreckers, shut up” (Butler). Given the fact he met his fangirl wife when she was 13 and he was 23 (even if they didn’t interact much until she was of age) and still has the audacity to publicly claim their relationship is pure and monogamous to this day in spite of his reckless exploits, I bear little sympathy towards him. It’s a shame Daisy aims the same energy she throws at him at…well..basically everyone else.

Overall, there are plenty of factors not to like about Daisy Butler. With her unpleasant mannerisms and the fact she so aggressively tries to cover them up, it feels like a miracle she has survived in show business for four years. Then again, celebrities have gotten away with worse.

PS: Note to self - don’t submit this for class unless you edit it down…
