“She ran?” Ollie frowned, a wide smile on his face.

“Yup,” Meredith nodded, pulling some pots and pans out of cupboards. Three alphas from the surrounding packs were coming to visit. She wanted to make sure she had dinner ready for their arrival. Alphas have such big stomachs she thought, shaking her head, as she hefted a giant pot onto the stove.

“I've heard of people making a fool of themselves when they first meet their mate but this is a whole new level. First she chases you-”

“By accident!”

Ollie rolls his eyes. “Right, accident. Then she corners you- also by accident!” he amends before Meredith can. “Then she nearly gets run over trying to get away from you…and I thought I was a bumbling idiot when I met Jason,” Ollie chuckles.

“She’s not a bumbling idiot.” Meredith glares at the Beta.

“Sorry,” Ollie says, raising his hands in surrender. “Are you sure you don't want to try with her,” he asked, fidgeting with a pan.

“Of course not! Why would you ask that?” Meredith growled.

Ollie smiled, “Because for someone who wants nothing to do with her, you're very defensive of her.”

“Am not!”

Ollie chuckled, “Are too.”

Meredith frowned, turning to face Ollie. “Even if I wanted to, it wouldn't work.” Ollie frowned at her in confusion, Meredith sighed. “She's a human. She's the chief which means she probably has to live in town. She knows virtually nothing about being a wolf let alone being an omega.” Meredith counted off on her fingers.

“Plenty of wolves mate with humans. We aren't that far from town, maybe a 20-minute drive. She knows a lot more about wolves than most and most wolves know nothing about omegas!” Ollie countered.

Meredith’s frown deepens, “Who says she wants anything to do with me?”

Ollie smiled, standing taller. “She is so enamored by you she nearly got run over twice! Not to mention she somehow kept up with you out of sheer concern. Not many humans can keep up with an omega. And she doesn't even know your mates! Imagine how she’d be if she knew.”

“Ollie-”

“I'm just saying think about it.”

“I can't!”

“Why not?”

“Because she could be bad! Like Alex’s old alpha, like…”

Ollie sighed, pulling Meredith in. “Like Matthew…”

It's Meredith’s turn to have her world turned upside down. Meredith expected to be the archer if anything, not the target. She had given up on finding her mate a long time ago, the best chance you had at finding your mate was in Peak County high where every kid your age went and where most found their other half. Cheese right? But true and unfortunately for Mer unsuccessful. She was a summer baby. July 10th to be exact, when every student in her year had already found their mate or had gotten as far away from Peak County as possible including Bayley Abbers, future Chief of Peak County, and her ex-best friend. Or still friends? Bayley didn't stay to find out, after all, she couldn't mourn what she hadn't lost right?
