Jeongin changed his view, and he activated a hologram like a blue helmet.
‘Don't make me laugh, I've already seen your face.’
He activated a distorted voice and started to dance: “Hello and welcome! To the new show of…”
Paulina burns her own hand and creates fire light like a flare.
‘Wow, what a magnificent power; you can control the fire,’ he assessed with the same robot voice.
‘Yes, and I am going to destroy your outfit if you don't show your real face.’
Jeongin deactivated the voice and helmet, but he was looking at the floor, ashamed.
‘Dilka, are you a friend of this pervert?’ she said, aiming to Jeongin.
‘Yes, he's the boy I explained. Why don't you stop calling him a pervert?’
Jeongin remained silent, even when Dilka asked him.
‘Let me tell you a tale. Some years ago…’
‘Please don't.’
Coughing intensely, ‘We met in a group of people; it was to make new friends, especially for foreign people like us, who were alone in the country.’
‘At the beginning, he was nice, but in the first meeting, I thought it was a “friend meeting”, but naaah,’ she expressed loudly, ‘he wanted to sleep with me.’
‘I just, I thought you wanted it.’
No! I was honest at the beginning; I just wanted to make new friends, but you insisted on it. After that, I left the group; my other friends told me that your people are interested in that, not more.’
‘Yes, and I left that group too; I swear I stopped doing that.’
‘I don't know, man, I don't continue using it.’
‘Ok, he was an idiot, but he changed, Paulina, he really changed, he's different with me.’
‘Because you don´t like him, they are very superficial,’ she affirmed, narrowing his eyes.
Jeongin turned, and he moved his hands and said: “Listen, I know what I did was so wrong; there are no words to express how ashamed I feel. Please accept my apologies; I swear I’m not the same anymore.”
‘Please, Paulina, give him an opportunity.’
Paulina closed her eyes, disgusted, and said: “Fine! But if you do the same, I will leave this team. Come to my house”.
Paulina's house was on the first floor, concreted walls and some purple lights blinking. Some people were smoking blue gadgets, and the smoke was pink.
‘Oh, nice house, Paulina. I see you changed your flat, but why did you choose this… mmm… curious place?’
‘Let's say, my life took other paths randomly; the divine forces brought me here, against my will.’
‘I hope if you said this, it's because you are living in a VIP residence; am I wrong, Dilka?’
‘No, all of us live on the first floor, where no one can see what really happens.’
‘Dilka told you I need your help to join my crew; what's it?’
‘I met a friend some time ago, and we got close. His name is Lâm Văn Duệ, but unfortunately, he wasn't in wonderful paths. And he was kidnapped a week ago.’
‘He shall be fine, I know.’
‘I really hope the same, boy. Listen, I ask you for help because I have been visiting his house, but it's empty, and I asked you because Dilka told you need a team, and I can't do this alone.’
‘Why is it so hard for someone with fire powers?’
‘I think he was kidnapped by the mafia; he entered this country illegally, and it's thanks to that mafia he arrived.’
Jeongin took a long breath and looked to the roof.
‘More illegal things, ok, I think we can do it, by the way Paulina, do you still have your visa valid?’
‘Is it serious?’ She asserted and looked disgusted at the other view, squeezing her lips.
‘Ah… No… oh yes, I trust you, but…’ He claimed while he was watching Dilka, waiting for her to help him.
‘Listen, Jeongin, bloody bastard,’ she said slowly. ‘I have a damn valid visa, ok? Look, if you don't want to help, you can find another one who could put up with you.’
‘Jeongin, please, just listen,’ explained Dilka, putting her hands in her knees and watching him carefully.
‘Ok you are right. I’m sorry, this is new for me. Please continue. Oh, by the way, where’s the other member?’
‘Oh, you mean Rowan? Yeah, he's a little bit shy; I think we should go with him.’
‘Yes, if we were more, we could have more opportunities.’
When they left, Jeongin asked where his house was, but he got a surprise when Paulina said: “Ohh, he's living in the last house on this corner”.
They walked in a narrow corridor made of concrete; above them, there was another concrete roof, the floor of the second house's top.
The only light was a random announcement of drinks, and the smell was urine and cigarettes.
‘He must be here; I can listen to his horrible music. We became friends when he left his house to argue with their neighbourhood; he complains about them because they don't support his music, and I complain about the children.’
Paulina was touching the borders with her fingers, like a child.
‘It's felt like a funeral, a metal funeral,’ said Jeongin and activated his purple light.
When Paulina knocked on the door, a tall man appeared, robust, with long wavy brown hair and blue eyes. He looked so serious, like a corpse without a soul; his room was darker than the Greek underworld, and he seemed like an evil spirit who would take any soul.
Jeongin and Dilka were so amused they couldn't express a word, even a simple hello; his presence captivated them.
‘Hey Rowan, it's me, Paulina, and they're the people I told you.’
‘Oh, hello! Hello legends! Good Arvo!’
‘Why are you barefoot?’ Asked Dilka, and didn't stop looking at his feet.
‘Oh, he loves it; most of the time, he's not using any shoes at home.’ Paulina expressed, playing with her hands.
‘Please come, come!’
Jeongin started to smile like Dilka; they stopped feeling scared.
‘Why do you have some holes in your house?’
‘There's nothing bad there; I used it for transport.’
‘What are you talking about? Is this a new method of transport?’ Dilka while she was biting her cheek.
‘No, that's my power. I can create two shovels and use them to dig in any bugger ground, but it took me a little bit more when it's an impenetrable material. By the way, you want any stubby?’
‘What's that?’
‘Beer.’
‘Oh, so as I've been noticing, your accent and vocabulary aren't common. But you are a native speaker, isn't it?’
‘Aye.’
‘Great, so where are you from? And you too, Paulina.’
‘I'm from Motrizto.’ Paulina said, putting her arms extended in the lounge.
‘And I'm from Kandluasert.’
‘So, you're a Kandue?’
‘Yes, that word never changes. Just our government.’
‘So, tell me, why are you interested in joining my crew?’
‘Well, I need your help, like Paulina. I stuffed up, and I can't do this alone. Help me, and I shall help you. I don't have anything to do, anyway.’
‘Good, just tell me what it is.’
‘Look, I used to be another person in the past, but I changed. Unfortunately, these people can't trust me, and they… they said I owed them money, and want me to work for them.’
‘It's ok, you just need help, welcome.’
‘What? You are not going to ask him about where he’s stuck?’ Asked Paulina, and gazed at Jeongin.
‘No, I don't need- he needs my help, and I want him on my team.’
‘That's my Jeongin; he trusts everyone, and tries to see the good in people, even his kin people.’ Announce Dilka while she was smiling, and pressing his cheek.
‘Oh man, you're going to get killed,’ says Rowan.
‘No, it's ok, we're going to be…’
‘Jeongin, he's in the same problem as me, or even worse, he owed money to the mafia, he!’
‘What did you say?’ He utters and slow-claps. ‘This is amazing.’
‘Look, Rowan, sorry, I don't blame you, but it’s funny how quickly he can come to trust us. Jeongin, you should ask more questions. I really want your help, but be more conscious.’
‘Yes, after all, you're gonna be our leader, no?’ Rowan asked and laughed.
‘Please, let me some space to think. I'm going to walk.’ When he was at the door, he was waiting for Dilka to observe him, but only Paulina looked at him and noticed his nonconformity.
‘Dilka, come, please.’
‘Sure.’
They went a little bit far, but where the lights LED can identify them.
‘Dilka, do you know what a mess he’s got himself into?’
‘Is this the Destiny you were talking about? Because I don't need it; I can do it by myself.’
‘I know Jeongin, and I'm sorry, but you need to understand what I said before; it was true, please have faith.’
‘I don't know If faiths want me to work with these people.’
‘Jeongin, they are good people; you need to know them. They just… had bad moments; you cannot blame them.’
‘There are always good solutions.’
‘Yes, and that's what they are trying to do, to change. Jeongin, they're like you; they wanted to leave their houses, to get a new life.’
‘But I've never been in this situation before, it's easy to…’
‘No Jeongin! You have never experienced these problems because of your parents; they gave you everything, and while you were living a dream of kings, some people lived like miserables, and they're still living that life.’
‘For once in your life, I beg you, stop judging people or just these people, and try to think how hard it is in their lives. Paulina is a lovely person, and she talks very well about Rowan; just try, for me.’
Jeongin took a long breath, and after some minutes, he pointed to the door to enter. So Dilka followed him.
‘Sorry for the delay, guys, but it's ok; tell me what our next path is.’
