The school Idol is too dense for love

Chapter 9: Addendum A: Friend-Variable Chen

Chapter 9: Addendum A: Friend-Variable Chen

Sep 21, 2026

The afternoon sun hit the classroom windows, but inside, Lu Huawei's desk had been temporarily converted into a high-security legislative office.
Her pristine, leather-bound notebook was wide open, and her pen flew across the pages as she furiously drafted a legalistic document.
At the top of the fresh page, printed in neat, geometric block letters, was the official title: 'Addendum A: Rules and Restrictions for Friend-Variable Chen.'
Yue leaned over from the adjacent desk, staring at the dense paragraphs with a look of pure, secondary exhaustion. "Lu... what on earth are you writing now? It looks like a lawsuit."
"Keep your volume down, Yue," Huawei aggressively whispered back, drawing a rigid grid to align her text.
"I am establishing a defensive perimeter. Since Subject Chen has deployed a 'friends first' compromise strategy, I must upgrade my system boundaries. Clear legal parameters prevent emotional malware from breaching my research environment."
Yue adjusted her posture, reading a few lines over her friend's shoulder. Her jaw dropped.
"Lu, you wrote that his physical proximity must never drop below 1.5 meters unless handing over school paperwork? And look at Clause 3! 'Delivery of high-calorie baked goods requires a 48-hour advance notice and a comprehensive nutritional ingredient sheet.' This isn't a friendship agreement, it's a restraining order!"
"Nonsense," Huawei declared confidently, tightening her signature ribbon with an authoritative snap. "It is a highly optimized operational blueprint. Once he signs it, our social alliance will achieve maximum classroom efficiency."

To verify if her newly drafted parameters aligned with real-world human behavior, Huawei determined that she needed to observe how standard, non-romantic side characters interacted in their natural habitat.
The moment the free period bell chimed, she dragged a highly reluctant Yue out into the sunny school courtyard.
Huawei quickly dropped into a low crouch behind a large decorative hedge, pulling a small pair of plastic binoculars from her school bag. She pressed them to her ruby eyes, scanning the area like a wildlife researcher.
"Why are we hiding in the dirt, Lu?" Yue groaned, brushing a stray leaf off her skirt. "People are starting to look at us."
"Quiet, Yue. I am collecting control data," Huawei muttered, zeroing in on a group of boys high-fiving by the basketball courts, then panning over to two girls sharing snacks on a concrete bench.
"Fascinating. According to my real-time tracking, standard friendship variables require a thirty percent frequency of light physical aggression and casual verbal insults. To maintain a convincing friendship mask with Subject Chen, I must insult his academic capabilities tomorrow morning."
Yue faceplanted hard, leaning her head against the pillar. "Please do not bully the poor guy, Lu. He's just trying to be nice to you."

After the final bell of the day, Huawei headed straight to the school library to print out her official, finalized contract. The library was quiet, smelling of old paper and wood lacquer.
She stood at the student printing station, watching the machine smoothly slide out the crisp, stapled multi-page document. She held it proudly in her hands, ready to locate her target.
A sudden shadow fell over the desk.
The heavy wooden library doors had swung open, and Chen walked into the room, balancing a massive stack of reference books for his sports club in his arms.
Chen spotted her bright purple hair and walked straight over, balancing the heavy load. He smiled his usual bright, enthusiastic smile, completely relaxed now that they were officially "friends first." "Hey, Huawei! Studying late?"
Huawei didn't hesitate for a single second.
She stepped forward, her vibrant ruby eyes locking onto his with absolute, professional seriousness. With an authoritative slap, she dropped the stapled document directly on top of his heavy book stack.
"Subject Chen," Huawei announced clearly, her voice cutting through the library silence. "To officially activate our designated friendship parameters, you must read, initial each page, and sign this contract in triplicate. Failure to comply will result in an immediate termination of our mutual social alliance."
Chen blinked, completely caught off guard under the weight of his books. "A... contract?"
He lowered his head, his eyes tracking the dense paragraphs on the front page until they locked onto a specific sentence near the bottom.
Because Huawei had stayed up all night fast-forwarding through romance movies, she had accidentally copied a forbidden line into the document without fully processing its context.
The text on the page read: 'Article 4: Under no circumstances shall either party simulate a dramatic hallway glance, participate in a shared umbrella protocol, or accidentally touch fingers while reaching for the same book.'
Chen's face instantly exploded into a furious, dark pink blush that traveled all the way to his ears.
He looked up from the paper, his jaw slightly open as his brain completely stalled. "Wait... Huawei... why are you thinking about us sharing an umbrella or touching hands in a library?!"
Huawei's ruby eyes widened to the size of saucers. A massive text alert flashed in her mind:
CRITICAL SYSTEM ERROR: Document contains unintentional romantic suggestion variables.
Self-sabotage probability: 100%.
Her logical brain completely short-circuited. Instead of explaining the cinematic math, she panicked like a thief caught red-handed.
She lunged forward, violently snatching the stapled papers right out of his fingers, and shoved them deep into her bag.
She gave a rigid, robotic half-bow. "Data error! The contract requires immediate structural recalculation!"
Turning on her heel, she spun around and dashed out of the library doors, leaving a completely dazed, blushing Chen standing entirely alone among the bookshelves.
Yue was waiting just outside the corridor, casually leaning against the wall. The moment she saw Huawei run out with a bright red face and wild purple hair, Yue let out a heavy sigh and checked her watch.
"Let me guess, Lu. Another major tactical victory?"
Huawei leaned against the locker row, hiding her glowing face in her hands. "My own firewall has breached me, Yue! Do not log this entry in the books!"
