English translation of the Dutch verses on this page:
"'Your son lord Halewijn is dead
I have his head on my lap
His blood stains my apron red'

When she arrived at her father's gates
She blew the horn like a man

And when the father heard
He was gladdened that she had returned

They held a banquet
And the head was placed onto the table"

I do not know what it means to blow the horn like a man, but sure. I also did not realise 'voorschoot' meant apron, since this word is not used anymore. I assumed she just used another word for lap/belly.

For the castle I took inspiration from Beersel castle. The banquet scene is inspired by (of course) the Tres Riches Heures de Duc de Berry (although that manuscript was made much later than the era this is supposed to be set in). The wall tapestry however is supposed to be millefleur decoration. I also looked up illuminations depicting Salome and the head of John the baptist for inspiration, which was great fun and I highly recommend doing if you enjoy funny medieval illustrations.

And with that this little project is finished! I underestimated how well I would be able to fit a comic into my schedule. It would be better to avoid long-term projects for the time being, but I may do more short experiments in the meantime. And I would like to figure out why the uploaded file looks so bad on Tapas, even though the digital file looks fine on my laptop (even when I zoom in).
