EVELYN
The wind clawed at my throat. Perhaps trying to pierce through my skin and reach for my soul - or the scraps of what’s left of it. After all, not every soul was like mine. Not every soul had a decaying part, plagued by regrets and sins. Not as bad as mine, at least.
I was falling and falling and falling. Falling deep into the ocean of my regrets. Falling into a love story with someone who I thought was my everything. Falling to my knees before someone unworthy of my presence. Falling down the ladder for someone who didn’t deserve it. Falling, falling, falling and failing. Failing was the only thing you could do after that. Who knew that you could still fall after that? Except this time, it wasn’t the same type of fall.
It was death I was falling for.
Though somewhere in the depths of my rotten heart, lay fear of death. Could a soul, as cruel and brutal as mine, still know the meaning of that word? Fear? Did I have the right to claim that word as mine? Did I have any rights at all?
Maybe someday, in some other universe, if at all, I made some other decisions... maybe I could’ve lived on with rights. Maybe I could’ve fought back. Maybe I could’ve been a better person. Maybe. Just maybe.
If only I hadn’t chosen to fall.
If only I lived a better life.
If only I hadn’t been a devil spawn.
