EVELYN
My eyes were bloodshot red. I shook my head and looked up again. My eyes were red. The chill of the air conditioner was no longer in the bathroom to pierce my skin, yet I somehow still felt a strange tingle go through my back like a shiver. Even Fairbanks wasn’t as cold this time of the year. I was practically freezing.
The heels of my feet were sore. Just how long did I have to stand here for? I glanced and my occupied hands, still under the hand dryer only to realise all the water had evaporated centuries ago. Now my hands were experiencing a drought. Where the hell was my hand cream?
I pulled my arms away towards my bag sitting next to the sink, half wet. What the hell? Why was my bag wet? I took my bag and held it under the hand dryer, waiting for the water to vanish. My feet were sore from standing for so long. Just how long did I have to stand here for?
I slowly felt the weight of my bag get lighter and lighter and soon felt nothing. I looked at my hands and the bag was gone. It was now on the floor. The fuck was happening?
Picking up the bag, I felt the cold metal of the keychain graze my skin. There wasn’t even air conditioning, why in hell was it freezing? I looked at my hands and noticed I was a few shades paler than I normally am. Where the fuck did my hand cream go?
I opened the zipper of my bag and took out my purse. I needed my pills right now. This was getting too stressful. I took out the bottle and turned the lid, putting my purse and bag aside. I turned the lid and opened the bottle. The bottle opened and I turned over the lid. I opened the lid and turned over the bottle. Nothing. The fuck? Where were all my pills? I looked up towards the mirror.
There she was. So precious. So fragile. So beautiful. Now, she was ruined. Her skin was pale and lack of moisture or joy, her eyes had baggage underneath them, dark and unsettling like her past. And her eyes?
Her eyes were bloodshot red.
